Chapter 4:One's Destiny

A/N:Here is the 4th chapter that has been fixed. It has a lot of new dialogue after the letter stuff and an interesting story if I do say so myself. Which can help those who are wondering why Lin did what she did. I do not own Legend of Korra.

One day after Jinora had left the South Pole.

"Tenzin, have you seen Jinora lately. I can't find her anywhere." Pema asked one morning at the dinner table.

"I haven't seen her since we got here yesterday. I thought she was reading or sleeping in her room and didn't want to be disturbed. Her room's door is still locked." Tenzin replied worried.

"Yes ,but when I called her for breakfast she didn't answer... do you think something is wrong?"

"I am going to check on her immediately." The airbending master soon took off with a strong gust of wind following him.

With a racing heartbeat. The master of an airbender blasted open her door. To find an empty room.

"Ikki, Meelo come here this instant!" Both brother and sister air scootered in the building.

"Y...yes daddy." Ikki stuttered her brother stayed quiet.

"Where is Jinora!"

"I uh...we don't know."

"Ikki I am no lie detector ,but I can tell that you are lying. Without tha fact that you share a room with her." He crossed his arms ,waiting for the answer.

"N...no I am not." She replied bluntly standing her ground.

"Tell me where she is this instant!" Tenzin was trying very hard not to turn angry.

"I really don't know where she is ,butif found this under her pillow." The girl handed them a piece of paper.

"A letter?"

Dear Parents

You will be reading this letter. When you have figured out that I left or Ikki talked like a mad maniac. I have left the South Pole but don't worry I will be back in a week two at the most.

Please don't come after me. I can do this and I will see you when the time is right.

Jinora.

"What! She left! I have to go and get her!" Tenzin stated ,heading outside to fetch Oogi.

"Tenzin where are you going?" Katara asked from behind him.

"Jinora left and I have to go and get her...wherever she is." He replied rather irritated. Katara sighed "Tenzin. Jinora is smart and has a strong spirit. This is her journey to face alone."

"She is my daughter I have to go after her."

"Do you even know where she is?" Katara knew perfectly well of Jinora's doings and history. More than Tenzin even.

The master sighed in defeat. "No, but I can't leave my little girl to wander off alone." Tenzin turned to face his mother.

"Jinora she is very smart you know...and knows a lot more than you think..." The elderly woman handed him another un neatly written letter.

Dear Father

Looks like you are worried ,but don't worry. If it helps to calm you down. I am in Republic City. Let me do this on my own. I don't need any help with my quest. This is something I have to do on my own. Now you are probably worrying even more and wondering why I'm here. The truth will always come out so...

I went to go rescue Lin.

Your daughter.

P.S: I will be alright. I promise.

That last part partly helped. Tenzin. By the time he finished he was indeed worried. On the verge of hysteric, but he regained his composure...a little.

He looked up into the crystal clear, blue sky and said: "Be save."

Waking up in a dark and unwelcoming cell scared the airbender. She was confused and wasn't sure what or how it happened.

"Jinora! You ok kid?"

"I will be ok." She muttered. "What happened."

"Amon took you out with bloodbending. His supposed possession power."

With a flash, it all came rushing back to her. She remembers everything now.

"It hurt a lot and it still hurts."

"I know." Lin replied truly understanding how she felt. "I am sorry you had to go through that." She neared her daughter and hugged her. "I don't want you to feel pain like that again."

Jinora looked up at the earthbender. Lin's eyes were full of regret and sorrow. "I tried to save you, but I failed I'm sorry. I failed." She hid her face in the earthbender's embrace.

"No! You will never fail me. I failed you... " She trailed off, recalling the faint imaged of the past. "You left safety to rescue me. Attacking those Equalists with no fear even when you were outnumbered. You faced them head on... like an eathbender. I couldn't be happier or prouder of you, but an escape would be appreciated too. "She added a bit sarcastically. "Amon might have won that battle ,but you stood your ground...heck you are as much earthbender as an airbender could get! You put Amon in his place...and that." Lin cleared her throat. "That is much more than most kids your age are capable of. Don't wallow in self pity it will get you nowhere ,but you didn't fail me."

Lin's words weren't spoken as a mother, but it was sincere. The girl wrapped her arms around the Chief of Police, still unaware that her ribs were crushed. "Thanks mom. But I had a little help on the way." She added.

"Don't mention it...I will never get used being called...that you know. Now please let go of me. Last time you hugged me my ribs broke and it is not getting any better."

"You hugged me first."

The earthbender huffed at the statement. 'That's my daughter.'

Lin looked a bit weaker since last time they joined together. Her uniform was dented here and there ,blood coated it at the side of her stomach. Lin didn't look like she was hurting and wouldn't show it either.

"Are you ok?" The airbender asked concerned.

"I'll live." A awkward silence came between the two. It ended luckily. "You said you got help on your way here?"

"I was fighting an equalist, but he was too fast for me. There was someone telling me to wait and listen before striking. I think a spirit helped me." She confessed.

"Sounds like something my mother would say."

"Toph? She was a friend of grandpa Aang's. What was she like?" Jinora questioned.

The metalbender hesitated. "She was stubborn, strong, caring and sarcastic. Even though she was the first Chief of Police ignored most rules. In meetings she would still call Aang Twinkeltoes , Sokka Snoozels or the Firelord Sparky."

Jinora giggled. "Grandpa Aang was called Twinkeltoes?"

"Yes, and would do some strange things, when I wouldn't eat my vegetables or when babysitting us kids. There was of course not a second time. Her training methods were...different and somewhat questionable"

"I think daddy was afraid of her."

"That's no surprise. Uncle Aang , Zuko and aunt Katara and Mai warned them, to be careful around her." She said giving a faint smile, remembering the good old days. "Speaking of your father. What will happen when he find you nowhere to be seen?"

"I sent him a letter that I will be ok... six actually."

"Six?" Lin raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, one for when they figure out I am gone. Ikki will give them that one. Two is when he try to go after me. Gran Gran will give him that one. Three is attached to Oogi's horn when he ignore that one. Four is one saying not to worry and to say good night under their pillows. Five is a comforting letter. Meelo will give them when daddy is missing me.."

"Six...six is..." The pre teen trailed off.

"When you don't return and you are in prison." Lin cut her off looking her in the eyes. Jinora held her gaze. One most people would try to avoid. It was beautiful ,but almost deadly.

"I told him that I will be alright, but now...I'm a little scared."

"It's alright to be scared sometimes. We all get scared." Lin assured.

"Even you?" She asked in disbelief.

"Yes. Even me."

"I can't believe that."

Lin smirked. "Good."

"How are we going to escape?" She asked when another Equalists past their cell.

"We can use your airbending to escape."

"He hasn't take my bending away?"

"No, you will know if it is gone."

In a voice more of a whisper she said. "I saw what happened when someone loses your bending. I don't want that to happen to me." There was a faint trace of fear in her voice.

The Chief frowned. "I won't let that happen to you Jinora."

The airbender hold onto the Chief."...Promise?"

"That monster won't touch your bending." She stated, her eyes blazing with determination.

It wasn't long before the airbender drifted off to sleep once more, but disturbing imaged filled her mind. Her sleep wasn't a peaceful one. She opened her eyes. It was clearly late in the night.

The teen noticed that neither of them had moved and that she wasn't the only one awake. Lin's gaze didn't move from the cell door. "Jinora are you alright." She asked. "I can't sleep."The kid murmured.

"Well...try to. You need your rest."

"What about you?"

The earthbender's gaze softened when it landed on the worried on the girl. "Don't worry about me. I will be fine."

"Not if you don't sleep. You need it." She repeated previously spoken words. Lin couldn't help, but see herself recalling the airbender's words.

Heavily she sighed. "Fine."

When Jinora was under covers and Lin on her way to her own bed. She spoke: "Can you tell me a story?"

"It is in the middle of the night and you want me to tell you a story?"

Jinora nodded.

Lin sighed deeply. "You're lucky I don't have anything else to do. Alright." She agreed, seeing there really was no harm. "But I won't guarantee that it would be good." She sat in front of her daughter. After a bit of thought she spoke.

"A long time ago, long before the era of bending. People lived in a world full of grief and hatred, where Dark Spirits ruled the world."

Jinora sat up.

'Now you are going to send her into a world of nightmares.' Lin thought bitterly. "However there was a girl. Not very experienced or wise, seemingly ordinary to others. Who will change the fate of the world. The Spirits knew she would put an end to their dark reign."

Lin didn't once break eye contact with the airbender.

Jinora was always fascinated by the Spirits. Eagerly she listened further. The Chief smiled faintly at her daughter's eagerness. "What was she like?"

The metalbender looked at her before answering. "She was intelligent, eager to learn and had a strong spirit. The Spirits knew that she would save the world from darkness."
"How? She was just a normal girl."

"Every few years. A battle against humans and spirits would be fought, to determine the fate of the world. On that day. The Dark Spirits nearly destroyed the world, but someone wouldn't let that happen."

"It was the heroine!" Jinora exclaimed, now fully awake.

'So much for a bed time story.'

"Yes, she defeated the Dark Spirits."

"Is that even possible?"

Lin smiled faintly. "It is. She defeated them with the most powerful weapon of all. Light."

"Of course." Her eyes lit up.

"Jinora. No matter how hard things get or how hopeless a situation may seem to be. Remember to never give up. You can endure anything with the right heart. You are a Beifong." It was then when Lin finished her tale. "That heroine became the Spirit of Light."

"Raava." Jinora gasped.

"Yes."

All the previous excitement seemed to have worn the airbender out. Slowly she drifted off to a peaceful sleep.

"Goodnight Jinora."Lin whispered.

"Goodnight mom..."

A/N: How was my or Lin's take on Raava's origins? I think Lin had another meaning behind that story. No, Jinora is not the Light Spirit. Well what then? Read to find out...
