"Where were you, I was looking for you" Gili whimpered when she met Fay in class.
Fay felt the guilt jump into her as Gili scowled.
"Well, you see…" She thought about what to say, she would say the true, there was nothing wrong about it, she just met Spencer and talked to him, then it became a bit weird, with confessions she didn't expect and information she wasn't sure she wanted to know about. It was kind of complicated, besides, she didn't want to repeat the things Spencer told her in confidence."I-I was just…walking around, and kind of got lost"
"You got lost?" Gili gave her a skeptical look.
"Ye-yeah. I mean…I didn't get lost immediately, but when I got out of the teacher's room, I felt like walking around for a while, and then going with you guys, bu-but then I forgot where I was and when I found the classroom I decided to stay here and wait"
"Well, be more careful next time, you can't be on the hallways during break time, and please no more walking around alone, I don't want you to get lost again, okay?" Gili smiled brightly at her and Fay smiled back feeling a bit ashamed, maybe she'd tell Gili the truth later.
The day went by uneventful, so after classes Fay went to the library to do homework. It was quiet, even if it was usually a lonely place, that day it was specially empty, it was in fact the entire school that was practically deserted. Any other day there would be a lot of people after classes with club's activities and so. The silence actually made her a bit uncomfortable. It was funny how she liked to be alone but needed so bad the noises surrounding her, even if it was the breeze or the faint hum of conversations. But that day there weren't many of that quiet noises that used to keep her at peace, so she just decided to take out her iPod and listen to music, that would do too.
She didn't get it. Maybe she was just a hypocrite, or maybe she really needed all that people surrounding her to feel safe; just thinking about it made her feel sick. How could someone with such a lack of social skills as herself be so needy of people surrounding her, wasn't it contradictory? Wanting to feel the peace of being alone, but all that between a crowd of noises inquiring that human live was still there for her, waiting for her to feel like getting out of the bubble of her own world and go out to the real world.
Despite everything, she was okay with her life right now, having new friends to share great moments and she had time for herself too; that was it. She decided to stop thinking about it and went back to her books.
"How are you Mr. Pop?" She said on her way out, meeting with the librarian.
"Hi Fay, I'm great, a lot of work though. I'm taking the chance to organize everything around". He smiled while wiping the sweat off his forehead. "Oh, actually, I wanted to ask a favor from you Fay, only if you have free time this Saturday"
"Yes, what would it be?"
"Hmm, you see, I kind of have a date on Saturday" He said sheepishly, rubbing the nap of his neck; she could spot the faint blush on his checks which made her smile "and well…I can't let little Curt alone, so I wanted to ask you to take care of him for the night, I'd pay you of course"
"No problem at all Mr. Pop" She said cheerfully "Just let me know the place and hour and I'll be there"
"Thank you so much Fay, I wasn't sure if I could make it since the daycare doesn't work on Saturdays and you are perfect for it, I know I can trust you my little boy" He laughed joyfully and she could see the glee in his eyes.
It was already late at night and for some reason Fay wasn't sleepy at all. She decided to grab a snack when her cell phone ringtone reached from her room. It was half past midnight, who would be calling her at that hour? After taking a bag of marshmallows, she ran back to pick up her phone. It was Gili.
"Gili? What happened?" Fay said worried; it was really unusual for Gili to call her at night, let alone at midnight.
"Fay, I'm soo sorry for calling you this late, but I really need your help"
"Of course, did something happen to you?" She could feel the panic growing at the pit of her stomach.
"Well, this is embarrassing, but I couldn't understand math homework, then I fell asleep and when I woke up, it was midnight! And I didn't do a thing" Gili whined and Fay sighed and laughed in relieved. Math homework, what a horrible thing to happen to a high school student. "Faaay, don't laugh at me, look, it took me a lot a courage to call you this late and if I called Petunia she'd just hang up on me, you can't interrupt her sleep, y'know?"
"You tried calling Petunia first and she hang up on you, right?" Fay laughed harder at her.
"Yes…now stop it!" Gili admitted and laughed, she was blushing at the stupidity of the situation "You know what? Forget it; I can't believe I'm calling you this late"
"No, don't worry, I couldn't sleep anyway " Fay sat on her bed with the bag of marshmallows and her math notebook.
"Really? Thank you, thank you!" Gili chirped and Fay proceeded to make her best explaining through the phone. Half an hour passed and the homework was done, it wasn't that difficult, Gili was just panicking about it so her mind was completely blocked.
"Fay you're the best, I'll pay you with whatever you want"
"Don't worry, it was nothing, really" She took a small bite of the last marshmallow, wanting to make it last as long as possible.
"How could you say that, I definitely have to pay you in some way, it was really nice of you" Gili responded, she was truly embarrassed with Fay.
"Whatever you say..." Fay rolled her eyes and sighed, wondering if she should ask or not. "I have something to say."
"What is it?" Gili noticed the tone of her voice and felt intrigued. "You can tell me anything, okay?" She added, to reassure her friend.
"… I know. Well, the thing is…today, when I finished helping Mr. Mims I met with Spencer, so I didn't get lost or anything like that."
"I see" Gili uttered softly, while screaming inside. Every romantic scenario between Fay and Spencer already playing in her imagination. She could barely contain the excitement but tried hard to remain calm so Fay wouldn't cower and let out all the details. "And what happened?".
"I'm sorry I lied to you, I just didn't want to give the wrong idea" Fay laughed nervously.
"You mean you like him? Is that it? Did he tell you something? Did something happen? Tell me everything" She blurted out.
"See? You got it all wrong" Fay smiled at the fact that she'd predicted Gili's exact reaction.
"Really?" She asked, disappointed. "Then what happened? Surely nothing interesting since you already ruined it"
"I didn't ruin anything, it's not my fault that you let your imagination fly" She scolded. "And well, I wouldn't say that it's something interesting either, it was just something I got curious about" There was a pause but Gili just waited for Fay to talk.
"Hmm…I…we were just talking, and we met with Filip and Lannie. It was kind of awkward, I think Lannie doesn't like me, the way she stared at me was scary, but that wasn't the problem. Spencer told me he kind of liked her, but she just ran after Filip. He didn't say it in those words, but that's what I understood. He…he told me Filip hurt her once and he was really mad so he picked a fight with him…but that just ruined things with Lannie, he looked kind of pained about it, but said it was okay now, but I don't know…it just felt sad"
"Don't worry, everyone has heard rumors about it." Gili said. "But, you see, when we started our first year, Filip had already transferred here, during the end of their first year, everybody told us different stories about him, that he killed a kid, that he was a mercenary or some kind of hit man, that he was the son of some General from the army and he'd been raised as a killing machine…well, all sort of stupid things, you can't even imagine. Then, during their second year, all the thing between Spencer and Lannie happened, then we found out they were childhood friends but she didn't give him a second look when Filip arrived, I don't know why, she's just so dumb, I mean, Spencer is such a great guy. After that, nobody knows what happened with them, they just stopped talking to each other, he'd dated some girls, he's really popular and all but nothing serious, I think" She finished, and then realized something else "You aren't still freaked out about the Filip thing, are you? I mean, I don't like him at the least, he's a troublemaker, but you don't have to be scared if you don't bother him".
"No, th-that's not it, I mean, I was just wondering…if they're happy…I know is none of my business, but seeing how their lives changed in that way, and how can a person like him live in peace if he's always looking for troubles, it's kind of sad"
"Fay, you're too good, it's actually cute how you worry about everything and everyone, but don't overwork yourself with meaningless things like that, you know you're gonna find people in your live that aren't very lucky or that choose to live in a wrong way, but you have to understand that you can't change everyone's lives, you can make a difference of course, since you are a wonderful person, but you can't be concerned about everyone's problems"
"Yeah.. I know"
"Are you okay now?" Gili thought Fay didn't have to be bothered about that, but since she seemed like a person who could see through people easily maybe it was more difficult for her to ignore others' problems.
"Yes, are you okay now?" Fay laughed.
"Of course I am. Thanks to you. Ready to sleep?"
"I think so. See you tomorrow"
"Okay, have a good night" And with that, they hung up.
Fay went to bed thinking that Gili had got the wrong idea about her after all, she wasn't that kind person who worried about every human being, she was actually really selfish; she'd worry only about her and about the people that she loved. In fact, she didn't know where her curiosity about all of that had came from, it wasn't like her, she never showed that kind of interest in people she didn't know.
In the end, Fay didn't sleep well, so it was only expected that during classes she was basically on zombie mode. Her heavy eyelids closing themselves as she dozed in and out of consciousness, and Gili felt guilty all day saying it was her fault, although it hadn't really been because of her.
After a few hours she started to feel better but her head hurt badly, so instead of attending 5th period she asked the teacher to let her go to the infirmary for a pill. The nurse gave her a painkiller and told her it was probably the lack of sleep, so nothing to worry about but she should go straight home after classes and have some sleep, since there were people that presented not only headaches but also dizziness if they didn't sleep enough.
She was going back to the classroom fantasying about going straight to bed after classes when she heard a crash that made her lose track of her thoughts, it came from one of the classrooms, she peered for the little window on the door, and saw nothing, it was a laboratory room so maybe something had fallen and broken, she decided to go in and check.
It wasn't until she entered the room and let the door shut close after her, that she noticed the person sitting in one on the desks, glass shattered on the floor as if he'd just thrown everything off the table, his hands holding each side of his head which was down and his eyes were closed, but she knew there was no way he hadn't notice her with the noises of the door opening and closing.
Fay stood frozen, looking at Filip wide eyed, not knowing if it was okay to ask what had happened, or if she should just run away. Her body felt paralyzed, no matter what, she felt like she couldn't move.
His stare raised slowly until meeting her, deep green eyes burning into hers, with so much hatred that it seemed as if he wanted to tear her into pieces. She felt like crying, nobody had ever looked at her in that way, maybe he wanted to be alone and she interrupted him, but that still wouldn't justify his behavior.
But that wasn't all he had, the smirk that followed, appearing on his face was more much terrifying, wickedness was all she could see, and even then, she still wasn't able to move. He stood up making a loud noise while pushing the chair aside which made her jump, and that was enough for her to react, she started to walk backwards still looking at him until she bumped into a desk, both of them following each other's every movement. He reached her and she froze again.
He leaned down, placing his hands at each of her sides on the table, this made her hold her breath.
"It had to be you" He said sarcastically while studying her, her amber eyes still locked into his; there was no helping it when he looked at her.
"Wh-what?…le-let me go….please" She pleaded. Where was the nice guy? That was what she was afraid of, that dark side of him being his real self. It was real, after all, and what now…was he going to kill her, was it true? That he'd be able to kill her right there and then?
"You want me to let go? Why?" He leaned closer to her making her stiffen even more, his evil voice sending chills down her spine with every word.
"I…I'm scared" She whispered while tears blurred her gaze. He lifted one of his hands to touch her cheek, letting his thumb run down her face following the trace of glistening tears.
"Scared? That's a good thing, you know?" He gave her a little space while looking at his wet finger in a curious manner. She took the chance and shoved him aside to run away, but he was faster, his hand appeared over her shoulder and next thing she knew, he slammed her against the wall, pinning her and making her wince in pain.
"So you want to play, huh?" He was still smirking but she could tell he was angry now.
He liked the way she stared into his eyes as if she couldn't help it, he loved how he could see all her emotions in hers, she had big eyes that glowed beautifully in an hypnotic way.
Her heart was pounding, she could hear it thumping wildly in her ears. He leaned in as if to kiss her and she gasped while trying to figure out her escape, ignoring the way she felt mildly tempted to kiss a person she barely knew and who was basically forcing himself on her, passing over the fact that his breath had a nice scent of cinnamon mint that threatened with making her forget what was really happening. She turned her face, avoiding the contact between their lips, a gesture he obviously didn't appreciate as he forced her to look back at him with his hand pulling from her hair.
He kissed her roughly, and she squeezed her eyes shut, uselessly trying to push him back, but she was trapped against the wall. With a mix of alarm and something else that wasn't quite unpleasant, she felt his other hand running down her arm, grazing her skin and then graping around her waist to pull her closer. Fay had never experienced a moment like this, so wrong and so right at the same time.
But the instant of confusion died out quickly, his touch became really harsh and his hand was already at the hem of her skirt. Everything started to spin around, she didn't know if it was the lack of sleep, the panic or the fact that he wasn't letting her any space to breath, but she could feel she was going to faint at any time and she didn't want that to happen so she struggled with everything left in her until he stepped back.
She took the chance to push him and ran, but he didn't make any effort to stop her. She knew he wasn't chasing after her but she kept running, it was the only thing she could do, until reaching the girls' bathroom where she locked herself. She bent down, her hands resting on her knees while breathing heavily. She hadn't stopped crying, she couldn't believe what he had done, and millions of thoughts crossed her mind, not understanding how he could do something like that.
Even if she closed her eyes and tried to focus in something else all she could see were his eyes, all she could feel was his touch against her skin, making the pain in her chest grow.
Done! Please review and tell me what you think :3
It was a bit long don't you think? But usually the final scene is the first thing I come up with and then I have to write others things to get there, and I didn't want to let you with a cliffhanger either ^-^
