When night falls, he can't sleep.

He changes into a white tee and some sweats and lays across the double bed, arm once again thrown over his face. He can't help but wonder if he should have stopped Leah from leaving with the large man who she seemed to cower under. He should have offered to take her home himself, or at least offered her the bed while he took the couch for the night.

He wrestles with the thoughts in his head until he can no longer keep his eyes open.

When morning comes he showers quickly before heading into town. The drive is once again slow and he contemplates driving further south to LaPush reservation. It's only a fleeting thought though. He knows he can only step onto the Reservation with permission and being a Federal Agent he knows that his presence is not only unwelcome but unwarranted.

Pulling up at Newton's Olympic Outfitters he locks the car and strides inside. He heads straight for the foot wear section and eyes the different array and choice of colours. He scratches his ever growing facial hair shadow and frowns. He's never shopped for anyone else before especially a female, bar his abuela.

"Can I help you?" a blonde hair boy asks as he leans against a rack with a false sense of confidence.

Luke frowns deeper. "Yeah. I'm looking for boots. For a girl."

Mike - the name tag reads - nods. "So are we talking a daughter, or more girlfriend?"

"Just a - friend."

"Okay, well. These ones here are pretty good. Sturdy enough for hiking if she's into that. Sizes go from 5 to 11. How tall is she?"

"5'11, maybe 6 foot."

Mike gives him a smile. "We should probably go with a size ten then. Just to be safe."

Luke nods as he regards the boots. They're leather and have a warm lining inside. They are a solid make and don't seem to be easily broken.

"Great. I'll take these."

Mike grins and grabs a new box from the shelf, before wrapping it up.

.

After another quick stop at the grocery store Luke heads back to the cabin. He lets Roxy out to adventure on her own while he sits on the porch. He flips his phone open and checks his emails. He sighs as he reads an email from Garcia about logging paperwork electronically as they were no longer in the Stone Age, which he knows is directed at him. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate technology, it just - took a long time to get used to it.

He brushes off the email and heads inside to fix dinner. He doesn't bother with anything fancy but he does find himself drawn to the window. He wonders if the girl - Leah - made it home safely and it still eats at him that he hadn't done more to make sure she did.

He knows he won't sleep properly until he knows for sure.

With a sigh he grabs his keys.
