Ritsumeikan High = High school such as Seirin and Shuutoku

Meiko Junior High = Junior high such as Teikou

Read without thinking too much about the canon because I just realised I missed out something when devising the plot (whoops)

Year ?, 31st January

"Happy Birthday, Tetsuya!" The teal headed lady exclaimed, beaming at her son whose face was flushed due to the heartfelt blessings his parents or just from the heat of the candles.

The boy huffed and puffed at the twelve candles on his vanilla cake, blowing them out.

"Did you make a wish?" Kuroko's father asked.

Kuroko nodded, smiling shyly. This piped his father's interest and he inquired what his son's wish was.

" I can't tell you... Mom said that if you say the wish out loud, the wish will not be fulfilled ."

"Oh my... Did mummy say that?" The lady placed a hand on her cheek, contemplating. "Then Kuroko, what do you want as a present for your birthday?" She asked, hoping the boy would reveal his wish.

"Mom made this cake that is my favourite vanilla so I dont need anything else!" The boy flashed a gummy smile, melting his mother's heart.

"What present do you want from Dad then?"

The boy paused. A moment of silence proceeded as the boy was deep in thought.

The boy spoke softy, as if afraid to voice out his wish. "I ...want to... go to... Meiko Junior High...to play basketball with Ogiwara-kun."

"Meikou is a little far, isnt it?" Kuroko's father said, laughing nervously.

'Ogiwara?' Kuroko's mother pondered. 'Oh!' She smiled, recalling the promise she overheard where the two boys had made to play basketball together. Although Meikou was far, she was not going to let her only son have regrets at such a young age.

" Tetsuya, if you really want to, you can stay with your Aunt in that prefecture." Kuroko's mother said in a serious tone. "But you would have to take good care of yourself and come home every other weekend."

Kuroko brightened at the prospect, he nodded furiously, " Thank you Mom!"

His Dad let out a sigh of defeat, " With your Aunt, I suppose its fine." Kuroko beamed as his mother's face softened. She really hope that she would not regret this decision.

Seirin High gymnasium, Kaijou practice match

"I have faith in you guys, go show them the results of your training!" Riko rallied her team though it was as if her team had something missing because it does. Kuroko had not turned up for practice every since she received his resignation letter. Everybody in the team had asked around to gather information of the elusive tealhead but to no avail.

"Come on guys!" Riko slapped the back of Hyuuga, the loud sound shocking everyone out of their trance-like state.

"Seirin!"

Riko turned to see Kise Ryouta dash across the gymnasium to grab Kagami by his jersey.

"Kurokocchi! Why is Kurokocchi in another school?!" The blonde glared at Kagami and the Seirin team.

"What did you say?!" Kagami's eyes widened with shock.

"Kise-kun, you are mistaken. Kuroko left the club at his own accord, he did not tell us the reason. This comes as a surprise to us too." Riko quickly tried to calm the situation down.

Kise released Kagami slowly, doubtful. But Kurokocchi did indeed seem like he enjoyed his time when he was in Seirin.

"Kuroko is in Ritsumeikan," Kise explained.

"Ritsumeikan?" The whole of Seirin chorused.

"Not only Kuroko." Kasamatsu Yukio said from behind Kise.

"Senpai!"

"Mibuchi Reo and Hayama Kotaro are also in the team." Kasamastu continued. "They are led by someone by the name of Ogawara Shigehiro."

As Seirin erupted into a buzz about the two uncrowned kings and Kuroko, Kagami frowned. 'Ogawara Shigehiro, isn't he that childhood friend of Kuroko that stopped playing basketball after losing to Teikou?'

"Hey Kise, do you know Ogawara Shigehiro?" Kagami asked.

Kise pondered for a moment but shook his head. "I felt like I heard his name before but I don't think it was anything important."

It was during that period of time when the generation of miracles suddenly blossomed, Kagami recalled the series of events in Teikou that Kuroko had told him about during the Winter Cup. After just half a year after Kuroko joined the first string the Generation of Miracles peaked before essentially falling apart as a team.

"That is enough, the match is starting soon." Kasamatsu sighed, dragging the whining blonde back to Kaijou's side of the field.

Riko nodded, slapping her face. Kasamatsu was right, now was not the time for worrying about this new Ritsumeikan but rather the match before her.

Meiko Junior High

"The first years look pretty good this year,"mentions the third year Captain. The coach nodded, glancing at the nervous new members lined up neatly in a row. As the basketball club at Meiko was decent at best due to its poor record prior to the recruitment of the second years, it was not a popular club thus had only a handful of applicants. However one of them stood out more as the tealhead was a head shorter than the rest of the applicants, 160cm at most.

"Any first years with prior experience?"

Three, including the tealhead rose their hands, noted the coach. 'Better to let those who don't have the natural ability go,' thought the coach as he eyed the tealhead.

"Second years other than Mibuchi, Hayama and Eikichi gather. Split yourselves into two teams with those three first years and have a practice game."

"Yes, coach!"

The game quickly started with all three first years on the same team with two other seniors. The flow was in the senior team's favour as they secured the initial jump ball and scored a hoop. Though Ogawara and the other first year managed to steal the ball at times, they had trouble getting pass the defense. Kuroko though managing to keep up with the game was not of much help as it seemed that keeping up was all he could manage.

The coach let out a sigh. He did not want to destroy the hopes and dreams of anybody but the tealhead boy, Kuroko Tetsuya, was only going to be a liability if he joined and probably would only have a spot on the bench if he joined. Meiko was finally dealt a good hand with Mibuchi Reo, Hayama Kotaro and Eikichi Hayama being among the second years recruited, he was not going to let that go to waste. Coach tapped his pen against the clipboard, focused on the profile details of the first years, when a huge gasp erupted from the onlooking first years.

"Did you see that? It went across half the field!"

"Is it me, or is that teal haired guy getting faster?"

"That brunette too! After the game hit five minutes, it feels as if the aura around those two changed!"

Coach frowned. From what the first years were exclaiming, he narrowed his eyes, focused on Kuroko. There seemed to be a fire ablaze within his irises as he easily stole the ball and dribbled it pass 2 defenders to pass it to his brunette friend who swiftly scored a dunk. The coach was fazed. Kuroko's speed, agility and overall reflexes has increased exponentially from the start of the game. How was that even possible?

*Bzzz*

"Nice job, Tetsuya!" Ogawara grinned as the two friends shared a fist bump. Their team had won with a 9 point lead, though not much, was plenty for the coach. Especially against the second years that had advanced to semifinals in inter-middle last year, that had much more experience than the two first years.

"The two of you, is this your first team basketball game?" The coach asked, pointing to Ogawara and Kuroko.

The two glanced at each other. "We used to only play one-on-one with each other, though we would play with others in teams, it was not using any official rules." Ogawara explained sheepishly.

The coach nodded slowly. This meant that they beat the second-years based on athletic ability? Since they had clearly lacked experience. But regardless, it seems that he has been dealt good cards this year as well. Maybe enough to overthrow Teikou's throne.

Rakuzan High

"Nebuya, are you really certain of your choice?"

"Yea"

"So you are choosing Sei-chan instead of Tet-chan?"

"Rakuzan has better facilities than Ritsumeikan"

"That I cannot deny. Everything here is half the size compared to Rakuzan, other than the gymnasium. We would be facing each other very soon then, Nebuya. I really look forward to it."

"That and be careful of Ogawara, Reo."

"Of course. Goodbye."

*dooodooodooo*

Eikichi exited out of Reo's profile and cleared his chat and phone logs, just in case. He was dealing with Akashi Seijuuro afterall.
