Chapter Four

It was already only a few minutes until 8 o'clock and Draco was still in the Slytherin common room listening to Pansy drivel on about nothing. He checked the clock resting on the mantle above the fire for the fifth time. "Am I boring you?" Pansy raised an eyebrow questioningly and Draco look back at her.

"Yes." He said as a matter of fact, without hesitation, returning her look with a look of his own. It wasn't that he had to listen, more that it would look suspicious if he just left the common room when everyone he normally talked to was in there. She pouted,

"I was merely leaning towards the suggestion of the dance. People have always said we look good together." She took a step closer to him.

"I'm sure." He replied mockingly, looking her up and down with distaste.

She continued to close the gap until he could feel her breath on his cheek. She was almost pressed against him when he felt his cheeks flush slightly, but he stood his ground. She ran her lips so closed to his they almost touched. Her breath smelt so sweet, he could almost taste it. He felt himself fighting the urge to kiss her. Goosebumps arose on his arms. He draw his eyes away from her as he felt people watching. He hated public shows of affection and most of all he hated not being in control but he wasn't about to back down.

"You know it too, that we look good together.." She whispered into his ear, letting her lips brush his cheek and jawline.

"Too bad I already have a date." The words rolled out of his mouth before he could stop himself. Pansy almost jumped back, as if he had slapped her, a look of utter disgust across her features.

It was 8.20 and still no Malfoy. Perhaps he hadn't nodded, perhaps Harry had imagined it? He rubbed his hands together to fight off the cold. Maybe meeting outside in the cold wasn't such a good idea after all. He let out a sigh and watched his breath form a mist before him then slowly disappear into the cold night breeze. It was peaceful at this time outside next to the lake. Peaceful or not however, Harry thought, it was just too bloody cold! Harry turned slowly, admitting to himself that the Slytherin clearly wasn't coming, he decided to head back inside.

"I'm not sorry I'm late." Silver eyes caught the moonlight before him. He took a few steps back from the stranger as his eyes adjusted to the low light levels,

"Malfoy?" He questioned.

"Who else?" The Slytherin replied in a challenging tone. Harry sighed, he didn't like his tone and quite frankly he couldn't be bothered with if he had only come for an argument.

"Drop the attitude Malfoy, I think we've established we don't need to communicate like that anymore." Harry sighed, he wasn't in the mood for attitude. He was beginning to lean towards expecting what he had seen between Malfoy and Snape really was what he thought it was, he had had far too long to dwell on it without an explanation.

"Like what?!" The blond raised an eyebrow, not having appreciated being spoken down to.

"Oh, I don't know, like an arrogant child who can't say anything nice to anyone. Like someone who only ever has something vile to say!" Harry felt his frustration over all confusion spill into anger.

"Well at least I know where I stand now." Draco spat in return, giving a disgusted look.

"Where you stand? In front of Snape I shouldn't wonder, probably bent over a desk!" Harry screamed before he could stop himself. He didn't know why but the thought made him so angry. Before he had chance to take a breath after screaming he felt Draco's cold hand slap him hard across the side of his face. It was with so much force he almost fell over. He fell instantly silent.

Draco stood stronger than the other boy, panting. He felt his hand tingling after coming into contact with Harry's face so hard. He had shocked himself. He hadn't meant to and it was as if he had done it without realising. Harry looked shocked, almost scared, stunned into silence. Before thinking, Draco found himself pushing his lips hard against Harry's. He still had his hand to his own face and stood in continued shock. Suddenly, time seemed to catch up with him and as quickly as everything had led up to this point, Harry pushed Draco off with such force that the blond fell to the floor.

"What the FUCK is the matter with you Malfoy!?" Harry bellowed before roughly wiping his mouth on his sleeve in disgust. He turned on his heel and marched back to castle without waiting for a reply.

"I don't know.." Draco mumbled in a tiny voice, watching Harry almost out of sight. He buried his head in his hands and whimpered, "I really don't know."
