Chapter Four

Emilie shut the doors of her bedroom. She then flopped onto her bed. Emilie sighed heavily. She was frustrated. Emilie has taken the responsibilities as queen for almost 3 weeks now. Emilie felt like she was under a lot of pressure being the queen. All she wanted now was to have a break from her responsibilities just for a little while. A small adventure, somewhere, anywhere. Emilie looked down at her bed. An idea popped into her head. Emilie rose from her bed to the balcony. Looking down, it was about 12 feet up. Heading back to her bed, Emilie stripped the bed from the sheets and blanket. Tying the blanket and sheets together, excitement slowly started to fill Emilie. Emilie finished tying the blankets and sheets together. She then looked under her bed to get her emergency bag. The continents inside of the bag were some food that could last for a long time, a fresh pair of clothes, matches, a dead flashlight, a dagger, and some small medical supplies. Emilie put the bag around her shoulder and tied one end of her makeshift rope to a nearby table leg. The other end of the makeshift rope was thrown over the balcony. Emilie looked behind her. Was she nervous? Yes. Was she excited? Yes. Scared? Yes. But Emilie was going on a small adventure. She was only taking her emergency bag just in case something happens. Slowly, Emilie made her way down her rope. At last, Emilie reached the ground below her balcony. Her small adventure had just begun.

Emilie quickly and quietly made her way out of the castle grounds. She was in the forest now. Taking out her box of matches, Emilie lit one match as a small source of light. Emilie didn't know where she was going, or where to go, so she just chose a direction and went with it. As she was walking, Emilie saw light up ahead. "That must be a house or a village" Emilie thought. As she came closer, she noticed two figures talking. Making herself as quite as she could, Emilie started to eavesdrop on the conversation while hiding behind a nearby tree.

"You are such a stupid girl!" A rough voice said. "I'm sorry! Please, don't hurt me!" Cried a voice. The voice belonged to a girl, around the same age as Emilie, who was only 11. "You broke one of my most prized positions, and took some of MY money to give it to a to a filthy beggar woman? You have to pay for what you have done." The male voice said. "No! Please!" Pleaded the girl. Not thinking of her actions and filled with rage, Emilie came out her hiding place to protect the girl. Standing right in front of the girl, Emilie said through gritted teeth, "Stop. Right. Now." The look on the man's face went from anger to baffle to anger again. "What are you going about me if I don't stop?" The man asked, reaching for the knife around his belt. "You don't want to know, monsieur. Now, I command that you leave this girl alone or else." The man chuckled at what Emilie said. "You're trying to command me, little girl? That is so cute. You should leave now, before I beat both of you." The girl behind Emilie was wanting to leave, but her les wouldn't move. Half of the girl wanted to leave, to run away from here, but the other half wanted to see what would happen.

Emilie reached in her bag and took out her dagger. The man tensed, waiting for what Emilie would do. Emilie ran towards the man and managed to cut his arm. The man tried to stab her, but Emilie dodged. Emilie tried to stab the man, but missed. Emilie was about to charge towards the man, but she got a glimpse of the girl and stopped. Seeing his opportunity, the man pushed Emilie down. Emilie's dagger flew out of her hand and landed on the ground. Before Emilie could react, the man stabbed her twice in her side. Pain shot up Emilie's whole right side. Using all her strength, Emilie punched the man in his nose. The man dropped his knife to hold his nose with both hands.

The girl, who was just watching this fight, suddenly was able to move. She kicked the man hard in his side. The man fell to the ground. Walking up to him, the girl kicked him several times and punched him eight times. The girl then backed away from the man, just in case he got back up. The man wouldn't get up. He was unconscious. A wave of relief washed over the girl. Behind her, the girl heard a low moan. She looked behind her and saw the girl who defended her. She walked over to the girl's side and bent down.

"C-c-can you stand?" The girl asked stuttering. Emilie made a movement that looked like she was trying to stand. "Help me get up. Please." She said. Emilie extended her arm out for the girl to grab it. Slowly, the girl helped Emilie stand as high as she could without feeling more pain. "Please, help me get back to where I live. They will attend to me there." Emilie told the girl. The girls made their way in the direction Emilie motioned to go.
