Hey guys, sorry for the last chapter, it was kinda short. I know I have not updated in a long time. It is because I soemhow got logged out of my account and could not get back in. Anyways apologies aside, this chapter will be a lot longer. Have a good day people :3
Daisy sat still, her posture frozen from shock. Walugi paid no attention to her as he continued crying, he was too grief-stricken as it was. She could not have heard him right, wario...dead? Never! He was one of her best friends, this could not be. It had all come a bit too fast for her to comprehend. She had to find out who did it, when she does find the rightful murderer, she shall not hesitate to kill them. Players were usually able to respawn, but with them so far into the mushroom woods, she questioned if the respawn would be able to pick out the fact that poor Wario had died. She would be able to tell if she went to where Waluigi had seen him, but if he was truly...dead. She was not sure she wanted to see her lifeless friend, slumped against the supposed tree.
She felt a tear gather in the corner of her eye. No, this was not how her mother had raised her. If she was going to grief for her friend, then she needed Waluigi to take her too the tree. For all she knew, this could be a sick little game Waluigi was playing at. The purple prankster had a reputation for this kind'ov thing.
The water works were put on hold. She had to go check, surely Waluigi was mistaking his brother for a yellow bamboo shoot or something. It just all seemed a bit to cliché. They were stranded in a spooky forest with no signal, or as far as Peach's phone went. And absoloutly no way to get back home she just relised. They had a stupid map that made no sense.
Mabye once again this was all a prank, she thought to herself, still choking a bit on the tears she was holding back. She would not cry unless she knew he was dead for sure. Her thoughts and theories were inturrupted though, as she reminded herself of the crying Waluigi sitting next to her. She had duties to attend to.
She patted his back again soothingly, and stood up. "Waluigi, can you lead me to this tree or atleast explain the chain of events that lead up to you finding him there?" She asked quietly, respecting the fact that if his brother really had been murdererd, then he needed time. After a few more minutes of grieving, Waluigi wiped his eyes and stood up next to Daisy, seeming a little more calm, but she could see through his mask of expressions that he was still grieving inside. It was his twin brother afterall.
"Well...me and War woke up at the same time this morning due to toadettes nightmare. Wario said he was going for a walk and that I should join him..." waluigi stoped for a moment, trying to remember any important details he might have missed out. "Ummm, then I said that I could catch up and that he should go on ahead. Afterall Peach had said that it was good to get excersize for the upcoming activities and that she found walks in the morning helped you stay in shape. Anyway yesterday Birdo told us to not go to far out, incase anyone would get lost. So obviously, we sticked to that rule. He went out, five minutes later I followed the path he had shown me the day before. And then-there he was...I could not believe it, I ran back as quick as I could...I still don't believe what I saw and I am afraid I am not going back there Daisy...but I can tell you that the entrance to the path is just behind out tent." He breathed out a sigh of relief. As if he had been holding that in for a while, his cheecks still had stray tears rolling down them. Daisy pondered over wether she should leave him alone to mourn for a bit or if she should stay to comfort him, afterall if there was a murderer than they could be in the woods just waiting for her. She shuddered at the thought of a knife against her neck. She hoped the murderer had used a gun, that way it was a quicker death.
In the end she told Waluigi too keep hush about it until tonight, then they could tell the whole group together. If they told them now the group could get into a panic and run, their map was useless so they would not be able to find their way back to camp. Stuck outside in the woods, alone with a murderer. The thought would send shivers down anybody's spine.
But if she was going out there, she needed backup. Somebody she trusted like a sister.
Peach.
Daisy crept out of the tent and zipped it back up, she scanned the area to make sure nobody had heard Waluigi's sobbing. Great, the majority of the campers were just sitting around Mario and Peach, idolising the couple and their cute ways. She held back a giggle as she saw Luigi rolling his eyes. This would not work with so much public attention she realised, she needed Peach alone.
Suddenly Toadatheen motioned for the sarasaland princess to come over to join them. She hesitated at first, but then made her way slowly over to the rest of the group. Everyone was hustled around the burning embers of the campfire, laughing with merryment or rejoicing how wonderful the trip was going, despite the fact that they were completely lost. However she noticed Toadatheen with Peach's phone. Probably trying to get signal, Daisy thought. It honestly surprised her how many people did not care about home, it may be that they never see Peach's castle again or the mushroom kingdom. She did not care much about sarasaland anymore. Her father refused to give up his rule, until he had a son. This hurt Daisy and she and her father rarely got on after the problem was adressed. Best not to think of it now.
"Hey...Peach...can I have a word with you?" She asked her friend politely, faking a joyful smile. Peach snapped her head upwards, looking confused and a hint of worry was noticeable on her now creased face. Her blue eyes narrowed into small slits, seemingly out of suspicion. Gosh Peach knew her well, a bit too well. "Sure...would you mind telling me what it is about?" She asked...boy she had no idea what she was in for next. Daisy saw everyone turn to her expectently, waiting for some fresh gossip to talk about. Ignoring it and pushing it aside, she clasped Peach's small hand in her own. Dragging her friend away from the rest of the group. The smoke from the fire had gone up her nose, it would have begun to burn her throat if she had stayed near it any longer.
"Hey...let go! Dais, tell me what is on your mind? Your acting so strange all of a sudden." The pink princess managed to yank her hand free, turning to her friend angrily. Daisy stopped dead in her tracks. It was not because of Peach, but of something else, or should she say someone? There, coming out from the woods and into the camp, was Birdo. She had gardening gloves on and was holding a trove. Daisy watched curiously as Birdo slipped off into the girls tent. Glancing around her before entering it...as if she wanted nobody to notice her.
"Hey! Earth to Daisy. Girl, I am worried about you. At first I thought it might be something up was between you and weeg, mabye you had a fight. But alas, no princess of proper etiquette would drag another girl by the arm and then go off into a land of her own. This is just, rude and improper." With that said, Peach gave a sigh and frowned arching her back a bit as she did.
Daisy was annoyed. Could Peach not tell her friend was worried out of her mind. "Look, Peach you have no idea what is goung on around here. One of us! I have not figured out who yet, is a killer. Unfortunately, I have been trusted with the task of going into the woods behind are tent to find Wario. Apparently Waluigi...saw some things. Please, I know it sounds crazy and ludicrous. But you have to believe me!" After she watched as Peach's frown turned into mouth-agaped expression of shock. Her outstretched hand began to tremble, as she prosesed what she had just heard. Daisy watched her friend go through the same motions she had gone through. She clamed down to the level where she could speak.
"Okay...Let's go find ourselves a Wario." She heard her friend gulp nervously.
The two joined hands as they made their way behind the purple and yellow tent. The bracken seemed to open up to a small cleared path. It had leaves on it's floor and was constantly surrounded by nettles on either side of the track. The girls made it through, occasionally scratching their skin against the thorns and brambles. The only sounds were some distant bird calls, and the soft plodding of Peach's walking boots as they treked on the uneven ground.
Suddenly, there he was...
They came to a stand-still. Daisy felt like bursting into tears.
There in the middle of the clearing, was a large tree. It looked like a oak. At it's roots and base lay Wario. He had his arms out wide, almost as if he was about to hug someone. His eye lids were shut and his mouth closed in a peaceful way, it looked like a small smile. Daisy could defiantly see the wound. Across Warios chest was a big gnash. It looked like a knife had striked him from his left shoulder down to his right hip. It was hard to ignore the red liquid, soking his once-yellow clothes. She did not want to think about it.
Daisy brought Peach into a tight hug. The girls rapped their arms around one another, blocking out the horrible visions they were encountering. "Im so sorry I brought you along...Peach." Daisy sobbed into her friends shoulders. Peach hushed her, patting her back gently. "It is not your fault hon. Look, no matter what. This murderer is not going to lay their horrible hands on you while I am here. I will make sure of it!" Daisy could feel Peach also shaking, probably holding back the tears.
Wario would be remembered.
No matter what.
'This will be fun!' The murderer thought to themself. "Great fun..." They held their hopes up. Hopefully nobody found out who they were. Afterall the poor souls had no way of going home.
No way at all.
