The door was broken off its hinges, showing only the silhouette of a large half-giant, who scared the Dursleys into the corner. Vernon was trying to aim his shotgun at him, but kept dropping it. With each of the Dursleys cowering behind each other, the half-giant slowly crept into the room, taking in his surroundings. He had a large head of shaggy hair and a beard to match. "Sorry about that," the half-giant said, putting the door back. He then sat on the couch, bending it into a U-bend shape.
"Who are you?" Vernon said, his voice cracking. Hagrid just ignored him and walk toward Harry. "
An' here's Harry!" he said smiling. "Yeh look just like yer dad, 'cept yer eyes. Yeh've got yer mom's eyes."
"I demand that you leave at once, you are breaking and entering!" said Vernon, mustering whatever courage he had left.
"Shut up, Dursley," the half-giant said, pulling the shot gun away from Vernon, bending it and throwing it away. "Anyway, still haven't introduced meself, Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. Now how about some tea," he continued, pulling out random objects from his giant coat until he had everything he needed for a small meal.
"You're from Hogwarts, right?" asked Harry.
"Right, so you ready to go - wait just need to do something," Hagrid said, jotting down a quick reply to Professor McGonagall. "Here you go," Hagrid said, handing Harry a box. "Might have sat on it but it still tastes the same I think." Harry opened it revealing the pink cake with green frosting.
"Thank you."
"No problem, now you know all about Hogwarts right?"
"Kind of," Harry replied.
"Kind of? What do you mean kind of?! " Hagrid said, glaring at the Dursleys.
"I had to put the pieces together, but I know that Hogwarts is a school for people like me... Wizards, right?"
"What? How do you know that ?! We swore when we took you in, all this magic rubbish would end," Uncle Vernon said, getting red in the face.
"Rubbish, he has the right to know the truth," Hagrid said, standing up and towering over Vernon who now looked like a mouse compared to Hagrid. "What else have you been lying about, Dursley?"
"How my parents died, they said they died in a car crash, but that's not true is it? They were murdered weren't they?" Harry demanded.
Hagrid sighed and sat down, sparing Vernon temporarily, who looked relived as the half-giant sat down. "Yes, Harry, it was a dark time for wizards. There was a war that divided us. And your parents died protecting what was right. Sorry you had to learn like this." Things kind of turned awkward then, and no one knew what to do, so Harry decided to break the tension.
"So how are we getting to Hogwarts?"
"No you listen to me, boy! You're going to the state school where you belong, not to some crackpot lunatics school!" Vernon said facing Harry, looking angrier than Harry had ever seen him.
"Never insult Hogwarts OR Albus Dumbledore!" Hagrid said, picking Vernon up and tossing him to the side of the room, aiming his umbrella at the Dursleys. The sight of Dudley eating Harry's birthday cake was the last straw. He then shot a bolt of magic at Dudley. And out came a pig tail. That left the Dursleys screaming at the sight of Dudley's new tail.
"You missed." said Harry, taking the umbrella and shooting at the other Dursleys into hysteria and running into the other room screaming their heads off.
"We should not have done that," Hagrid said with remorse.
"They did kind of deserved it, we better go before they come out."
"You sure, it still raining?"
"Yeah, the storm's about to end soon," Harry said.
"Okay, but first we have to go to Diagon Alley and Gringotts in London."
"Great, let's go," Harry said, getting his coat and whatever he had, while Hagrid restocked his jacket. After a while the storm eventually did end, and by sunrise an owl had delivered the morning paper to the hut in the middle of the ocean, while Hagrid explained wizard currency.
"Hey Hagrid do you know if my parents had a will?" Harry asked trying to get some information out of him.
"I'm not sure, probably Dumbledore knows. He had your trust vault key."
"Trust vault? What about my parents vault?"
"Well, I'm no expert but I think you get those vaults when you turn 17 or something like that."
"Okay, thanks." Great so Dumbledore doesn't even tell Hagrid much either.
As soon as they docked, they were constantly gawked at, but it hardly mattered. Harry felt like he was a kid again who wanted nothing more than to go to Diagon Alley and be a normal kid for now. Sadly, this was not the case. His head was still working through all the memories aligning themselves into his. Honestly, it made his head hurt at times. By the time they had arrived at the Leaky Cauldron it was early in the morning and many of the occupants were just sitting around and eating breakfast. "Morning Hagrid, didn't expect you to be here this early," Tom the barkeeper said, pouring himself a cup of tea.
"Well, young Harry here wanted to get an early start on buying his school supplies.," Hagrid responded.
"Bless my soul, it's Harry Potter."
Just then the small talk ended, making the pub go silent. Then Harry was passed around the pub shaking hands and saying "nice to meet you" with everyone there. He finally stopped when he did a full circle around the pub.
"Hey look who just came in. This is Professor Quirrell, he'll be your Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts," Hagrid said, chatting with the professor.
"Nice to meet you professor," Harry said forcing a smile.
"N-N-Nice t-to meet you, m-must g-get g-going h-have to g-get a b-book on v-vampires later, s-see y-you at s-school," stuttered Professor Quirrell, leaving in a hurry.
"He is a bit odd isn't he?"
"Yeah, he hasn't been the same since spending a year in the black forest. Something like that does things to you," Hagrid told him.
"OK, so now can we go to Diagon Alley?"
"Let's go," said Hagrid, leading the way to the backroom and opening the doorway to Diagon Alley.
"Welcome, Harry, to Diagon Alley," Hagrid said as the bricks opened up, revealing wizards crowding the streets shopping, talking or just enjoying the day. "First we go to the bank, do some shopping and you have to go back to your aunt and uncle's."
"Great," Harry mumbled under his breath. The walk to Gringotts was enjoyable. He had enjoyed seeing the old shops, from the Owl Emporium to the Quidditch store. Most of the shops had either been changed or removed after the war. After walking up the marble staircases of Gringotts, they walked into a large room with a lot of goblins weighing gold and other precious stones while recording them in ledgers. Each one looked serious about their work, not even paying attention to them. When they reached the end, Hagrid cleared his voice and said, "Mr. Harry Potter would like to make a withdrawal."
The goblin slowly looked up from his ledger and down on them from his large podium. "And does Mr. Harry Potter have his key?"
"Yeh, got here somewhere," Hagrid said, pulling out random objects from his coat onto the podium. "Here's the little devil," he exclaimed, finding a tiny key. "Also this too," Hagrid continued, giving the goblin a letter. "This is about you-know-what in vault you-know-which," he said in a hushed voice.
"Very well," the goblin said after reading the letter.
Harry thought the ride through the endless caverns was exhilarating, but could not say the same about Hagrid who was ready to faint as he stepped out the cart. After Hagrid got back on his feet, Griphook opened the door, releasing green smoke and letting whatever light come from the lamps glisten off the piles of gold, silver, and bronze. "All yours," smiled Hagrid. Harry then quickly filled up a pouch with enough money for his shopping. Hagrid was going on about each coin and how much of each coin went into each one.
"Vault 713, and please slowly," Hagrid said when Harry was done.
"One speed only," Griphook said with a mischievous smile. Hagrid groaned at this. After going through another roller coaster ride they had arrived at vault 713. "Stand back," Griphook commanded, then stroking the door until it melted. There it stood, the only thing in the vault, the Philosopher's Stone. Probably one of the most powerful magical objects next to the Deathly Hallows, wrapped up in paper and a string.
"Best not to mention this also, Harry," Hagrid said, picking the stone up and into his coat. Now it was time for some shopping and then, with any luck, meeting the Weasleys.
