Author's Note: This one was toying around my head for a while. I don't know if I'll do a sequel or not, but it could happen.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or anything related to it.
It was a typical Saturday night for Hermione Granger. She was currently watching the tube in her flat, cuddled on the couch with her part Kneazle creature. She had just flipped to a show that had been recommended to her (by Ginny, ironically enough), when her mobile rang. This startled Crookshanks, causing him to bolt out of her lap. She groaned while reaching for the object, massaging her stomach. Glancing at the unfamiliar number flashing across the screen, she flipped the mobile open.
"Hello?"
"H-how could you?"
"Excuse me?" she questioned, settling back into the couch cushions. "Who is this?"
"You…you are supposed to be sm-smart. Figure't out."
The voice did sound familiar, but was obviously intoxicated and somewhere that had loud music and lots of people. There was some muffled noises and a couple crashes before the voice came back on the line.
"HELLO?!"
She winced as the voice yelled at her. "Merlin, Malfoy, I'm still here."
"I knew you'd figure it out. You always figure things out."
"Well, you have yelled at me in that tone before-"
"You're s-so logical. Why don't you ever loosen up, Granger? I…I bet you haven't had a decent shag in ages."
She flushed as her eyes widened in fury. "Excuse me?"
"Do-don't get your knickers in a twist. Since Weasley, no guy has wanted to since…"
"Since when, Malfoy?" she snarled back, trying to mask the hurt in her voice.
"Cause I told those twits at the Ministry to stay away from you."
"If you are just calling to heckle me-"
"How could you?" His drunken voice tripped over the words. "You are so…so…"
"Logical?"
"Exactly! How did you know? Wait, it's Granger, so of course you would know. Are you sure you aren't psychic?"
"You should know, Malfoy, that I thought Divination was a load of rubbish," she replied but he continued on as if he didn't hear her.
"A-always logical. Always having to think things over, see both sides of everything! Always have to be right and have the last word. And you always shove it in people's faces."
"Merlin, I didn't know you felt this way," Hermione replied sarcastically, trying to mask how every insult made her feel like she were back at Hogwarts with no friends but her books.
"Always shove…shove it in people's face," he repeated, fading out a little. "H-how could you?"
She sighed heavily as he asked the original question again. "How could I what, Malfoy?"
"How could you make me fall in love with you?"
"W-what?"
"I…I'm in love with you, Granger, and it's all your fault."
She swore the world tilted on its axis for a few moments. Either that or she blacked out. Or someone jinxed. She pinched herself, grimacing when the pinch hurt. She glanced around her apartment and just found Crookshanks glaring at her from his position on the couch. Her heart was beating a mile a minute as a dull roaring began in her ears.
However, Malfoy wasn't done. "It's your fault that you're beautiful when you're angry. Do you know that I do it to you on purpose, get you riled up? I-I love it when you get so passionate about your work, your eyes light up. And they light up when you dive into a new book. Do you know you bite your bottom lip when you concentrate?" He paused for a moment, catching his breath. "It's just not fair, 'cause I know you wouldn't take me. I was a fair menace to you during school."
She was speechless. Her mind was completely blank. She was getting a love confession from Draco Malfoy. She thought that she caught him watching her once or twice. She did think that he was being nicer to her as well. Now that she actually thought about it, he was nicer. He teased her, yes, but it wasn't like the mocking he did when they were at Hogwarts. He seemed to genuinely want to be around her and enjoyed making conversations with her. The Malfoy name was cleared a couple years ago, in the honest way and he seemed to make an effort along with his mother, to keep the Malfoy name clean.
She was startled from her reverie when she heard some commotion in the background. "Malfoy, what are you doing?"
"Not sure if you believe me, so I'm going to tell the whole world!"
"What?"
The phone seemed to have been dropped but she could still hear him shouting, "I'm in love with Hermione Granger!"
More commotion until a familiar voice came on the mobile. "Hermione?"
"Harry? What the hell happened? What are you doing there?"
"Sorry, Hermione, I just tackled Draco off the table. He's unconscious now. Guess we gave him a little too much."
"Harry James Potter, you will explain everything to me right now. Starting with why you now refer to Malfoy as Draco." And so Harry did.
Apparently Malfoy and Harry worked in extremely close quarters at the Ministry and actually managed to hit it off. They wanted to keep it on the down low for a little while since Malfoy didn't want the wizarding world to think that he was just being friends with Harry to clear his name. They went to the Leaky Cauldron to celebrate finishing an extremely difficult mission, when apparently Malfoy got a hold of Harry 's mobile and called her. Harry kept apologizing for what happened, but Hermione didn't blame him. After they got off the phone (Hermione made sure that Harry delivered Malfoy back to his flat safely), Hermione padded to her kitchen and poured herself a glass of wine. She had a lot to think about.
