I planned to have this chapter up by my birthday, which passed over a month ago. Then, I planned to have this up last week. Again, it never happened. I'm very sorry. Welp, I am now in New York instead of Florida. HAI NEW YORKERS THAT ARE FANFICTION WRITERS! Anyways, here's Chapter 2!

EDIT: As you may have already guessed, what you are reading now is a re-edited version of the original chapter. While I don't have to worry as much about age differences and time lapses in this chapter, there are still some minor mistakes that could completely change the fic for better.

Korra POV

I woke up , my entire body on top of Mako's. Despite the fact that we've been doing this ever since Bolin got infected, fearful that a zombie could infect us if we weren't nearby, it was still weird for me. I mean, imagine always being in close proximity with someone for three straight years. It can get annoying, but after a while, I got used to it.

I sighed, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and taking in the familiar surroundings of the kitchen floor, which had one of my throwing knives thrown across the room as if to quickly disarm someone. 'Wait, what?' I thought.

'Mako and I fell asleep in the bedroom next to 'that one room'. Why are we sleeping on the kitchen floor? Why is that knife on the floor? I always keep the knives in the bedroom. And how come I'm sleeping on top of Mako?' As I rambled on in my head, I felt Mako stretching beneath me, his yawn turning into a gasp as his body tensed up. I quickly closed my eyes, something telling me that it would be better if he didn't know that I was already awake.

I felt myself being lifted up from the ground. Hopefully, he wouldn't be able to notice that my breathing patterns were different.

Not long afterwards, I was gently set down onto what felt like a bed. I felt Mako lay down next to me, adjusting me so that I was in what I'm guessing to be the original position I fell asleep in last night. It was then that Mako began speaking to me, not knowing that I was actually awake.

"Oh, Korra, why the fuck did you have to do that?" He sighed. "Huh?' "I mean," He continued. "You didn't exactly do it, but you may as well have." A pause. "I wish you would stop this. A year of attempting suicide in your sleep is enough." He stopped talking afterwards.

'Sleep-suicide? Is that even a real thing? Why hasn't he told me about this sooner? A year is a long time. If he weren't strong enough, assuming that he had to wrestle me down, I could've been dead already.'

I woke up 30 minutes later. The sun was shining through the windows, blinding me, momentarily. I could smell a faint, musky fire scent nearby. 'Mako.'

"Hey, Sleeping Beauty's finally awake." Mako spoke as I sat up and yawned. I slapped Mako across his face just as he sat up next to me. "Ow!" Mako rubbed his left cheek. "Why'd you do that for?" He asked.

"You deserved it." I simply stated. 'For not telling me any sooner about my sleep-suicide habits.'

I then got up and stretched , then made my way towards the kitchen, taking in the flaking paint in the hallways. I walked towards the pantry, the smooth wooden handle cool against my palm. I opened up the pantry and finally chose a can of pears after roughly skimming through every fading, pastel- looking can label. I went over to the table , where there was a cup on the table filled with plastic utensils, and grabbed two forks.

I found Mako back in 'that one room' again. His hair seemed a little disheveled, and he smelled distinctly of salty blood. I laughed silently. 'He must have tried another 'experiment', and it must have blown up again. Aww, how come I missed it? I miss out out on all of the fun.' I pouted at the last thought.

I looked over his shoulder to read what combinations he came up with for a possible cure for the infected. I set down the canned pears and forks, taking Mako's pencil from his loose grip, and began to write:

2 drops of infected blood
8 drops of human blood
1 piece of tree bark
1 rabbit pelt
5 tablespoons of whipped cream

Mako looked up at me. "Why the whipped cream?"

"Because we still have a lot." I replied. When we had found the cabin, there was so much whipped cream, one would wonder who exactly had last dwelled here.

We ate the canned pears in silence. I began to think about how Mako always used a bow and arrows , and how I always used throwing knives and daggers. 'Well, that's all because you suck.' The doubtful side of me said. 'Well, that's all about to change.' My determined self replied. "Hey, do you think you could help me brush up on my archery skills? I'll help you with throwing knives and daggers in return." I offered, ignoring the demon of doubt yelling in my head.

"Sure, but where would we practice?" He asked.

I grinned at this, grabbing his hand and pulling him with me. "Follow me."

I led him towards one of the tallest trees by the fence. I motioned for Mako to climb up with me after I had found the hidden hand and foot holds. After about 30 feet, we finally pulled ourselves onto an old, yet sturdy wooden platform. I looked around at the trees surrounding me, closing my eyes as I inhaled its sweet fragrance.

"Wow, it's so beautiful up here, I can see the whole town from over the fence." Mako exclaimed. I opened my eyes to find Mako standing next to me, gazing in admiration at the old town spread before us. "I found this place when I was scouting out for places to put traps. Plus, this place secluded, so we'll have a little more privacy. No wildlife below can interrupt us from up here." I told him..

Mako's eyes scanned the area, widening once he was satisfied with something I was probably going to find out soon. "Okay, you see that tree branch hanging loosely onto its limb?" He asked, handing me a bow and a quiver full of arrows while pointing towards where he was talking about. I followed his gaze, spotting the dangling branch, and nodded. "I want you to ready your bow and aim at it."

I did as he asked, making sure I had a firm grip on the bow. "Now, shoot at it."

After his last word, I let go of the arrow. I watched as it sailed into the tree next to it. Mako walked around me, inspecting me like a judge for a fashion show would. "I see the problem. You're a little timid, making your body scrunch up all weird like. Here, let me help you out." Mako then walked behind me, and placed his right hand on my shoulder and his left hand on the small of my back, forcing me to stand up straight. He then surprised me by reaching over and tangling his fingers in mine, moving my arms back a little bit. "See, if you stand up straight and pull back a little more, you now have more control, and with control, comes strength." Mako explained, releasing the arrow just as a bird flew by, knocking it into a branch. "See? Now you try it on your own."

I took a deep breath, then moved my arms into the position Mako had put them in earlier. I then released the arrow, which pinned the hanging branch to the tree trunk behind it. Feeling a little more confident in myself, I placed another arrow in my bow and shot the bird that Mako and I had hit earlier, in which before falling to it's death, was attempting to pluck the arrow out of it's feather.

"Nice one, Kor!"

"I did it! I can't believe I actually did it!" I exclaimed, jumping up and down like a fangirl who just met their cartoon crush.

"Whoa, calm down before you fall off and break my bow and arrows." Mako said, taking the bow and quiver of arrows away from me.

"Pshh, I wouldn't fall off, ad besides, you have plenty of bows and arrows back at the cabin." I pointed out. I wasn't joking when I say that he had so many that he somehow managed to make them all retractable so they could all fit inside of his backpack, whereas I just concealed my knives in my hunting jacket, belt loop, combat boots, you name it.

"Point taken, now, it's my turn."

I patted myself down, choosing a throwing knife that was strapped to my left bicep. "The goal here is to aim for my arrow, then throw the knife at it. The outcome should be a split arrow." Mako looked at me like it was the end of the world. "Oh relax, you have enough of those, as well. If you ever run out, you could easily make your own." I argued. He gulped, nodding his head i agreement. Mako then began to squint a little, and then drew his arm back all the way and threw the knife, which landed a few feet above the arrow. I immediately began to spot his flaws, as he did mine.

"I think we're both too used to using weapons of a different style. First of all, don't squint, it changes where your target is a little bit. Second, when you're throwing a knife, don't hold it by the handle, you hold it by the tip of the blade." I say, re-adjusting the hold on a new knife. "Also, swinging your arms loses your direct aim, you only need the flick of the wrist to give the knife enough strength to get it where you want it to go." I then began to show him the motion of my wrist, in which he began to mimic. After getting used to the motion, Mako flicked his wrist and let go of the knife, splitting the arrow in half as it came in contact with a thud. He then grabbed another throwing knife from my belt loop and threw it at another bird flying by, which also fell to its death.

"Well, it looks like we found ourselves lunch." Mako spoke, peering over the wooden platform comically.

"Maybe we should gather our weapons and head back to the cabin, now." I thought out loud, beginning to climb down. But just before my feet could find a foothold, Mako grabbed my arms and pulled me back onto the platform. He began to pull me closer to him, covering my mouth while backing up towards the tree trunk. I craned my neck to give him a questioning look. Mako pointed to the other side of the fence, taking a step closer so that I could see.

The scene that lay ahead of me terrified me as much as the nightmares I have daily. Just beyond the horizon, a faint t of what could only be a horde of people was visible. 'So, why is Mako so worried?' Then it hit me. Mako and I haven't seen or encountered so many humans in one spot since we first met each other. 'That could only mean one thing...'

"Zombies." I looked at Mako, who confirmed my belief with the grim nod of his head. "What do we do? We can't stay here, Mako, they'll eventually sense us. Plus, we'll eventually have to go back for more supplies!" I then began to get dizzy.

"Korra." Mako calmly said. "I'll run back to the cabin and grab everything we need while you go get the weapons and other stuff from the trees and birds. Meet me at the back fence." I nodded, splitting up with Mako.

After 10 minutes, I found Mako already waiting for me by the fence in the back of the woods. "You got everything?" I asked, handing him the arrows while climbing up the fence.

"Yeah, let's go." And with that, we hit the ground, running.

EDIT: That new phone I was talking about? I got it two years ago, and I'm about to get a new one. Shows how much time has passed, huh? Anyways, this will be the last re-edited chapter before I release the new one. I'm currently waiting on my bed sheets to dry so that I can go to sleep, so I'm passing the time to update this because I need to start updating on a regular basis.
