"Mellody," he whispered, leaning in to press his head to hers. Her breath caught in her throat and she backed into the wall. He pressed closer.
"We shouldn't… It's not allowed… someone could come in…" Her protests were feeble and she knew it. But what could she do? He heart was pounding and she felt like she was melting from that deep, brown gaze; a gaze that begged for knowledge. Those deep, soft, brown eyes that melted her soul…
"I don't care what the others think. Do you?" His voice was soft, and he leaned in closer. She stopped breathing. She leaned into him. Why fight? She didn't want to fight him. She couldn't care less if anyone walked in.
"No, I don't"
Knock, Knock, knock
Mellody groaned and rolled over, desperate to return to the dream. She glanced at her clock and Groaned. Midnight. She'd been asleep for a total of 30 minutes.
Mellody pulled the pillow over her head, willing the person at the door to go away. All was silent. She smiled sleepily and closed her eyes again.
Knock, Knock, Knock
Mellody muttered under her breath and struggled up. She reached for the box cutter she kept near her bed. No reason to pull out a gun, but better to be safe than sorry. If the past few months at the BAU had taught her anything, it was that nothing at the door after midnight could be a good thing. If the person on the other side of the door intended to hurt her, the box cutter would cause enough damage to stall the guy at the door while Mellody grabbed her gun. And if it was some drunken college student who was at the wrong door, she'd just tell him he was idiot and slam the door.
She walked through the living room to the door and looked through the peek hole. She gasped at what she saw.
The figure was turned, but Mellody could easily recognize the brown hair, the sweater-vest, the mismatched socks-
Mellody threw the door open. "Reid?"
Reid turned and looked at her. His face was flushed, he looked a little dumbstruck, and he was swaying from side to side. And then he fell forward.
"Reid!" she screeched. The box cutter flew out of her hand and she lurched forward to catch him. Grunting under his weight, Mellody slammed the front door shut with her foot and got Reid to the couch. He slumped down.
"Reid? Spencer, what's wrong?!"Mellody begged.
Reid made an odd noise, and it took her a moment to realize it was laughter.
"You called me Spencer. You never call me Spencer. Just Reid." He giggled. Mellody had leaned into him and was shocked at the non-Reid smell that surrounded him. The smell made her crinkle her nose, and she realized the cause of his behavior.
"Reid, a-"
"NO!"
"What?" Mellody jumped back at the outburst.
"Don't call me Reid! Call me Spencer."
Mellody shook her head, but said, "Spencer, your drunk."
"Am not," He mumbled. "I only had-"Reid paused, trying to add the numbers together. "I lost count." He told her sheepishly.
Mellody chuckled. "How did you get here, Spence? You didn't drive did you?" Mellody's wondered if He had crashed his car. Her First concern was for anyone on the street. And since he was fine, her second concern was for his gorgeous classic car.
"No, Morgan dropped me off. He said that I was too drunk to take care of myself."
Mellody's Phone rang at that moment. She grabbed it and looked at the caller ID. Morgan.
Walking into the kitchen, Mellody answered it. "Morgan, why the licking lizards is Reid at my house smelling like He just got out of a beer bath?!"
Morgan chuckled. "Good. He made it up there. I dropped him off inside your building, but I thought he might have passed out on the stairs."
"This is no joke! How much did he drink?"
"Just a couple of shots. Nothing too bad. Besides, I figured I was doing you a favor. Now you can ask him out, and if you make a total fool of yourself, He won't remember it tomorrow."
Mellody froze. She had forgotten.
The day before-
"Penny, there is no way I can tell him!" Mellody was storming around the office space, squeezing one of the stress toys Garcia kept around her computers.
"Why not!? I mean, you like Him! He might like you back!"
"Because!" Mellody was struggling to give Garcia a good excuse. "It's against work Policy."
"Kevin and I made it work."
"But he's Reid!"
"What does that mean?"
"It means- Oh I don't know! It means he's amazing and handsome and anyone in the world would be lucky to have someone with such an amazing and beautiful mind and soul."
"Wow…" Penny just stared at Mellody. "You have it bad, girlfriend."
Mellody shot a look of annoyance at her best friend. "Besides, I-"She paused, looking embarrassed. "I've never really asked anyone out. I've only been in one relationship in my life."
Garcia gasped, as though Mellody had just proclaimed that she kicked puppies for fun. "You've never asked anyone out? But what about Prom?"
"I went alone." Mellody sighed. "If I asked Reid out, I'd probably just make a fool of myself."
"You'll never no unless you try, Honey."
Mellody rolled her eyes and opened the door to leave. Or she tried. The moment the door opened, Derek Morgan tumbled into her.
"Morgan!" she gasped. "Were you listening?"
Present day.
Morgan laughed. "Yeah I heard everything."
"Morgan, I would sleep with one eye open, because the next time you fall asleep around be, your gonna wake to find that shiny bald head of yours Scribbled on in pink with sharpie!" Mellody hissed into the phone. Morgan just laughed and Hung up.
Mellody stared at the phone in disgust. "Derek Morgan, you are a Jerk."
Mellody thought through her options. Obviously, she could take Reid home. But judging by his state of intoxication, that wasn't the best option. She considered taking him to Morgan's apartment. That was a good idea, but Mellody didn't know where he lived. Sighing, she realized the only available option was for Reid to spend the night.
Mellody made her way to the spare bedroom next to her own. Her brother had left some sleeping pants here last time he had come to visit; with any luck they would fit Reid.
She made her way back to the living room, but was shocked to find no one there. "Spencer?"
Mellody heard a loud Thump from her bedroom. Rushing in there, she saw Spencer sprawled face first on the bed. Seeming to scene she was there, he turned his head to look at her.
"I tripped," He told her simply
Mellody laughed and set the pants down. "Looks like it." She held out a hand for him. He flopped over and accepted her hand. Together, they hauled Reid into a sitting position. Once he had his bearings, Mellody handed him the pants. "You're staying in my spare bed room tonight. These should fit you. Now go get changed. It's getting late."
"Yes, Mother," he grumbled, Stumbling to the bathroom.
10 minutes later, Mellody was seriously beginning to wonder if Reid had fallen into the toilet, when the bathroom door opened. Mellody hopped off her bed to show Reid the spare room, but once she caught a look of him, she almost fell over again.
Standing outside the bathroom door was a man Mellody barely recognized. His uncovered chest was something to marvel at. It wasn't muscular, but toned and smooth. His shoulders and arms were covered with a fine layer of muscle that made him look less lanky. He was just- amazing.
Reid smirked at Mellody's slacked Jaw. His eyes took on an entirely new emotion though. He seemed awe-struck.
Mellody shook her head, trying to clear it. This was Reid, she told herself. Reid, who was one of the best friends she ever had. But a small voice in the back of her mind also reminded her that this was Reid, the only guy she had met recently that could capture her attention just by being in the same room.
"Wow, Reid. I was beginning to think you'd flushed yourself down the toilet."
"Nope. I was just thinking." He walked closer to her. With each step he took, her heart pounded faster.
"About what?" He was a foot away from her now.
"About how I'm glad that you're not my mother."
How odd, Mellody thought. "Why? Would I make a horrible mother or something?"
"No but it would be weird if you were mother. If you were, then this would be really awkward."
Mellody didn't get a chance to ask what he meant. She didn't need to, because Reid leaned in slowly and pressed his lips to hers.
Mellody gasped into his mouth, and she forgot to move. But, slowly his lips drew a reaction out of her. Her arms moved to slide around his neck, and her fingers entwined in his brown locks. One of his hands cupped her face, and his other snaked around her waist pulling her close. They fell backwards on the bed.
Mellody giggled into his kiss and was now responding passionately. Her lungs began to cry out for air and Reid Pulled away. She made a noise of protest, but he silenced her once his lips began to trail down her neck. She gasped happily.
The Semi-sane part of her mind told her this had to stop. If things went on, the consequences would be disastrous. But she was unwilling to actually stop. It was only once he had trailed up and down her neck a few times and had finally began to kiss and nip along her collar bone that she attempted to stop things.
"Spencer," she gasped. "Spence, we have to stop."
"Why?" he murmured, his voice silky and smooth.
"Because, you're drunk as a skunk, and I-"Mellody froze. How was she supposed to say this? They say that the first thing you should do in a relationship is state the boundaries, but what if the Relationship starts with a heated make-out session. Or even more, if the people in the relationship don't even know what kind of relationship they are in? Or if there even is a Relationship?
Mellody struggled for a moment, then blurted out, "I've never gone too far before."
Well, it was awkward, but hopefully it got the point across.
It did. Spencer stopped and looked down at her. That gaze he gave her- it wasn't one Mellody would have thought would come from Reid. The smoldering gaze sent shivers down her spine and made her reconsider stopping.
"Ok," he said. He gave her a small smile and rolled off her. "No more for the night." He made a move to get up. Mellody felt a sharp pain stab her heart. Her hand flashed out and she grabbed his wrist. He looked back at her, not understanding.
"Could you, um, I mean-"Mellody struggled for the words. Why was this so hard?
Reid's gaze softened into melted chocolate and he leaned his face closer to hers. The alcohol smell was fading and now her just smelled like Reid, like warmth and coffee and books. It was a wonderful smell.
"Do you want me to stay in here?"
"Yes, please."
Reid smiled and lay down beside her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Alright"
Mellody smiled and reached down off her bed and flipped a switch. All at once, small, star, shaped dots lit up her ceiling, casting a soft glow on the bed. Reid looked at her.
She blushed. "I know you don't like the dark, and I kinda like sleeping under the stars."
Reid laughed, and pulled her tighter. Mellody smiled and curled herself into his chest, and drifted peacefully to sleep.
Mellody awoke the next morning to sunshine making the room glow. She smiled at reached behind her, hand searching. It came up empty.
Mellody sat up and glanced around the room. She was alone, the bed a mess around her. "Spencer?"
Crawling out of bed, she wrapped a thin fleece blanket around her shoulders, and wandered out of her room. When she opened her door, the delicious smell of fried eggs and bacon hit her full on. Her stomach Growled ravenously. Peeking into the kitchen she saw Reid, Looking perfect in the kitchen. He was still in the sleeping pants, no shirt covering his lean back. Mellody took the opportunity to study him. Her memory of the night before had painted a flawless image of him, and this morning he looked no difference. There were a few freckles trailing up his spine, interrupting the pale skin with small brown dots. Mellody had the sudden urge to go up to him and just trace her hand down his back.
But instead, she just said quietly, "I didn't know you could cook."
Spencer Jumped shocked at her noiseless approach. His hand smacked the handle of the pan that Mellody assumed held the cooking food. The Oil popped and a huge drop landed on Reid's Hand.
"OW!" he yelled grabbing his injured hand. "Ouch, ouch, darn it that hurts!"
Mellody jumped a little, but she went over and took his hand. She flipped on the water in the sink and, after adjusting the temperature, placed his hand in the cold running water. Spencer let out a hiss, half in pain, Half Relief, as the cool water numbed the pain.
"Let me get something for that," Mellody said, keeping her head. She walked into the bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet. Grabbing the gaze and Aloe Vera rub, she reached for a soft wash cloth and went back to Reid.
He was still there, his hand under the water. Mellody inspected the damage to his hand. It wasn't too bad. It would probably blister a little, but it was nothing to Horrible.
"Well, what do you think, Melly? Is my hand gonna make it? Am I gonna need an amputation?" Reid grinned at her, his teasing tone making her blush.
"Hmm, in my oh-so-humble opinion, we cut it close. But you might survive." She smiled up at him. She reached over to turn off the stove and took him to the living room. She sat him down and began to doctor his hand.
Slowly, an awkward silence fell. Mellody wasn't sure what to do. Things had never been awkward around Reid before. Things were always comfortable, relaxed. Now she couldn't help the little surge of fear that went through her. What if what had happened between them the night before was the cause of this awkwardness. They had fallen asleep in each other's arms. They had kissed. A lot. So, what happened now? Were they dating? Did Reid think it was just a drunken Make-out session? Mellody began to panic a little.
"Umm," Mellody said, hoping to fill the silence.
Reid chuckled nervously. "Yeah, I know. This a little…"
"Weird?" Mellody offered. Spencer Smiled at her.
"I was thinking awkward, but weird works too." He sighed. "I have no idea what to say."
Mellody began to fret just a little more. "Do-do you, um, ya know, regret last night?" she was bright red.
"What?!" Reid looked up, a little shocked. "No! No, of course I don't regret it! Not at all. I just think it's a little sad that I had to be slobbering drunk in order to tell you how I feel.
"Umm, you didn't really tell me. More like showed me."
"Really? Huh, I thought I'd been a little more straight forward."
"So, do you not remember last night very well?"
"I remember coming here. You looked like you thought I'd been in an accident, or that I'd been hurt. And I remember kissing you. But the words I said to you before I kissed you are a little fuzzy."
"You told me you were glad I wasn't your mother."
"Oh. Wow. Not very romantic, was I? Well in that case, let me tell you what I was planning on saying." He took one of her hands in his and placed his other hand on her cheek, tilting her face up towards him.
"Mellody, before I met you, life was bland. Life had no color, no warmth, and no spark. Then I saw you. You brought it all back. You brought back the light. I don't struggle to get out of bed anymore. Now, I get out of bed every day, just with the hopes of seeing your brilliant smile. With the hopes of saying something that would make you laugh." He laughed. "I really like you, Mell. More than I probably should." And he leaned down and kissed her softly.
When he broke away, he smiled at her. "Was that better?"
"Yeah, much better." Mellody giggled, and she pressed her lips to his. The sensation of kissing Reid was better than she remembered from last night. She felt a rush of contentment as Reid's lips moved passionately against her own.
They broke apart, both gasping. "You know," she said breathing heavily. "You're good at that."
"Kissing?"
"Well that and effectively turning my mind to mush."
"Well, if it helps, you do the same to me." Reid laughed and stood, planting a kiss to the top of her head. "So," he walked towards the kitchen. "Do you like fried eggs?"
"Love 'em" she replied. Mellody heard her phone ringing, but she couldn't remember where it was. She tossed around the pillows around, searching out the phone.
"Good, cause I made a big breakfast. Bacon, eggs, sausage, the whole tamale! And maybe afterwards, we could go out for a little bit. I know a really good book store that has a bunch of classic works. It's a tiny place, but it's like a hidden treasure cove!"
Mellody finally got her phone and pulled up the text message. She groaned.
"What's wrong?"
"As much as I'd love to, we just got called into work. There's a new case, and Hotch wants us there in an hour."
"Oh," Reid looked disappointed.
"But we still have time for breakfast."
Reid smiled at that, and then he looked down at himself. "Umm, do you think we can stop by my apartment? I need some a change of clothes."
"Aww you don't want to go to work like that? Mellody dropped her phone and she went and wrapped her arms around him. He grinned down at her.
"Well, not really, no. but I'll make you a deal. I'll go like this if you go like that." He flushed lightly at his own comment, but he was still looking at her with a grin on his face. "Though it might distract me a little."
Mellody glanced down at her outfit and blushed. She was still in her tight black camisole and a pair of black shorts. It was more revealing than anything she ever wore out in public.
"Fine. Give me 10 minutes and we'll leave." She reached up on tip toes and placed another kiss on his lips before hurrying off to the bedroom.
Mellody hurried out of her room, fully dressed in what she thought was a modest blouse and a nice pair of slacks. She thought she looked okay, but when she walked out Reid, who had put his cloths from the night before, glanced at her and his jaw dropped.
"What? Is there something on my shirt?" Mellody glanced down at herself again. But when she looked up, Reid was right in front of her. He had his hands on her waist and his lips on hers within a second. Mellody reacted instantaneously, wrapping her arms around his neck and running her hands through his hair.
After a few long, drawn out moments, he pulled away, gasping. "Sorry," he said shakily. "I didn't mean to do that. It's just-"Spencer shook his head. "I've wanted to kiss you like that since I met you. And now that I can… I don't know it's just so unbelievable."
Mellody smiled at him, then said, "how are we gonna do this?"
"What do you mean?"
"We can barely be in the same room without hanging all over each other. How in the world are we going to make this work at work?"
"We can do things the same way Morgan and Garcia do."
"Wait, what do you mean?"
"Yeah, you know. The way they seem to disappear from time to time, and how they're always together."
"No, wait. Are you saying Morgan and Penny are together?!"
"Yeah, you didn't know?"
"No! And I can't believe shedidn't tell me!"
"She didn't tell any of us. It was just pretty obvious."'
"Humph!" Mellody began to grumble. How had she not seen it? Then again, thinking back, she saw all the signs. All the times Garcia and Morgan just appeared out of nowhere, the way she would blush anytime Morgan entered a room. They were subtle, but tale-tell signs of what Mellody felt she completely missed.
"Umm, Melly? You're muttering to yourself."
"What?" Mellody looked up at Reid. Reid had a small grin on his face. "Oh shut up. I'm upset right now."
Reid chuckled and pulled Mellody close. He pressed his lips to her hair. "Come on. You can talk to Garcia about it once we get to work."
"Yeah! Let's go! She's got some questions to answer!" Mellody took his hand and dragged him to the door, Reid chuckling the whole way.
Reid and Mellody rushed into the Meeting room an hour later, Mellody Adjusting her ponytail, while Reid tugged his Purple scarf into place around his neck. They had finally made it to work but had gotten mildly distracted in the car. Mellody was still blushing and she pulled her hair back into the Ponytail that Ride had messed up when he ran his fingers through the strains.
Mellody sat down next to Garcia and, opening the folder in front of her, watched Spencer sit down next to Rossi. She couldn't help the smile that crossed her face as she watched him.
"Well, well, someone looks happy. I guess someone had fun last night."
Mellody scowled as Morgan waltzed in. His smirk dropped when he saw her. A Dumbstruck expression held his face, and then a huge grin lit up his face. Mellody heard Garcia giggle. "What?"
She felt a hand go on her shoulder. She turned and saw Garcie handing a small compact mirror. "Here, take look."
Mellody gazed at her friend and took the mirror. Looked at the reflection. Nothing out of the ordinary. Her hair wasn't too bad, and her make-up was ok. Nothing – wait. What was that? Mellody titled the mirror and gasped at what she saw. She dropped the mirror and covered her face with her hands.
Mellody felt cool, familiar hands on her shoulder.
"Melly? Are you ok?" Reid's sweet voice whispered. Mellody just shook her head. "What's wrong?" the worry in his voice almost mad her lift her head, but she was still too embarrassed.
"Reid, it seems our young Mellody has a distinct on her neck caused by excessive suction applied to the skin that wasn't there yesterday. In short," Mellody heard Morgan's hand slap down on Reid's shoulder. She also heard the laughter around her. "You gave her a hickey, pretty boy."
Reid went quite while everyone around them. Finally he said, "Mellody," in such a sweet, soft voice that Mellody had to raise her head. The look in those melting brown eyes made her smile. It was an unneeded apology, a comforting look, all mixed up into one soft tender gaze. He lifted his hands to his what scarf and attempted to remove it. Mellody suddenly thought of happened in the car and almost shrieked, "Reid, stop!" But it was too late. The scarf was off and there was a dark bruising on his neck, darker than her's had been.
The room was in an uproar. Garcia was giggling so hard she actually fell out of her chair. JJ and Prentiss were chuckling, and Rossi and Hotch shared a grin.
"Whoa!" Morgan was laughing like he'd just heard the best joke. "Who would have thought Mellody could be such a mink!"
Mellody saw Reid's face go bright red and he lowered his head. "Sorry, I made things worse." He mumbled.
Mellody glared at Morgan. "You didn't do anything wrong, Reid." She stood and stared a hole into
Morgan just laughed. "Aww is Mell- OW!" he screeched as Mellody reached up and grabbed Morgan's ear.
"Melly!" Reid stood and tried to follow, but Mellody turned and looked at him.
"Spence, just stay here. I really don't want you to hear anything that I'm about to say." She gave him a soft smile. Then she pushed Morgan out and shut the door.
Everyone glanced at each other and ran to the window. They watched Mellody talk slowly to Morgan. No one inside the meeting room was sure what she was saying, but judging by the way Morgan's expression went from Humor to confusion, and then confusion to horror, they were sure that they didn't want know. Mellody asked him something, and
Morgan nodded, looking sick. Then Mellody smiled a blinding grin at him and walked back into the room. By the time she was in, Hotch, Garcia, Reid, JJ, and Prentiss were back in their seats. Mellody glanced around the room and smiled when she saw Reid. She went and sat next him, and clasped his hand in hers. Morgan stumbled back into the room and collapsed into the chair next to Garcia.
"Derek, are you ok?" Garcia whispered.
Morgan shuddered in horror. "she- I-" he went silent. Mellody just grinned and pressed a quick kiss to Spencer's cheek.
