Hi all, sorry for the late update, was supposed to get this one out sooner than the rest, but life happens, Uni and what not. But here it is.

This is a Older Naruto fic. It is not a crossover, but some aspects of Mortal Kombat and Daredevil are involved. The prologue should give you an idea as to why

Trading Destiny

Kakashi and Naruto entered the small establishment whilst still reminiscing over the past.

"Hello, what could I get you?" asked the young lady behind the bar. She first looked at Kakashi, dressed in his full ANBU attire with his silver gravity defying hair protruding from the top of his head. She looked at Naruto next, dressed in his full black and maroon body suit, with his headband covering his eyes. She felt like she knew the stranger, not the ANBU, but couldn't recall how. Teuchi, the owner of the Ramen stall, looked up from his cooking to notice the ANBU and the young man before returning to his cooking.

As it was late in the afternoon, the stall was close to empty so the two found a seat easily.

"Pork Ramen for myself and a Miso Ramen for my colleague please" Spoke Kakashi. Hoping that it was still Naruto's favourite of all the ingredients. The young lade took her order and made herself scarce by disappearing into the back of the restaurant to wash some dishes.

"This place hasn't changed much." Naruto said. His voice was loud enough for Teuchi to hear and look up slightly.

"No it hasn't. It still is the best place to eat, though I barely come around much." Kakashi said. Looking at Naruto, he was slightly freaking out on Naruto's skill of perceiving where Kakashi was. He knew that Naruto was a prodigy; even if the term was thrown around a lot. But since Naruto was a kid, he showed true potential of being a great swordsman, better yet, a great Shinobi.

Naruto stopped 'looking' at Kakashi's general direction. He felt as if he was invading Kakashi's space.

"Here you go" spoke the young lady as she handed each their bowl of Ramen. Her entrance stopped all conversation and Naruto and Kakashi started eating with gusto. It was a comical situation for those observing. They were witnessing an ANBU eating with his mask still on, and a blind man, eating as if he could see.

After the meal, the two left the establishment and made their way towards a vacant training ground. Although it was unspoken, each wanted to test themselves against the other. Kakashi, so that he could get an accurate gauge on the progress of Naruto's training; and Naruto, so that he could get an idea of how strong he was compared to one of Konoha's greatest ANBU member.

They both stood facing each other in a ready stance. Naruto did not have his sword in hand, but stood with his left side facing Kakashi. Kakashi knew that it was pointless in revealing his Sharingan eye, so he didn't bother using it. As with Jiraiya, Naruto got the first move in by condensing the air around Kakashi and pulling him in his direction. Kakashi was aware, to some extent (thanks to Jiraiya), of Naruto's abilities, so knew what was happening.

Kakashi relaxed his body to fly as quickly as possible towards Naruto. At the last second, he pulled out a Kunai to attack Naruto. Just as he thrust forward though, his hand hit an invisible wall and almost broke because of the weight of his thrust and the strength of the invisible wall in front of him. Just as Kakashi recovered, he saw Naruto 'push' with his right hand. At that moment, Kakashi was sent backwards by the same invisible force that stopped his attacks. Kakashi knew in that instance that fighting Naruto at close combat was impossible.

Changing tactics, Kakashi started going through hand signals. Naruto, however, felt the change in Kakashi's chakra and decided to go on the offensive. He rushed towards Kakashi with Kunai in both hands. His strong affinity to wind helped propel Naruto faster than Kakashi could complete his hand signals.

The two Kunai slashed through Kakashi's flesh and buried itself into a piece of wood at the last second. Kakashi had disappeared from sight using a substitution Jutsu, and reappeared behind a tree. Completing his array of seals, Kakashi blew a huge ball of flame at Naruto. Naruto felt the fire filled chakra approach but stood still in the same spot.

Kakashi thought that Naruto didn't have enough time to dodge the flame-ball, and was about to intervene when he felt the need to dodge to the left and then to the right.

The ball of flame hit Naruto and caused a massive explosion. At that exact moment, Naruto reappeared on the other clearing with his sword drawn, and was swinging at the air. These swings released a slicing wind Jutsu which almost caught Kakashi off guard. Luckily enough, however, Kakashi dodged.

Just as Kakashi was about to fire some Shuriken at Naruto, he stood still in astonishment. Naruto's sword was millimetres from Kakashi's throat. It was too fast for Kakashi to see, but Naruto had disappeared and reappeared in the blink of an eye. The image of Kakashi however popped into smoke, with the ANBU captain eye-smiling slightly.

The Naruto that stood alone surrounded by the smoke shimmered as a strong breeze blew. The image also disappeared, as if it was joining the wind on a final journey.

Naruto and Kakashi stood back at their starting positions breathing slightly fast, but otherwise fine. Kakashi had his Kunai out whilst Naruto started sheathing his sword. Kakashi could not believe how strong Naruto truly was. It felt like only yesterday that he was babysitting the young red head. Naruto was surprised by Kakashi's speed and his reflexes. It was fast. Kakashi did not have his Sharingan eye revealed, and that could contribute to Kakashi's overall potential.

A twig snapping caused both Naruto and Kakashi to turn and look in the direction of the village. There in front of them, surrounded by ANBU, was the Sandaime Hokage. Kakashi knelt on the ground before his fearless leader. Naruto, however, merely placed his blade in on his hips. Making sure that it was close in case he needed to draw.

The Hokage approached the two ninja, a smile stretching on his face. "It is good to see the both of you here training." The Hokage spoke, looking from Kakashi to Naruto.

Naruto remained motionless, not letting any of his thoughts appear on his face. The Hokage didn't care too much of the unbidden rage seething through Naruto. "I want to talk to you for a moment Naruto." At the words of the Hokage, Kakashi arose and disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Naruto merely nodded his head, indicating that he was listening. "You have particular skills that are needed for the protection of Konoha." The Hokage spoke, walking past Naruto and heading into the dense forest. Naruto followed his lead, remaining a couple of paces behind the Hokage.

"Firstly, just based on your skills alone, I think you should be ranked as a Jounin." The Hokage lit his pipe after speaking these words. "Because of… your disability, it would be wise not to throw you in the deep end of the life of a ninja." Naruto slowed slightly, not liking what the Hokage had said.

"Instead, I would like for you to train with a team. The team will be comprised of Chunin, and they should give you some idea of how lead. After you get used of the team, I will place you in a team of Jounin. After the Jounin, you will be in a team of ANBU." The Hokage spoke, slowing slightly to take a look around the clearing.

"This will all come into effect after the completion of the Chunin exams." The Hokage continued. "Before your training, however, you will act as a sensei for one of the teams. The team does not have a sensei, but they were each recommended by the various areas where they work." Naruto was intrigued by what the Hokage said. His mind was already made up, that if Jiraiya went on missions, he'd accompany him. But now this fool of an old man wanted to dictate his life. This Naruto did not like.

"You will also be taking part in solo missions for Konoha." The Hokage spoke with finality. Naruto remained quiet. "Your new team is waiting at training ground 3. I expect you will be a good teacher." The Hokage stated, before disappearing.

Naruto continued walking along the forest path. The wind had picked up and the trees were being harassed by its gentle touch. At the centre, was an emotionless Naruto, calmly walking as if the wind had no effect on his being. Before he reached the road that will lead him to the village, the wind ceased, and all went back to normal.

'Foolish old men, think that they can dictate my future.' Was Naruto's last thought before he made his way to the centre of the village.

The Hokage was back at his desk, sitting across from his advisors.

"Do you think it wise to let Naruto have this type of freedom? What if he does not abide by the will of fire?" asked Danzo, slowly sipping his tea.

"I agree. This could prove useless if the boy does his own thing." Homura stated, looking at the Hokage with questioning eyes.

"I know this seems unorthodox, but I have a plan." The Hokage stated, smirking slightly before dismissing his council.

Naruto arrived at the ground a half an hour later. He had to get directions from a few ninja's before finding the ground. He knew they were Shinobi, based on the feel of them. Being with Konoha's number one spymaster helped him develop certain qualities that contributed to his overall skills. One of these was identifying people, whether they be citizens or Shinobi. Naruto also knew a thing or two about the going-ons in Konoha and its neighbouring countries.

"Hi sir are you lost." One of the Gennin asked Naruto.

"No, not yet." Naruto replied smirking. "I'm your new sensei for the Gennin exams." He spoke again, not wanting to beat around the bush. "First we are going to introduce ourselves, likes, dislikes, future ambition. Where is your third teammate." Naruto asked looking at the young Gennin who spoke first.

She was surprised when he looked directly at her, given that his eyes were covered with a headband. She thought that he could not see. "Well, we were supposed to meet him here."

"Do you at least know who he is? What is his name?" Naruto asked, feeling slightly agitated. He wondered why the Hokage would get him to be a sensei when he cannot 'see'. Naruto knew that the Hokage was up to something, he just didn't know what.

"I was asked to come here to meet my team, so that I could participate in the Chunin exams." The second Gennin spoke, gaining Naruto's attention. "I was not informed as to who I would meet, just that I was going to meet my team here."

"Well, since I don't know who the third member of the team is, we'll just have to wait." Naruto said before taking a seat. "Now tell me a little about each of you."

The two Gennin looked at each other, waiting to see who would go first. "My name is Shiho, I currently work in the cryptology department. I have been there since graduating from the academy." One of the Gennin spoke. She was dressed in Shinobi shorts with a white overcoat. Her face was framed by spiral glasses and a mop of blonde hair.

Naruto nodded, urging her to continue. "I like puzzles, always had a knack for solving things. I have always wanted to be a Shinobi since I was a child. I don't have many things that I dislike and I am uncertain as to what my future holds." Naruto nodded at this and gazed at the other Gennin.

Feeling slightly afraid of the way Naruto knew where she was, she started speaking. "My name is Sakura. I work in the hospital as a med-nin and have been on reserve to be on a Gennin squad. I like, liked a student at the academy, and I dislike mean and cruel people. My future ambition is…" Here the young Gennin grinned whilst a huge blush crept over her facial features.

Naruto didn't know how to respond to that, so he just sighed. 'Fangirls, I at least thought that they'd change over time, guess I was wrong.' Naruto thought.

"Okay, thank you. My name is Naruto." Here both Sakura and Shiho took a gasp of breath. Naruto heard it, and was slightly perturbed as to why they would both react in the same way. Naruto waited for an explanation but none came. So he continued his introduction.

"I have recently returned from a 12 year training trip with my sensei." Both Gennin shook their heads in the positive, forgetting that Naruto was blindfolded.

"I entered the village this morning and became your sensei until the end of the Chunin exams. I am currently looking for a place to stay"

"Why don't you stay at your parents old house?" Sakura blurted out, before covering her mouth, paling slightly from her brash outburst. She was going to apologise, before the Naruto in front of her disappeared. She was going to look around, before she felt a blade at her throat.

"How do you know who I am?" Naruto asked, leaking Killer Intent towards Sakura. Shiho was frozen in place by the fierce strength of his Killer Intent. She was starting to cold sweat.

"I-I-I'm s-so-ssorry." Sakura spoke, quivering slightly and on the verge of fainting. "I-I r-read about you-u in th-the hi-history of Ko-Konoha." She spoke again, tears falling from her eyes.

Naruto felt her heart beating rapidly and the words she spoke. He knew she was telling the truth, yet how could this Gennin figure out something that no other Shinobi could have done. He smirked slightly before schooling his features. "You." Naruto said looking into the direction of Shiho. "Why did you gasp?"

Shiho gulped before answering. "I told you I like puzzles. I remember a story of the Yondaime's son. The story stated that he died the night of…" Here she paused, eyes wide and chest tightening. Naruto had released a new assault of Killer Intent in her direction and she near fainted.

Naruto got up from his position behind Sakura. He sheathed his sword, but remained in a stance that welcomed a confrontation.

"Why are you both here and who actually asked you to compete." Naruto asked, stopping his Killer Intent completely so that both girls could answer without fainting or stuttering.

"The Hokage asked me to join this Chunin exams around lunchtime today. He asked that I be on a new team." Shiho spoke, feeling relieved that Naruto had stopped his Killer Intent. Naruto looked from Shiho to Sakura.

"I was asked by the Hokage if I wanted to become a Chunin. He said it would help with me getting my own income so that I could support myself." Naruto looked at her as if he was searching for the truth.

Naruto was still on edge when the purple headed ANBU appeared in front of him. "Uzumaki Naruto." She spoke, getting Naruto's full attention. "Here are the details of your first mission." She continued, whilst holding up a document and expecting him to take it.

Naruto remained in position, hand resting on his Katana. It was a long day for Naruto and his patience was running thin. "What does it say ANBU-san." Naruto spoke in a voice that meant he was tired of the games. He was angry at himself for unleashing on the two Gennin in front of him and being so occupied that he did not feel the presence of the ANBU until she was close. Any of these factors could have led to his death if he was not careful.

"It says that you are to participate in the Chunin exams with your new team. You are to make it to the finals and show everyone what you are capable of. It reads 'although you are a Jounin level Shinobi, you still have to earn that title and before you become a Jounin, you must become a Chunin.'" The ANBU stated before disappearing.

Naruto remained quiet for a second before slowly releasing the breath he didn't know he was holding.

"Now, where were we?" Naruto asked, scaring the girls out of their silent stupor.

"Hmmm, he still seems on edge." The Hokage spoke to himself after stopping the crystals power to spy on Naruto. He knew that Naruto was wary of him. Now he understood how much Naruto hated having to take orders from the Sandaime. He knew that this would get Naruto to always be wary of him, even if this was not his actual intention. 'Sometimes deception is the only way.' The Hokage thought, before busying himself with his paperwork.
