Summary: Natsu and Lucy go shopping at 11 pm. Modern AU
Four
Natsu opens his eyes. It took him minute for everything to become less fuzzy, but he got there.
He liftes his head from his pillow and looked around. The covers are on the floor and the curtains are closed. There's no light outside.
The desk in the corner is piled with unfinished exams from school, sketches, and random documents that they stole from the secretary.
Natsu rolles onto his back and sits up, scratching the back of his head and stretching. He lets out a yawn and noticed the clothes on the ground. He's gonna need to clean the room at some point. And that some point is in seven years.
Jumping out of bed, Natsu walks over to the window and opens the curtains. It's dark out and the moon's up. Turning around, Natsu leaves the bedroom and heads towards the kitchen.
When walking through the living room, he sees his girlfriend and roommate, Lucy, on the couch and playing Skyrim upside down. ''Really?'' Natsu questions as he raises an eyebrow.
''Yes,'' The blonde nods, not taking her eyes off the screen. ''Playing like this is like a whole new experience. By the way, good morning.''
''It's eleven pm.''
''Good morning.''
With a sigh, Natsu continues his journey to the kitchen. Swinging the door open to the fridge, he stares in horror. His face is pale. ''L-Lucy..''
''What?''
''There is no more food left.''
He is met with silence. Then, he hears a quiet whisper: ''Shit.''
Natsu slams the fridge door close and walks back to their bedroom. It's dark, so Natsu turns on the light. Immediately turning it off again because he feels as if he's got needles stabbing his eyes.
Dragging his feet towards the closet, he takes a black hoodie and puts it on.
He looks out the window again. His nap was long.
Natsu walks over to Lucy and throws an oversized red hoodie in her face. ''What the hell?'' She asked, sitting up correctly and pausing her game.
''Were going to Walmart.''
Walking in the store, the passing employees look at the couple with strange looks.
Who would blame them? Two young hooligans wearing hoodies and sweatpants while the other is wearing red pj bottoms walking in their building at eleven-thirty is odd.
''What are we gonna buy?'' Lucy asked, somewhat grumpy while they walked down an aisle.
Natsu had a mischevious glint in his eyes. ''Anything that we deem worthy for our food.''
''Our wallets' are gonna be pretty upset.''
''Thats sucks. Hey, look! Gingerbread cookies!'' Natsu picked up a plastic box full of treats and put it in the basket that he was carrying. Lucy rubbed her temples. ''Why do we need gingerbread cookies in the middle of summer?'' She asked curiously.
''Why do we call people donkeys?''
The blonde sighed and nodded. ''Good point. Let's get hot chocolate.'' She said and grabbed a container of cocoa powder.
After fifteen minutes, their basket was already filled.
''No.''
''Please, Lucy? Those chips are really good-!''
''Natsu, we already have five bags of chips.''
''Pleeeasseee?''
"No."
"God-fucking-damnit, Lucy." Natsu grumbled and put a large bag of chips back on it's shelf.
Lucy smirked. "My revenge for you interupting me while I was doing a very important something." She said. Natsu scowled.
"You're cheating on me with a in-game character."
"You're darn right I am."
Natsu sighed and continued walking towards the cashier. "I knew it." He said, handing them the money.
Lucy grabbed the two grey plastic bags and handed one to the pinkette.
"Yo- what if Hitler liked cake." Lucy raised an eyebrow. "What if he didn't like cake?" She questioned, throwing her bag in the backseat once they got to the car.
"No no no, I'm saying, what if he did? Maybe people could've bribed him with coffee cake." Natsu said, twisting his key and soon enough the engine roared to life.
Lucy thought for a minute, her hand reaching out to grab his while they talked.
"I'm thinking carrot cake."
"Carrot cake? I think Almond Fudge would go best. Sounds manly as fuck."
Lucy hummed in agreement. "Isn't there an octopus-flavoured ice cream?" She asked.
"I think so," The pinkette answerd shortly after.
"How cool would it be if an octopus lived in the Titanic? Like, it would hang out with it's octopus friends in one of the rooms and go out for a late night swim if they wanted." Lucy suddenly said, letting her head rest against the cold window.
"They could kill any intruders that would come near." Natsu suggested. One hand was one the wheel while the other was on the armrest, clutching Lucy's hand.
"Then two shark cops would come in and arrest one of his octopus friends and frame them for murder." Lucy added.
"The main octopus, Jerry, would help his friend escape and then they would all live at the bottom of the Mariana Trench."
"Would they even live?"
"If they were able to reach the Titanic, I guess." Natsu shrugged. "I'm dumb though."
"It's okay, your hamsters are just sleeping."
"They've been sleeping for ten years."
"When we get home, were watching Game if Thrones until three am while eating chips."
"Got it."
"Logan Paul got banned from YouTube are something, I heard."
"Really? Why?" Natsu asked, glancing at his girlfriend who was already half-asleep.
"A little while ago, I think- Logan was in China or whatever and when he was walking in a forest he saw a person hanging off a tree-"
"-Suicide?"
"Suicide." Lucy nodded in confirmation before continuing. "Apparently he was recording and laughing at it 'n shit. It was on the news, but I didn't pay any attention to it." The blonde shrugged.
"Damn," Was all Natsu said once they got to their apartment. They grabbed the bags and went inside, preparing for the movie.
Suddenly feeling affectionate, Natsu walked up behind Lucy and gave her a hug. He planted three kisses at the top of her head and mumbled, "Love you."
Lucy simply smiled. Morning fights for the shower, rampaging when the fridge was empty, interrupting her game of Skyrim just to go buy all of Walmart's food, she loved him.
"Love you too."
