Author's note: Hi guys, I'm back! See I told you I hadn't abandoned you. So here you go, another chapter.
XXOXX Miss AudreyBear.
Breakfast was a simple affair of toast and cereal. Toni regarded Steve carefully over her bowl of frosted flakes.
"So, what's the plan for today?" Toni asked. Steve jumped, he obviously had been lost deep in thought. Toni smirked a little, it was actually kind of cute.
What...not cute why would she think it was cute.
She hated Captain America, and he was not cute.
"I uh...I thought I'd do a little sight seeing..." stammered Steve. Toni nodded slowly.
"You ever been to New York cap'?" she asked. Steve shook his head. "Well I hope you have a great time, don't get offended if people honk or swear at you."
"Okay...what are you going to do today?"
Toni shrugged and took another bite of cereal.
"I guess I'll work in my workshop."
"What are you working on?"
"Stuff."
"What kind of stuff?"
"Secret stuff."
Steve chuckled a little and shook his head.
"Why don't you come with me."
"What?"
"You heard me."
"Like...a date?"
"Just between friends."
"We're not friends and I don't date seventy year old guys. I could try to hook you up at a nursing home if you want me to."
Steve coughed a little and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I didn't mean like a date, date I meant like a...like a date where you just have fun...and..."
"Yeah I know what you meant." Laughed Toni standing and carrying her cereal bowl over to the kitchen sink. "Jarvis, what's the weather gonna be like today?"
"It's going to be in the low eighties, sunny with low cloud coverage and zero percent chance of precipitation. Are you planning on going out today mam'?" Jarvis replied. Steve looked around wildly as if trying to see where the voice was coming from.
"Jarvis, didn't anyone ever tell you to mind your own business."
"You have said that before."
"Well it's good advice, you should take it."
"Who's Jarvis?" Steve asked. Toni rolled her eyes.
"Jarvis is an acronym, it stands for: Just A Rather Very Intelligent System. I programmed him to kind of run the place but I gave him to much personality and now he's really annoying."
"You have expressed great fondness for me in the past madam," Jarvis piped up sounding slightly offended.
"Yeah we the past is the past, this is the now," replied Toni. She started to walk away , heading for her bedroom.
"Be ready in twenty minutes and meet me out the front," she called over her shoulder. "Let's go see New York"
The two returned well after eleven o'clock that night. Steve carried two shopping bags full of souvenirs and was laughing loudly. Toni had a small, pleased smile on her face. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes were bright and shiny in a way they hardly ever were.
"That was fun," said Steve as he set down the bags on the couch. Toni nodded.
"It was-" Toni yawned loudly interrupting her sentence. "I especially liked the part where that pigeon pooped on your shoe."
Steve scowled.
"I still don't understand how that happened."
"Welcome- *yawn* to New York," replied Toni sleepily. She stretched and rubbed her eyes with tiny fists. It was an adorable picture, thought Steve fondly.
"Well then, I'm off to bed," said Toni. She gave Steve a small wave and then walked slowly away in the direction of her bedroom. " Night Capsicle."
Steve smiled fondly.
"Goodnight Toni."
"Why are you always writing?" asked Toni around a mouth full of popcorn. Auddy didn't respond, her fingers were moving at lighting fast speed, clicking away at the keyboard.
"Auddddddyyyy," moaned Toni throwing a handful of popcorn at Auddy. "Come back to the world of the living."
"Sorry," Auddy replied closing her laptop and setting it on the coffee table. "I'm at a really good part'a my story-"
"Yeah that's great now what movie do you want to watch?" Toni interrupted Auddy. " Indiana Jones or Star Wars?" Auddy thought for a moment.
"Star Wars..." said Auddy finally. She pushed her glasses farther up the bridge of her nose and shot Toni a smile. Auddy stood up from the couch and stretched, then walked over to the door.
"Where are you going?" Toni called.
"I'm just gonnago get a pop, I'llbe back in like five minutes tops."
Five minutes turned into ten minutes which turned into twenty minutes and Toni began to get worried. She checked her phone and saw that she had no new messages from Auddy. Worry coiled in her stomach until she couldn't take it anymore. Toni stood, slipped on a jacket and hurried outside. The vending machine was right by their dormitory and Toni and Auddy's shared room was on the bottom floor meaning it was very close. It should not take Auddy to get a pop and return.
Toni found Auddy lying in a pool of blood in an alley right next to their dormitory.
"AUDDY!" she shrieked kneeling down next to her best friend and pulling Auddy's head into her lap. "Oh my gosh Auddy!"
Auddy stirred and blinked open blurry eyes.
"Toni," she croaked. "It was Alissa and she...she had a guy with her! A big mean guy. He hit ma' head...I tried ta' punch him I really did but Alissa was holding ma'arms and I couldn't do anything!"
"Shhh shhh!" Toni whispered softly, "you're going to be alright but you need to tell me what they did to you."
"They hit me a bunch and than the guy pulled outa knife and he...stabbed me."
Toni whipped out her phone and dialed 9-1-1 as fast as she could.
"Hello? Please you've got to help me, my best friend's been stabbed and she's bleeding all over the place. Please, come quickly. Kirkwood Boarding school, New York 1196 Kirkwood row. Please come quickly."
Then Toni bent over Auddy and prayed. Prayed that the ambulance would come, prayed that Auddy would be okay.
