And then there were soccer practices.

Of course we were on different teams, but there was only one field, so we practiced together.

You never looked at me once. You talked to your friends, you talked to my friends, but you never talked to me. You just ignored me. (It was a surprising change of pace from the torturing in middle school—but I thought we had built up an actual friendship.)

And each time I saw you score a goal, or block a goal, or pour your water bottle all over yourself, I fell a little bit deeper.
