Sarah felt numb. She had known, she had prepared and even waited with a false sense of resignation. She had known that eventually Chuck would be eliminated for the sake of the country, for the safety of it's citizens. But seeing his blood on her hands, seeing that weak, desperate and scared look on his face had been awful. She had felt her heart stop for a beat. She had hesitated, stopped thinking for a few seconds as he had looked at her those eyes round with fear, desperate for her to help, for her make it go all away like she always did. Then it left her training making her snap back into the ugly reality that lay before her. Chuck had just been shot which meant that she had to make sure the bleeding had stopped.

Sarah kept replaying those moments, reviewing the horror and complete helplessness she had felt upon seeing Chuck dieing on the floor. Tears that she had kept at bay for so many months threatened to spill over. It had been such a long time that Sarah had openly admitted that she had feelings, not like all those times where it was just a smile or tear to fool or trick someone now it was real. Sarah wasn't quite sure when she had first started actually meaning the little smiles she sent Chucks way. She couldn't place the moment when seeing him happy made her truly happy. Now it was being all ripped away. She felt so stupid; she had promised Chuck she would take care of him. She had failed him and now she sat in front of his sister preparing to lie again. Ellie now sat on the couch in the living room crying, collapsed in an upheaval of emotion.

"Sarah what happened!?" Ellie sobbed her arms wrapped around herself as she attempted to control utter and complete fear and sorrow she was experiencing.

Sarah looked at Ellie her eyes barely showing the horrible inner turmoil. Sarah knew she should lie, she knew that she should tell Ellie it was a robbery gone wrong and that John had rushed over here when he had heard the gunshots. But for once Sarah ignored her training because Ellie deserved the truth, Chuck had deserved the truth but she had lied. So in a rush of overwhelming guilt worry and fear for Chuck Sarah told Ellie the truth.

"Casey shot him" She said quietly. Ellie's eyes widened immediately in shock and then a fierce anger enveloped her. But before Ellie could move Sarah started explaining.

"Casey shot Chuck because he has information that if gained by enemies to the government would lead to major wars and terrorist attacks." Again Ellie looked at her in shock but this time disbelief was also mixed in. Sarah looked at Ellie more anguish filling her up as the situation that Chuck was in fully dawned on her for the first time. Chuck didn't deserve this, he was the last person to deserve this.

"I-" her voice trembled "I knew that he was going to shoot him, but I just... I-" Sarah stopped talking her voice constricting as she thought about it. The tears that had threatened her all evening finally spilled out. She had known in a round about way, she had always known that Chuck would be killed... no murdered. And the thought of being even slightly guilty of the damage done to the computer nerd broke her in a way she had never though it could.

"I knew" she whispered to herself. An awful self-loathing filled her. Chuck had trusted her so fully, so complete. He had tried to make her smile had thrown himself in dangers way always believing in chivalry even though Sarah was a cold-blooded killer. He had loved her so completely and innocently. He had given her a relationship she had never though of being possible. And to think that this was how she repaid him. She was the one to sob now, folding into herself as the guilt tremored through her unhampered by her training. Ellie sat by looking on in slight astonishment and sympathy. She was still processing everything and right now it was just too much. She sat there dazed while Sarah cried. Sarah only cried for a minute maybe but to her it was a life time of tears. When she stopped she was ready to face Ellie.

"Your brother is an asset to the government." She said seriously. "But you and your husband aren't"

Sarah then thought up a quick fix to the problem that was now presenting itself.

"Ellie I know this must be really hard for you to process this all but if you want to keep your old life and see your brother Chuck again you need to leave with Devon now" Ellie was still in shock so she shook her head in agreement following suit as Sarah stood. Sarah stood up quickly wiping away the remaining tears so she could talk to her partner. She walked into the kitchen attaining both Devon's and John's attentions immediately. Without hesitation she looked at Devon and barked orders.

"Devon get Ellie and take her out now" Devon nodded and moved over to Ellie wrapping his arm around her.

"Go out the back way casually and go watch a movie or something don't come home for another four hours" The couple nodded and left the house. John looked at Sarah a question lingering in his eyes. Sarah pretended to ignore it as she bend down and began inspecting Chuck unnecessarily. Finally she looked up at her partner.

"Chuck deserves to have his family" She said her voice brooking an argument as she prepared for John to argue. He merely nodded his head and walked away muttering something about waiting for the special medical team. Sarah leaned down and gave a trembling smile to Chuck one hand instinctively stroking his hair and the other holding his hand. Chuck's eyes fluttered open and he looked up at Sarah. He smiled weakly for a few moments looking into Sarah's eyes as if trying to memorize them. His weak grip tightened in a loving squeeze. And then his eyes fluttered close and his grip weakened slightly. Sarah's smile faltered and her eyes filled with worry.

"Chuck?" He didn't answer. "Chuck?!" She said a little more strongly. He responded by squeezing her hand. They sat like this for several more minutes until the door burst open and around ten medical personnel piled into the room. Sarah let go of Chuck's hand and stepped out of the way of the doctors. Chuck's eyes immediately flew open searching for Sarah. When he found her he looked for affirmation, and with a small nod of her head he relaxed.

Chuck was exhausted. He had just wanted to lay there holding Sarah's hand so when she had let go suddenly he freaked out his eyes flying open searching for his lifeline. When he caught sight of her she smiled and gave a small nod. He relaxed, Sarah was there and everything was going to be ok. A doctor leaned down looking into Chuck's eyes.

"I need you to stay with me young man" He said. Chuck felt an all to familiar feeling as he felt a flash coming on. At the sound of his voice the man's file flashed before him, Chuck's breath hitched as he learned and extensive amount about him. All the while the man was saying positive things encouraging Chuck to live while the rest of the doctors attended to him.
