Chapter 4: Setting Things Right
"Dad, move, I have to go!"
"Go? Nonsense, you're about to be married."
"But the tiny girl and talking mice say she's the wrong one!"
Jaq, Gus and I decided that we should keep a close eye on the Prince; you know, just to make sure that nothing got in his way of saving Cinderella. It's funny, because as fate would have it, his father, the King, was the first to try and stop him
"Tiny girl?!" The King sputtered as the Prince stepped around him, "Talking mice?! Son!"
"And earlier I saw two bluebirds."
"Talking bluebirds?!"
"No, the bluebirds weren't talking. Look, Dad, I-"
"This is ridiculous!" The King shouted ferociously, "You agreed to marry the girl who fit the slipper. I was completely with you on that one!"
"And I will." The Prince stated simply.
The King looked surprised. "You will?"
"Just as soon as I find her."
His son began his trek down the staircase, but the King eventually got ahead of him again. "That is it, young man! I...I forbid you from taking another step down these stairs!"
The Prince glanced to his left where he spotted an open window and smiled. "Okay."
"Son!" The King cried as the Prince leaped over the frame, "Son, come back! Son!"
Meanwhile...
"It's not over yet!" Cinderella's stepmother was back in her room, clutching the curtains to her window in envy. When she saw that the Prince was boarding his horse, she became even more angry and furious. "He thinks he can ruin my plans? I think not!"
"Who?" Drizella asked.
"The Prince! He's gone after Cinderella!"
"What?!" Anastasia was appalled, "But I thought he loved me..."
At that moment a combination of banging and yelling from outside their door startled them. "Open up! Open up in the name of the King!"
Cinderella's stepmother turned to Anastasia, "You do want the Prince to love you, don't you?"
"Yes, more than anything!"
Her mother smiled and reached into her sleeve, revealing the wand, "Then do exactly as I say."
"Using magic on my son? The nerve!"
The King was both enraged and flabbergasted; enraged that someone had the gall to manipulate his son and flabbergasted by the fact that the mice and I had told him. When the King first saw us in the foyer he fainted naturally, but once he came to, he calmed himself long enough to listen. Shortly after the Prince returned to the castle with Cinderella and when they confirmed what we said was true, the King gave an order for Cinderella's step-family to be arrested.
"Your Majesty..." It was the Grand Duke, " We have gone over every inch of this castle, but it appears they have fled."
The King's right eyebrow twitched, "Then search my entire kingdom! I want them found and locked up immediately!"
The Grand Duke gulped and nodded.
"Son, I'm an old man and my heart can only take so much." The King expressed to the Prince with weary eyes, "Please, please, please tell me this is the girl you intend to marry."
The Prince sighed as he lovingly gazed at Cinderella who smiled back, "The stars are definitely shining brighter, Dad. Just like you said they would."
"Then what are we waiting for?!" I've never seen the King happier, "Fetch the florists! Bake an even bigger cake! The wedding is on tonight!"
Several Hours Later...
"Wow, Cinderella, you look great!"
The soon-to-be princess smiled at me and twirled around in her new, white dress. "You think so?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah!" Jaq and Gus chimed while adjusting the veil on her head. "Cinderelley look perfect!"
I found myself in a daydream from my spot on top of a mirror as I watched the mice double check 'Cinderelley's' attire. It was now past sunset and we were all back in that fancy room with the chestnut vanity, helping the bride prepare for her big day, I mean...uh...night. Anyway, with the ceremony delayed due to the change of fiancées, I was given enough time to let my inner thoughts surface. Although I hadn't known her for long, I felt like I had made a major difference in Cinderella's life and it was then that I realized something; I enjoyed helping people. As simple as that may sound I deemed it to be quite a remarkable discovery. I began to wonder:
Was I always like this?
What made helping others feel so fulfilling?
Why can't I remember my past?
How did I end up with this so-called 'Organization'?
And who was that random boy from my-
"Luna?"
I snapped out of my trance to glance at Cinderella.
"I'm sure that once everything calms down you'll be able to return to your original size."
"Oh, don't worry about it, Cindy; I don't mind." I lied in an even tone.
Truth be told I was concerned, but there were more important things than my current, despicable-
"How lovely you look, my dear."
I froze and Cinderella almost had a heart attack. "Stepmother?!"
"It appears you were right, Cinderella." Her wicked Stepmother let out a ghastly sigh before coming into view from behind a distant curtain. "The Prince does want to marry you and marry you he shall."
The four of us all looked at her confused until she motioned for someone else to enter the room.
"Anastasia?"
Only it wasn't the Anastasia we all remembered...
"Or should I say...'Cinderella'?"
"What have you done?" Cinderella managed to choke out in a whisper. "You...you can't pretend to be me."
I glared at Cinderella's Stepmother with ease. "The Prince won't be fooled!"
"The Prince will never know!" She hissed back. "He'll be perfectly happy."
It was then that Cinderella compose herself. "But will you, Anastasia? Will you be happy?"
"I...I want what you had." Anastasia confessed.
Cinderella appeared skeptical. "But do you even love him?"
"I-"
"Love?" Her Stepmother interjected with spite. "Ha! Look where it's gotten you."
With a terrifying expression she retracted the wand from her right sleeve and whipped it in Cinderella's direction. The mice and I sprang into action as everything around us seemed to slow down. Scared that we wouldn't reach her in time we did the only we could; we screamed simultaneously.
"Cinderella!"
"Cinderelley!"
