Chapter 2

Running away hadn't been the hard part.

Dealing with the after-worries was the real trouble.

Arme thought she was crazy. All those magic training had finally gotten to her head. Run away? Run away from home, straight into the Elite Corps of Serdin, Serdin which her mother worked for. Since her mother was in a high position, and since Arme was known for joining the Violet Mage Guild at an early age, people would recognize her. She'd be sent home when found. And when sent back home, she would receive a lecture on what a menace she was and what she had done to damage her mother's reputation.

Besides, she didn't even know if she was ready to kill for the world. She had never really killed anything before. She'd fought with trainers, but she hadn't attacked them enough to kill them. Her mother's words flashed into her mind; "You're only 15," Would she be able to handle killing? Well, killing the monsters might not be a problem, but she'd eventually have to kill other people that were working for Kaze'aze.

She probably wouldn't feel bad if they were evil. Like evil as in Kaze'aze evil. But she heard and knew Kaze'aze brainwashed people into serving her. She also manipulated, too. That meant that her victims didn't have a choice but to fight for evil, and she'd be killing them. Killing people who could have been living regular lives before Kaze'aze showed up.

And… was her magic strong enough? The Grand Chase was a group of warriors working for the queen, saving the world. Could a 15 year old fit in? The queen probably wanted pros, not 15 year old children who had actually never killed anything before.

Arme sighed into the silent night. Why did these questions and doubts occur to her now? Why not back at home, where she still had a choice?

"Whatever," she muttered under her breath. She started thinking of solutions.

She could use magic to change her hair color. She didn't know how to change the color of her eyes, so instead she decided to cover her face which accessories; maybe an eye patch to cover her eye, pretending like she hurt it. On the other half of her face, she would lace it with magical tattooing; representing that she was a magician. And the spiral tattoos would help distract others from recognizing her features.

The killing part… she would have to deal with. She had always known when the moment would come, when she studied magic, whether with a teacher or on her own time. She'd start with small stuff, and then move onto… other stuff.

For her being weak… Well, the continent needed all the help it could get. And she wasn't really that weak… Or at least she hoped not. She hadn't been accepted into the Violet Mage Guild, the best mage guild in Serdin, at an early age for nothing. If she really did fall behind, she would practice on her own time, like she always had at home. It wouldn't be that hard to learn more, since there would be professional magicians there to help out.

See; Arme reasoned with her negative side of the brain. Things don't have to turn out to be so bad.

As soon as she had these thoughts organized, she started on changing her appearance. She didn't have an eye patch, but she could change her hair color and length, along with doing her facial tattoos.

She decided that black hair would probably look the most natural with purple eyes; excluding purple itself, of course. Arme grabbed a handful of hair, and concentrated, in a special way she did when she was casting magic. She could feel the burning Mana inside her, as her powers rumbled from its sleep. It awoke and she felt it running across all strands of her hair.

Longer, she commanded in her head. It immediately responded by lengthening her hair, up to her thigh.

Wait; up to her thigh? Whoa, she hadn't meant to make it that long. But she left it anyway, as it would make her look different. Arme got to work on her facial tattoos.

There was nothing to decide for the magic tattoos; just the color and where they would take place, since they spun on their own when ordered by the caster. The shapes, lines, and swirls all depended on what kind of magic the caster could use.

Arme chose the color black; to match her hair. It could take any place around her face on the left side, she decided. Then she let her magic start its work.

She could feel it; when the magic was casted, she felt as if a paintbrush or a pen was drawing on her face. It started right at the outer end of her left eye, swirling and moving across her face, creeping up just a third over her eyebrows on the outer side, diving down to mark her cheek, and than staining a part of her neck.

Momentarily, Arme frowned. Why was it going so far? But then she remembered in magic class; the more powerful the caster was, the farther the tattoo traveled. So she took it as a kind of honor when it was creeping at her neck.

Then the funny sensation of being drawn on disappeared, and she realized that the magic was finished. Now, all she needed was an eye patch for her right eye, and her transformation would be complete. She decided she'd get that when she was in town; for she had nothing to make an eye patch with.

And right at that moment; red alert. Where the hell was town? She knew that the castle stood after the busy marketplace of the major city, but which way was that?

Arme frowned. She should be able to see the top of the castle from anywhere near Serdin, but it was so dark she couldn't see too much in front of her. She considered using fire to light up her vision, but it wouldn't penetrate far for her, and would only attract unwanted attention. If someone found her, they would ask her questions about her identity; and she'd have no answer. Partly because she couldn't.

Then she realized that she was going to need a name in order to register for the Grand Chase; and that meant lying. But this type of lying was different. She would be fooling the entire Kingdom if she lied. Just the thought of it made her shudder. She could almost see the queen's face when she found out she had been lied to by a 15 year old.

She looked down at the ground, frowning. Wait a minute, the queen wouldn't notice her. Arme would only be noticed if she became a hero. And the truth would be far out before then, if she even became one. If she even survived that far.

Sighing, Arme didn't know what to do. But then, when she was about to give up this outrageously crazy runaway, she remembered what Cassandra had told her when Arme had told her maid about wanting to join Grand Chase, and how her mother would disagree because she would think it was a bad idea.

'Well Miss, if you truly would like to know what I think, I think that sometimes in order to reach true dreams, people will have to do that risk their lives for bad ideas. And anyway, where do bad ideas come from? As an old writer said, there are good and bad stuff because we have thoughts.'

'What does that mean?' Arme had asked.

'I'm not too sure about that Miss, but I like to think that it means that when some events in life could be "bad" to some, it could be good to others. People can give advice, people can give you thoughts, Miss, but in the end, you make the decisions and you have your own thoughts, whether it agrees or differs from everyone else. Just remember that; events have their good and bad, but what you think outweighs what others have to say about it. Have faith in what you believe.'

Yes. She now knew what Cassandra had meant. At that time, she had thought that there was no point to her thinking; or thinking itself at all. Only actions seemed to matter. But now she saw; thoughts led to actions. She thought that fighting for the world could outweigh the weight of disappointing her mother. She thought this, and it led to her running away, changing her appearance, and now lying up fake information for her false identity. Yes, her mother could've ranted away about how risky the Grand Chase was, but her mother couldn't change her mind. Only Arme could decide what she agreed on, or didn't agree on.

Besides, she was already out of her house. She had made her decision; and she knew that once she made it, there was no turning back. She was muddled, maybe lost, and her thoughts were all over the place, but she was out. Free. This had been her first choice. Her first decision. And she wouldn't turn her back on it.

She tilted her head up to stare into the night sky, where the stars shone brightly beside the moon. The night sky seemed especially dark today, as if telling Arme that was what her future would turn out because of what she had chosen. That it would be a dark, darker than the rest, night sky. But she did notice, that, if this was a vision into her future, the darker the night sky got, the brighter the moon and the stars shone.

Dun dun dun~ End of Chapter 2! Comments are always welcome. Remember, suggestions are needed for weapons and skills for the fifth classes of Ronan, Ryan, Sieghart, Lass, Jin, Amy, and Mari. Other fifth class names are needed for Jin and/or Mari! I'll try to upload as soon as possible! Thank you for reading this story and not throwing rocks at it. D:

P.S. To Utsuro: Thank you for being the first to comment on Chapter 1! xD I know you wanted the story length longer, and I'm so sorry I didn't. T_T But the reason I ended it at here is because at Chapter 3, the story shifts to Lire, and I didn't want it to change in the middle of the story. Dx But I promise! I'll make Chapter 3 longer... I... Think. I think it will be a while to Chapter 3, though.
