Maka POV
I didnt set my alarm that night. Since school was out for the week, I slept in this morning to recharge from the stressful past few days. Soul woke me up from padding into my bedroom with a cup of hot chocolate and some cereal. He was still in his pajamas and a blanket half wrapped around himself.
"Morning sunshine." he smirked and set the bowl on my nightstand. I was sitting up in my bed now. The sky was still clouded and dark outside.
"Morning." I said and took a sip of my hot chocolate. It was definitely what I needed.
"You gonna go see Kid today?" Soul asked as he sat on the foot of my bed. I nodded and continued sipping my drink. It was only 9 am but I felt like it was so much later.
"Go get dressed, by the time you're ready I'll be too." I stood and set the empty mug down. He sighed.
"Cant we for once take our time?"
"No! Not with something this important." I argued and he groaned, standing up. He dragged his blanket out the door with him.

Liz POV
I felt sore and stiff from sleeping on the tiny couch in the hospital room, but there was no way Patty or I was leaving Kid all by himself in here. It had rained all night last night, leaving the air cool and crisp in the morning. Dr Stein had periodically checked in, making sure Kid was still stable and to occasionally change his bandages. Sid had dropped by once, even Lord Death had come by. Neither stayed long but both looked extremely pained by the scene before them. Kid had been unconscious for almost two days now and I was beginning to get worried. I held his hand every chance I could, just in case he was in there somewhere.
"Liz?" Patty's tired and small voice came again. "Does he look ok?"
"Yes, Patty. Hes just sleeping." I reassured her again. We sat on the couch and quietly talked, read, or slept. Until I heard the heart machine change in speed. My eyes shot up towards the machines screen, the evenly spaced spikes closer together and larger.
"Liz!" Patty said anxiously and I sat down in the chair by the bed and took his hand again. My heart caught in my throat as his eyes finally cracked open, golden orbs struggling to focus.
"Liz? Patty?" he said quietly and weakly, his gaze shifting to Patty standing behind me. I squeezed his hand as tears welled up in my eyes. Kid was back, he'd be ok. "Where are we?"
"The infirmary. You've been asleep for two days." I said and he slowly looked over at the heart monitor next to the bed.
"I thought you were going to die!" Patty suddenly burst out, leaning her head onto his chest. He stroked her hair lightly with the hand without an IV.
"Not that easily." he sighed and then grimaced as he finally noticed the pain in his shoulder.
"I can get Stein if you want, maybe get some pain killers?" I offered but Kid shook his head.
"Medications dont stay long in my system unfortunately." he said and I remembered his reaper body would reject any toxins pretty fast. I heard the door slowly open and I glanced back.
"Kid!" Maka said and rushed forward to the bedside. "You're awake!"
"Barely..." Kid said, his voice groggy and slurred. He blinked hazily around the room, unable to really focus on anything.
"Welcome back." Soul smiled and sat down next to Maka. Kid leaned his head against the pillow, his eyes struggling to stay open.
"You can go back to sleep if you want." Patty said softly, patting his head. His eyes slowly closed and he slipped back into a deep sleep. Maka and Soul leaned back against the couch. Kid waking up finally was a good sign, I only hoped he'd recover quickly from this. Before he noticed the asymmetrical way they wrapped his bandages and arranged his hospital room...
Maka POV
Kids unfocused golden eyes looked tiredly around his hospital room and at each of us sitting. He seemed to be confused but glad of the company. Patty was leaning on the bed side, slowly rubbing his arm with a finger but he didnt mind. Liz was a spaz as she moved around the room anxiously, sometimes sitting but then standing again. After some time Kid began to drift off again. Once he had fallen asleep again we took time to really take in the good news. Now that he had finally woken up, maybe he could start recovering faster. My tension eased a little and I leaned into the couch. Souls smile caught me off gaurd and I smiled back.
