That Girl: Chapter 4

"I'm sorry Len…"

Hmm? Who's that?

Suffocating depths of black draw me in slowly.

Where am I…? Who am I…?

"Len, I'm so, so sorry." Light sobs start to form from this mystery voice I hear.

Am I supposed to be Len?

Ah, that's right, now I remember.

I'm Kagamine Len…

…that's all I can remember.

"Len…please…" That voice… It was angelic sounding. Now that I think about it, it sounded strangely warm.

Familiar.

Like gentle ringing…

"Rin!"

Suddenly I'm awoken by my own voice. Lights above me are painfully blaring, making me feel slightly nauseas.

"You're awake!" My eyes were still adjusting to the light, but I could still recognize that high-pitched voice;

Miku.

"Miku…? What happened?" My voice was dry like I swallowed a bucket of sand. How long was I out?

She tackled me with a quick hug and sat back down in her seat. My eyes started to refocus better, and I could see her more clearly this time.

"There was an accident at the stairs, Len. You had a concussion. It was pretty bad, but nothing was too damaged." She smiled, with hints of relief on her lips.

"You know… Rin rushed you to the nurses office all by herself." She giggled. "She even stayed with you all three nights you were out. I'm glad she finally fell asleep…"

What? Rin stayed with me? The whole time…?

"…!" I jerked up a little, noticing the petite girl who was laying half on the bed, half sitting in a chair. She was quietly breathing, looking warm. Her usual white bow fell off and was laying at the edge of the bed, and her tousled, golden hair fell across her neck like a waterfall of honey.

"Idiot, don't wake her up! She only just fell asleep! I kept telling her to eat or take a nap or something, but she totally refused!"

For three whole days? Just for me…?

My eyes were stuck on her face, as her shoulders slightly rose up and down in rhythm of her breathing. Her usual milky white skin looked a bit pinker than usual, contrasting with the bleach white bandage still on here cheek. and from this distance I could see how long her eyelashes were, and how she had a freckle near her left eye. She was so…

"Pfft, fine, ignore me then~"

Oh shoot! Miku's still here. "S-Sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you…" I stammered.

She pouted her usual sickenly sweet pout, but then quickly changed her expression to a sincere smile.

"Just kidding. I know you want to be with your girlfriend alone when she wakes up, so I'll get going."

Heat instantly burst from my cheeks. I quickly slapped the backside of my hand on my face to cool it down, turning my head the opposite direction of Miku. No way am I going to let her see me like this!

She smirked, as if to read my thoughts. "Idiot~" She sang as she walked out of the room.

Now, it was just Rin and I.

I couldn't help but put my hand on her soft, flowy hair. I gently rubbed my hand across her head.

"Mnuh…" She made a quiet noise. So cute…

My face was probably a deep red, but I didn't do anything to conceal it. It was just she and I anyways. And if she woke up, I frankly didn't care what I looked like. She'd be in my arms, after all.

"Nngh…Len…"

I smiled, but I noticed her face tense up a bit.

"Len…sorry…" This time her voice was a bit raised, as she twisted a bit in her sleep.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" She said, moving from her comfortable position, now squirming on the sheets. A nightmare…?

"Rin!" I shook her with a heavy jerk, and she quickly popped her eyes open.

"L-Len…?" She said groggily.

And as if someone just electrocuted her, she shoots up and pushes me down with a hug. "Len!"

I welcome her warm embrace, feeling her warm body on mine.

"Rin…" I said softly.

"Len, I'm so so sorry, I understand if you hate me. It's all my fault, it's all my fault…"

I pushed her back, maybe a little too hard, keeping my hands on her shoulders. I stared right into her glassy blue eyes. "Rin, listen to me. It was not you're fault. I was being reckless. Understand? It's not your fault." I don't know what I looked like, but I knew she was aware how serious I was.

She sat there motionless, letting my words sink in. "It's not you're fault, please don't blame yourself for it." I repeated. She gave a small nod. She looked like a child who had just been reprimanded.

I'm not one to pity people, but if it was Rin, I knew I was defenseless. "Come here…" My voice softened as I pulled her back into my arms.

And we just sat there.

Like time didn't exist.

Like this room didn't exist.

Like there were no other people on this planet.

"Len…?"

She said, about to break off the warm embrace.

"Hm?" I squeezed her back harder in response.

"I…Len…" She gave in, melting into my arms more.

"No, I…I need to talk to you." She said. I felt her heart beat fast against mine.

"Then tell me…tell me anything Rin."

"No, I mean it's important!" She successfully pulled out of my grip and looked at me with a fully flustered face.

I sighed. I wanted to hug her more, but I also wanted to hear what she had to say too. "Alright, you have my attention."

She took a deep breath, and started to shake.

"R-Rin…are you okay?"

She opened and closed her mouth like a fish gasping for water, unsure what she should say.

"Rin…" I began to move closer to her, about to hold her again.

"N-No!" She softly brushed my hand aside. "I-I have to do this on my own." She said, avoiding my stare.

"I…I have to tell you about me. About this bandage, about why I'm like this, about… about…

everything"
