Caitlin was nervously bouncing her leg, while waiting for Cisco to arrive at Jitters coffee house. She so desperately wanted to just get up and walk away while she still could, but she kept thinking about Barry and how happy he was for her last night when she told him, she was finally talking to Cisco face-to-face. She couldn't let him down. Right?
"You're doing the right thing Cait. This is your next step" he smiled
"You're really here" A familar voice said from behind. Caitlin turned in her chair, to see Cisco's smiling face and open arms. She jumped out of her chair to give him a hug. They both laughed with joy and relief that both of them where ok.
"I missed you" Caitlin said as they pulled apart and took their seats.
"Me too" Cisco smiled. He hadn't changed, his dark hair still touched his shoulders, he was wearing one of his 'Big Bang Theory' T-shirts, had the same happy light in his eyes. He couldn't say the same for Caitlin though. She was very different. The way she did her makeup, the black leather jacket and army-like-boots she wore and her smile held a inkling of sadness.
"Where do we even start?" Caitlin asked.
"How about here...How are you?"
"Hitting me with the hard ones up first" she laughed
"It's important to me" he squeezed her hand
"I...honestly don't know. I mean I think I'm happy. My job is OK, and I have a roof over my head..." she trailed off
"Buttt?..."
"But, nothing feels normal. It's like I am living a life that isn't mine."
"I felt like that for a while too, after the..." he swallows "it gets better. Working at Murcery labs gave me some normality"
"How are they treating you over there?" She asked changing the topic of conversation on to him.
"Pretty good. It's not as good as Star Labs because you're not there...and also because the satellite was so much better, and equipment newer and budget bigger, but mainly because you're not there" he smiled
"Good to know I am better than a big budget" she smiled
"You can still apply you know. I will put in a good word"
"No. I can't" she shook her head
"Why not? This could help you. You will have me and be doing everything you love and things could go back to normal...well not normal but closer to it" he was like a child trying to get his divorced parents back together. He had no hope but still tried. Seeing that look on his face hurt Caitlin, because she knew she was hurting him. But she can't go back into that world.
"I'm sorry...I can't go back. I chose to work where I do because nobody knows me. My story. Ronnie" 'all except one'
"I get that, but Cait what happened wasn't your fault. It was his!" He shouted quietly
"You really still believe he blew up Star Labs on purpose. He had no reason too"
"There is only one way to find out. We break into Star Labs. Everything is still there, except the equipment destroyed by the explosion. We could find something, evidence to say he planned this"
"Cisco, Doctor Wells wanted to change the world for the better, not cause an explosion that would kill hundreds of people. We could get into serious trouble if caught trespassing into Star Labs" ever since the explosion it has become a restricted area and ever since the explosion Cisco has had this gut feeling that it wasn't a total accident.
"Trespassing!? Caitlin that was our home for months. I would hardly call it trespassing" he was offended.
"You know what I mean. Doctor Wells was a victim of that explosion, just like Ronnie...and all the others" she told him
"I will always love you Cait" Ronnie's last words spoken into a radio, for Caitlin to hear on the other side of the pipeline door.
"I love you too." She could hear her heat beat in her ears, she couldn't believe this was actually happening. She was losing her one true love.
"Caitlin we gotta go. Now!" Cisco grabbed her hand, pulling her away.
"Ronnie!"
"Exactly! Ronnie was a victim. Don't you want to know the truth about what really happened that night" Cisco's words pulled Cait out of the painful memory
"How did we miss it than? How did he get us to make a bomb?"
"Everything we did in Stars labs was revolutionary, innovative, nobody really knew what they where doing and he could have tampered with things we didn't detect. I know that this sounds crazy, but I know some part of you believe's me...I can't do this without you Cait" she took a minute to think about her reply.
"I'll think about it...just don't do anything stupid, until I make up mind" Caitlin warned as she grabbed her bag and stood up from the table
"You're leaving already?" Cisco stood up
"I will talk to you soon. I promise" she nodded, before turning to make her way out of Jitters.
"The last time you said that, I didn't hear from you for twelve months" he called after her.
Once she made it to her car, she just sat there thinking about their conversation. This is exactly why it has taken Caitlin so long to talk to Cisco again. All his crazy theories about what really happened that night. It's all to much too soon. She was just starting to accept and move on, than Cisco comes and tells her to break into Star Labs with him and brings up all these memories she doesn't want to remember. She wasn't angry at him, she also knew that something wasn't quite right that night but digging into it could change things, more then they already have.
