Chapter 4: The Calm Before the Storm

He did not know that this emotion exists inside him. He is always the winner, the one who is always right and he doesn't have any doubt about his ability. For winning is a pre-requisite for him, and he knows that no one will be able to change that fact.
Until he saw, the only girl that he had ever laid eyes on, the only one he had every love and will always love, smiling at another guy. He examined with very keen eyes every feature of that guy who stole the attention of his Tetsumi.
His hair is a shade of black, a refreshing smile plastered on his face and maybe he is taller than him. Akashi Seijuro narrowed his eyes at that last detail. He promised to himself that at the moment the opening ceremony end, he will immediately approach this guy and interrogate him about his business with Tetsumi. But as for now he will devise a plan on how to attack this possible opponent, just like how he planned strategies on the basketball court, but of course what is at stake right now is incomparable to a mere basketball game, for this is not just for the sake of winning, it was way more than that.

Akashi Seijuro (1st year high school) for the first time felt threatened.

The opening ceremony felt like a blur, a very long one for the anxious red-head who was sitting on one of the seats lined up on the stage. From the perspective of the audience, it was the same authoritative captain of the generation of miracles, who just delivered a perfect honor student speech without any trace of nervousness. But a certain bluenette with her usual blank expression knows that, that is only a façade. And she can feel that something is different in Akashi's demeanor. That kind of gaze focused on her made her shudder in fear, that is his usual look when he is up to something; she knew of this of course, for she had watched his countless basketball matches when they were still in middle school.

And she knew of that kind of look.. a calculative one, she had only seen it several times before and in all those matches Teiko had not only doubled the score of their opponent but tripled it, the game always ended as a cruel match-up.
If she were to describe it in a metaphorical way it is like: "A calm before the storm".

"Are you okay, Kuroko?" her childhood friend asked with a worried expression as they walked towards the exit of the school gym.

"Yes I was just thinking of something." She replied with her reassuring smile but her eyes trailed at the red head standing before them

Ogiwara curiously peered to where Tetsumi's attention was focused, and he saw the former captain of Teiko middle school basketball team, he felt a surged of excitement as he walk over towards him.

He admired the prowess of Akashi even though they were utterly beaten by his team; it indeed took him a long time to regain his confidence but he had already recovered from that lost, because of the encouragement of his team mates, and also because he still remembers his promise with Kuroko.

"Hello, I'm Ogiwara Shigehiro, well you probably had already forgotten about me, but we played during interhigh in middleschool." He lively greeted him with an unmasked anticipation

"What business do you have with Tetsumi?" Akashi asked flatly while looking at him with an intense gaze, his question came off more like a threat, a sign of repulsion aimed towards the person who just greeted him

If you have read the Teiko arc, you already know the significance of that last dialogue right? ;)
The last dialogue is taken from KNB manga Teiko arc, if you have not yet read it sorry for the minor spoiler? m(_ _)m
