ClideXIruka – The Beginning
I was always shy, I wouldn't doubt that. But I was never afraid to try new things.
I lived in Texas with my family—mother, father, and my two sisters. It was a peaceful life, well, to me it was. I had some friends, a few.
Then, it happened.
The men in violet cloaks announced that everyone had to be evacuated to a remote island, for safety.
Of course, my dad was against it. He thought it was crazy talk. It did to me too, a little. But I was curious all the same. What was going to happen? They didn't tell us. All they told us was, "If you don't get out soon, you'll die."
With those grave words, we had no choice. So, we packed our things and headed to the Island of Capital.
We found out that the hooded figures were called the Guardians. I didn't know what that meant at first, but it didn't faze me.
When we got there, we found out we had to live in an apartments for the time being. It was the Resident/Refugee District as I found out.
I'm not complaining about the apartments, they were fairly large and a bit overcrowded. But I was worried where our home was.
After a month or so, my mother enrolled me into a school that was located next the Resident District. It was called Capital Academy. Just that.
But I kept hearing a rumors that there was another school, but no one knows where it is. Or who even goes there. That intrigued me. But I didn't bother with that at the moment.
It's been two weeks since I've been going to Capital Academy, and it's been hectic. I haven't made any friends and I keep getting picked on.
They keep talking about my purple hair. Hey, I was born with it! It's not my fault.
But today, it wasn't good.
I was in the bathroom and looking in the mirror, fixing my hair. Then, all of a sudden, two girls walked in. They both had long hair in ponytails, one brunette and the other blonde. They were talking non-stop. But when they spotted me, they quieted down until they got to the other side of the bathroom. But I could still hear them. Talking. About me.
"Did you hear about her?" the brunette whispered. "Who?" Silence. "Oh, her!" "Yeah. I mean, she has purple hair! That's so unnatural!" Silence again. "I know. What a freak."
I shook in front of the mirror. I hated this. So much.
Don't worry. I quickly gasped. You're not alone, anymore. "W—who said that?!" I cried.
The two girls stopped talking. "We didn't say anything, Freak." I wanted to yell at her to shut up, but I couldn't. I didn't.
The bathroom began to shake. The girls—including me—fell dead silent.
Then, it happened. Water shot out the toilets and rushed against the girls—getting a few tiles along the way. It hit them with full force, which knocked them out, silencing their screams. But I was screaming myself.
I held my hand up and a trail of water followed. I stopped screaming, and moved my hand around the air. The water followed. "What the—?" I whispered. This confused, scared, and amazed me at the same time.
A teacher ran in, slipped, and screamed. "W—what?" was all she could say. I couldn't respond.
I was referred the principal. Of course, he was as speechless as I. He didn't know how to handle this. He said this is "beyond his knowledge". Same here.
He let me go to lunch, it was around that time. And I was hungry.
No one sat with me, of course they wouldn't. But the rumors were new. "Is she a witch?" "What? Dark Magic? Maybe. . ." "What a witch." "She has to be a witch." "Freak." ". . . ."
I tried hard to ignore them, but they all revolved around me.
Then, I noticed something. Or someone. He was sitting three tables in front of me. He had red hair that matched his long red scarf. And he wore a bright blue shirt with two dark blue stripes and a red star. And his bright blue eyes saw me.
But there was something about him. The air around him seemed to be bright and orange. Like, it was lit with fire. A few sparks danced around him, well, that's what I saw. I blinked, but the strange fire-type aura remained around him.
He noticed I was staring at him, and got up. No, don't leave. He walked down the hallway and left. I was sad after that. I didn't see him for the rest of the day.
The rest of the school day, however, was utter horror. I couldn't stand it. People called me names, threw stuff at me, and things I don't want to mention.
When I got home, my mother saw that I was in tears.
"What happened?" she cried. I remained silent. How can I explain what happened to today to her? I'm still confused on it. I just shook my head.
"Can you transfer me out?" I begged. She nodded, knowing the pain. "Sure. Whatever you want." I nodded and ran to my room.
I fell on my bed, and grabbed my stuffed animal bunny, Mr. King Rabbit, and snuggled him. I cried into his soft blue fur. He had two button eyes and a small marble nose, he also has a crown on his left side of his head—his left ear fell out of the crown. I had Mr. King Rabbit since birth.
Then I remembered. "Maybe, he's around here." I thought to myself. I pushed Mr. King Rabbit's head up and down, making him agree with me.
"Let's go explore!" I said. Mr. King Rabbit didn't respond, but I knew what he said. "Yeah, you're probably right. We should go tomorrow! And plus, tomorrow's Saturday!" I cried with laughter. I fell asleep right after that.
In the morning I packed some water bottles and three packages of Pop-Tarts. After I ate breakfast, I grabbed Mr. King Rabbit and started to explore the area. I walked through three districts and sat down for a break. I walked so much, I was covered in sweat.
But the air was weird around me. It was humid. Almost blazing. But it was almost November. And it's quite chilly.
"Who are you?" I looked up and gasped. It was him. That boy. "I—Iruka Futon Sutton!" I cried. "That's a nice name. I'm Clide Rosenhall."
"Now answer this, Iruka, what were you doing?" Clide asked. I froze for a moment. How can I tell him that I was stalking him? "Um, exploring." "Really, now?" I nodded.
"And what happened yesterday?" he asked. I looked down. "Don't worry, you can tell me." "T—That's none of your business!" I cried. "So, something did happen. In the girls' restroom." "H—how do you know?" I asked. "Rumors fly faster than you think."
Clide put a hand on my shoulder, and I shuddered. "Don't worry. You're not alone."
I looked up at him. "Y—you know what I am?" I whimpered. He nodded.
"Watch this." He turned and extended his hand out. All of a sudden, flames started to shoot out of his hand. I actually fell back. He closed his hand and the flames were gone. He chuckled and turned back. A look of shock was written on his face.
"I won't hurt you! I promise." I slowly nodded.
"I'm a Pyromancer. A person who can control fire. There's Aquamancer; water, Geomancer; Earth, and Aeromancer; air."
"D—did you say 'water'?" He nodded. "Why?"
I looked around and saw a puddle. "This, is why." I found a small puddle, that's all I need. I extended my hand and concentrated. I'm here. I closed my eyes and started to lift my hand. I heard Clide gasp, so I knew the water had risen.
I felt Clide grab my wrist, and pulled it down. Making me stop summoning the water. "You can stop now. Or you'll make a water skyscraper." he said with a chuckle. I opened my eyes to his smile. "S—sorry." I said. "It's fine."
"Now, I know." he said. "Know what?" I asked. "That you're an Aquamancer!"
Clide grabbed my arm and started to pull me with him.
"Where are we going?!" I cried. "To the Institute!" he called back.
"An Institute?!" I tried to pull back, I even hit him. "I'm not crazy!" I cried. He stopped and started to laugh.
"Idiot. The Institute isn't for crazy people. Although, I deal with them all day; they're quite stupid. It's a place for 'gifted' people." he said. "Gifted?" I asked. "People with elemental abilities. Like you and me. There's another person I know who can control fire like I can." I looked up at him. "Really?" I asked, smiling. He nodded.
"Want to meet him?" Clide asked. I nodded. "Then come with me!" With a nod, he pulled me to a big college type building.
It was beautiful. A main building, two circular building branched off by hallways. But there was one problem for me, trolls. And they were at the front gate.
I hid behind Clide. "Scared of trolls?" he asked. I nodded. "Don't worry. They won't hurt you, unless you tease them. Like I do. I guess that's why they don't like me." That's reassuring.
"Late, are we?"
Clide turned, so did I, and saw another person. He, well it seemed to be a 'he', had long blue hair, covered in a white cloak, and had bright blue eyes. "Professor Blaze!" Clide said. Blaze chuckled. "So, what were you doing?" Blaze asked. "Um, exploring." Blaze shook his head with a smirk.
"What are you doing outside?" Clide asked. "We just got back." "Where's Kurai then?" "In the infirmary." "What?! Again?" Blaze nodded. "Apparently, air pressure goes right to his head and makes him pass out. And he started to fall to the surface. But, I caught him just in time."
"How is he?" Clide asked. "He still hasn't woken up." Clide looked down. Who was Kurai?, I wondered.
"Anyway, who's this?" Blaze asked. "Oh, this is Iruka. And she's an Aquamancer!" Clide said. "An Aquamancer, really?" I nodded. Blaze smiled. Blaze had a calming mist around him.
"So, that's what you were doing." Blaze said. Clide twitched. Caught in the act.
"Anyway, we should get inside." Blaze said. Clide nodded and gave me a reassuring look.
