Yay, another chapter! I decided I might as well do one because I want to try and get more people interested in this story and once this one is over I will do Tori's Second Year and so on, if it gets successful. So please give this story a try, leave a review if there are any improvements you can suggest because I want this story to be good :) Thanks, and enjoy this chapter!
The dormitory was quiet. Soft snores, the sound of people tossing and turning. I was the first one awake. At first I just lay there, frozen in my place, but then I realized if I was early, I could get ready and explore a bit. They didn't say anything about not being able to leave until a specific time. Then again, what if it was the rules and I was given detention before classes even started? That wouldn't be a good reputation and my father wouldn't be proud of me. I sighed. Maybe if I just checked upstairs to see if people were already up...it would be helpful if there was a clock here...I got up hesitantly and slipped on a dressing gown and walked into the common room.
It was mostly quiet, but someone familiar was sitting by the window. Draco. He was in his pyjamas too, and it was kind of weird, but whatever. I walked up to him. "Do you know what time it is?" I asked tiredly, feeling my hair. It wasn't that tangled, but it certainly wasn't as straight and shiny as it was yesterday. Damnit, now I didn't have Mum to do my hair for me, I'd have to just use Muggle tools to do it. Did Hogwarts even have plugs for straighteners? I certainly didn't bring a bloody socket with me. Draco turned around and looked grumpy. "Here to lecture me about the time? Because I'm not that interested in a rant."
"Well, I'm up as well, aren't I?" I said. "Scoot over."
He made room for me to sit down as well. "I love being in Slytherin and everything," I said quietly. "But living in the dungeons just gets on my nerves."
"Yeah." Draco seemed quiet for some reason. He looked down. "I wonder what classes we have today?" I voiced my thoughts out loud.
He just made a sound that was a bit like agreement, but I wasn't sure. He seemed to be in an odd mood today. I really did wonder what time it was and why he was up. There were so many questions flying around in my head, but I didn't dare ask them. I just stood up again. "I better get ready."
"Wait!" he said. "Tori, I...I kind of..."
"You kind of what?"
"It's nothing." He suddenly looked away. "Go get ready or whatever. I don't really care."
I gave him an odd look and walked away back to the dorm. I quietly tip-toed to my bed and to my dresser. Pansy stirred and I froze, but she just turned over and continued to snore gently. I sighed with relief. Pansy didn't seem like a morning person to me. She seemed like the type of girl who 'needed her beauty sleep'. I was usually up quite late and up very early. Brought out the color in my eyes. Not that I really cared about what my eyes looked like. I dressed in my robes and sat on my bed drawing for a while. A few girls woke up and started their day. They started wondering aloud when breakfast was. I heard one say - "I hope it's a breakfast buffet. The food here has been incredible so far." I knew for a fact that there was a breakfast buffet every day. My parents had told me about their experience at Hogwarts ages ago. I asked my dad what his favorite part of Hogwarts was. He chuckled and said, "The food, of course," and ruffled my hair. I remember getting really irritated at him because I'd straightened and done my hair all fancy and he ruined it.
Pansy woke up and sounded really tired. "God, what's the time? Am I late for breakfast? Am I late to class?"
"No, but you will be if you don't start getting dressed now," I replied.
Pansy fumbled around for her robes and then got dressed while I brushed out my hair. My hair wasn't really really long, but it was okay. Mid-length, black hair, naturally shiny when I used my brush. All the other brushes made my hair all frizzy and disgusting to look at. I never used any other brush, even when I had head lice in Year Four. Mum made sure any lice were washed off the brush. Pansy and I went down to breakfast together, arm-in-arm. We arrived at the Great Hall and the tables were already crowded. As we walked over to where Draco and his friends sat, he ducked his head. I gave him another odd look and sat down opposite him.
"I'm still not fully awake," Pansy laughed. She gazed at Draco the whole time. He didn't look at her, or me. He focused on his food. There was something going on here. Either Pansy liked Draco, or Draco liked Pansy. In a like-like way. I helped myself to some bacon and eggs. "Ooh, hash browns!" I grabbed them too, and stuffed my face. I was perfectly happy with my almost-completely flat stomach. It didn't matter if I put on a few pounds. I could exercise by running in the grounds. That would burn off the calories from the food here. I poured a goblet of pumpkin juice and offered one to Draco. He snatched it, and another slice of toast, and ran out the Great Hall.
"Something's wrong with Draco," I thought, then I realized I'd said it out loud. Pansy stared at me. "He's just shy because he likes you."
"He does not!" I protested, and Pansy looked back at her food. I saw jealousy in her eyes. Okay, that was it, she liked Draco. No doubt about it. But what about Draco himself? I had to admit, I saw them as a pretty good couple. When they were older. First year was all about new classes, new books, new friends and a whole new atmosphere. As well as getting to know the school a bit. Not about love and everything. That was for future years. It was strictly off-limits to first years. But what if...?
So this turned out longer than expected, but whatever. What do you think is wrong with Draco? What do you want to happen in classes? Do you think Draco and Pansy like each other, or is there a bit of a mix here? Leave a review :)
