This chapter really took me long to write, so sorry for the long wait, but hope you all like it.

Chapter 4- Surprise

Elizabeta's POV

Its already been a full week since the accident with Wy. Its 9:30 in the morning and I'm sipping black coffee as I sit on a hard plastic chair across from her. It smells of medicine and death; I've never liked hospital's and I try to keep my distance away from them. I try not to shudder at the machines that help Wy live or make faces at her injured body. Her black and blue face will take weeks to heal. Its an awful sight and I wasn't the only one that cried when we saw her like this. I touch her hand, its warm but lifeless. I promise myself not to cry, but I can't help it as salt spills from my eyes. I hate myself, and I blame myself for what happened to her. If I didn't faint Wy wouldn't be in this situation; fighting for her life. If I took a taxi to Bella's house, I wouldn't have run into Gilbert and she wouldn't have met Peter. If I would have said no to Bella about attending the sleepover, both of us would have been alright. We could have avoided all of this mess and gone with our regular lives, but destiny loves to punch me in the gut and laugh.

The doctors told us that when Wy wakes up she might want to take some sociological therapy. The doctors scanned tests to see if she was rape, she wasn't, but she was severely injured. They warned us she might be traumatize when she wakes up and not really remember all that happened, so she might get frequent flashbacks.

I carefully brush Wy's hair into a ponytail avoiding the bruises and cuts on her face. Her hair felt greasy. We couldn't wash her hair, she had stitches that had to be held in place or her wounds would open.

I've been hearing little voices in my head that have been creating murderous dreams for me in the past few days. Vickie, Sprite, and Little Jonny have been telling me many ways on how to kill and torture and humiliate Peter. I'd wake up every time in sweat and my hands would be shaking in fear. Vickie would laugh hysterically at my weakness, and Sprite would tell me which method I prefer when torturing. Little Jonny would tell me things I didn't understand.

"He hides in the shadows," Little Jonny giggled. "He likes playing hide-n-seek. He's always the seeker, he loves playing games; games that you can't win!"

I've taken medication to sooth my nerves down. Popping pills left and right, some of them not even mine. Its scaring me that I can't control my fear or worse, the voices in my head. Its not like me to be like this. I'm not the one that gets scared easily, I'm the one that usually defends the one being frightened.

My friends have seen me change over the past few days. Suvi encourages me to see a shrink. I hide my disgust and plaster a fake smile of that of a barbie doll and tell her sweetly that it won't be necessary.

"I'm still in shock, you know? I just need some time."

Suvi hugs me, "yeah your right, but if you need anything don't hesitate to call any of us."

"I know." I let go of her. That was before I came to the hospital from my night classes. I even manage to "borrow" a purple tablet from Natalya's book bag. It helps her battle her inner voices, it'll help me battle mine.

"Hickory, dickory dock. The mouse runs up the clock. The clock strikes 10, the mouse runs down." Little Jonny whispered, "you know who the mouse is… Hmmm?"

My eyes widen in shock, as I cover my ears up, "Shut up! God dammit!"

"You shut up!" Hisses Vickie. "Listen."

"Am I the mouse?" My bottom lip trembling.

"Nope," Little Jonny giggles. "Guess again! Time is running out."

I want to scream. I want answers not riddles. I look up at the clock it reads 9:58.

"Tik tok, time is running out."

"I don't get what your trying to tell me," I scream.

"Pretty, but stupid," Vickie criticizes. "Strong, but weak."

I slump in my chair, coffee in right hand. I pull something from my left coat pocket. The smooth, purple tablet lays cold in my hand. I throw the tablet at the back of my dry throat, and wash it with lukewarm coffee. I sigh in relief as the voices start to fade and then stop talking altogether. The clock strikes 10, and I hear the door open. I quickly spin my head around to face the intruder, but lower my guard down when I find out its the nurse. She walks over to Wy and checks her blood pressure and heart beats. She writes something down, and smiles as she walks out the door. If I were paying attention, I would've notice that her eyes where pupil less.

I get up to throw away the empty coffee cup. I turn on the television that's located near Wy's hospital bed. The only good thing on was the weather report and golf, which I'm both uninterested in. I hear the beeps of the machine that indicate her regular heartbeats; slow, but steady. I hear my stomach growl loudly; my Starbucks coffee wasn't that filling for breakfast.

I rub my temples to ease the oncoming headache.

I look up at the ticking clock and sigh, remembering what had happened after I woke up from my fever. Lilli and Kat where there to help me to the kitchen. I was confused and didn't know what was going on, I was surprise to see them all there except for Wy. I was shock to see Mei on the kitchen floor sobbing while Lien and Natalya where calming her down while trying to pry some information out of her. We didn't know what she was talking about. She kept switching from English to Chinese making it hard for Lien to know what she was saying. She finally found out and quickly told us about Peter and Wy.

Bella quickly got her yearbook she had in her bedroom and showed us the picture of Peter Kirkland.

"Isn't that kid who came to our school after winter break from the U.K?" I told them.

"Yeah," Natalya replied. "Our school was pretty big, but a lot of people knew about him. They say his family stayed in the U.K and he came by himself to the States to live with his uncle. Who knew he'd be a freak."

Mei, Lien and Natalya went to the police station to file a report on Wy's disappearance. They tweaked the story to the cops or they wouldn't believe us if we told them that vampire's where real, and they attacked Wy and me.

We stayed by the phone the whole night, and we waited for someone, anyone to call us and tell us that they found her. They called at around two in the morning, but it wasn't the news we where expecting. They told us to go to the hospital located by Madison street. We all crammed ourselves in Suvi's car, and speeded to the hospital. The doctors told us that Wy was in a coma, and that she had lost a lot of blood, and had broken bones located on her ribcage and a fractured wrist.

Lien took Mei home and stayed with her. Mei felt that it was her fault that this happened to Wy. If she could've told Wy to leave sooner, or put up a fight with Peter then maybe Wy wouldn't be like this. We all agreed that one of us would keep Wy company each day in case she wakes up. Mei hasn't come to visit Wy and none of us have pushed her to do it. We don't know what happened to them or what Wy has been through, but right know Lien and Bella have stayed at Mei's side. Bella's worried what Mei might want to do to herself if they leave her alone. Natalya has suffered suicidal experiences in the past before she got adopted by Kat's parents and Bella doesn't want that to happen to Mei.

I turn off the television and debate, to whether to grab some food from the hospital's cafeteria, or stay with her. I jump from the hard chair and I quickly get out of the room to the elevators. I press a button and I wait as it takes me to the fifth floor. A man with a cart containing mops and brooms gets in the elevator as well. He has a gray beard, but his facial structures seem familiar. He catches me staring and I avert my attention to something else until the elevator doors open to where I'm heading. I quickly get off and race to the cafeteria. I grab a cupful of fruit and soup served in a disposable bowl. I wait in line and I notice a lot of old people. The one that got my attention the most was an old woman wearing bright red lipstick with hoop earrings dangling from her ears. She was talking to Lars which I'm guessing was her doctor.

"Hey! Lars over here," I shouted. He turns to my direction and waves. I notice the woman nudging him with her old elbow raising her eyebrows up and down while telling him something that made Lars turn red. I quickly paid, and I walk over to them. Lars' white coat suited him well and his spike hair made him look like a rebellious boy still in college.

"Hello darling," the old woman said in a thick accent. "My name is Caroline," she said as she kissed both of my cheeks.

I smiled, "pleasure to meet you, my name is Elizabeta."

She grabbed me by the arms, "Your a saint darling! I've been his nanny since he was little and now I'm his patient and he still throws fits even as an adult. He might be an ass, but he's a good guy," she seemed to reassure me that Lars' was a good boyfriend or something.

I caught a glance of Lars' crushing his cup of coffee in his hand. "I'm not his girlfriend," I told Caroline. "I'm just a good friend of both him and his sister."

"Oh!" She said in surprise. "Wait a second," she whispered. "YOU!" She yelled at Lars' in front of everyone to hear, "told me that you had a girlfriend named Eli-"

"Hey Stephen," Lars quickly interrupted Caroline and shouted just as loudly as he waved to an old man in a wheelchair.

Caroline quickly turned around, "how do I look sweetie?"

"Beautiful," I told her, giving her the okay.

"This isn't over," she told Lars. "Will be having this discussion next time I see you." She walked away from us and towards Stephen as she flirted with him asking how his day has been going.

I laughed, "I like her," I told Lars. "She reminds me of Bella."

Lars chuckled, "yeah, she kinda does. How's Wy doing? Has she woken up yet?"

I shook my head, the doctor said it could be any day now.

"I'm going to check up on her after I meet up with some of my patients," said Lars, as he threw his cup in the trash.

"Thanks! I've… well all of us have been really worried about her."

"What actually happened?" He asked me. "I can tell when Bella isn't telling me the truth." He looked at me in the eyes, wanting me to tell him everything that happened that night.

I grimace, "honestly, I don't know what happened. I fainted, and when I woke up Wy was gone." I looked down, breaking eye contact with Lars. I wasn't lying, but I wasn't telling him the whole truth. It looks like he doesn't believe me, but he doesn't know what happened, he wasn't even there.

Lars sighed, unscrewing a little metal bottle that was in his doctor coat. He took a swig of it and offered me some.

"What is it?"

"Whiskey," he replied. "Looks like you need some."

I took the tiny bottle and sipped some of it, only to cough. "That's strong," I told him, handing him back the bottle.

He cracked a smile of pearly white teeth and laugh. Making me turn red in embarrassment. He told me he couldn't get drunk at work, but his little bottle helps him get through the day.

I looked down at my watch and told Lars that I had to go back to check up on Wy before I leave to take my college classes.

As expected of Bella's mature older brother, he offered to walk with me.

We walked side by side to the elevators, until I heard his cellphone ring. He took out his phone from his pocket and I assume he was talking to his fellow workers.

"I'm going to have to cut my trip a little short," he told me. "I'm needed in the emergency room."

"Is it bad?" I asked him.

"Depends how bad it looks," he told me, quickly getting off the elevator taking the stairs to the first floor.

"Good luck," I told him, doubting he heard. I opened the door to her room and notice that someone was already in there.

"Who are you?" I asked the guy.

He turned around and I recognized him instantly; it was Peter. He had a bouquet of flowers in his hand. He laid them down on the table, and walk towards the window.

"Take a wild guess."

"What are you doing here Peter?"

He was gripping the edge of the table and it was bending in his grasp.

"I came to apologize."

I frowned, his fangs where noticeable, possibly due to the effects of the hospital. It must've reeked of blood getting him hungry.

"Get out!" I yelled at him. "Don't you EVER come near her again!"

He looked angry, he clench his teeth and narrowed his eyes dangerously at me.

"Don't tell me what to do. If you weren't taken by Gilbert, I would've killed you in a heartbeat."

I gasp, and then my eyes narrowed, shooting him daggers showing him I wasn't afraid. "What you did was despicable! Wy didn't even know you, and you come out of the blue and torture her."

"Don't make me get angry at you," he warned. "Once you rile me up," he smiled wickedly. "There's no way to calm me down."

He jumped out of a six story window, and I immediately closed the window. I looked at the flowers he brought her and threw them in the trash bin.

"Tik tok, what did I tell you?"

"Leave it Little Jonny, she doesn't listen. She should be afraid of them then of the voices in her head others can't hear. "

"You know you want to dissect him alive," Sprite told me. "You want to hear his cries of agony as you slice his stomach open and take out his intestines. You want to chop of his fingers one by one as little fountains of blood spurt through his hand. You want to gorge out his eyes and make him eat them. You want to skin him and lay him out in the sun to dry as the animals ravage his body. You want to kill him in so many ways, you want to make him pay, but you can't and you feel helpless." Sprite chuckled, "I feel you Liz, after all I'm part of you. Where ALL part of you. The good the bad the ugly."

"Look an see the diamond ring."

I frowned at Little Jonny, "What ring?"

"You really have proven to us that your a blind mice," Vickie told me with disgust.

I got up and inspected Wy's hands. There wasn't a ring.

"A ring for a bride, a lover a necklace, a bracelet for a cheater, hell for a killer."

There wan't a ring or a bracelet. I peered at Wy's neck and found a necklace beautifully crafted with a turquoise stone embedded to it hidden beneath her clothes.

"You found it!" Cheered Little Jonny.

"And Peter is the killer."

"Now your getting it," Vickie sneered.

"Peter gave her the necklace?" I asked them. "What does it mean?"

"Necklace is a 'no,' a chain would be 'yes'. Freedom no more 'til your dead."

"Wy is his property?" I asked Jonny.

"Yes, yes, yes."

I couldn't unhook the necklace, it was sealed permanently. I couldn't break it, the chain was too strong. "How do I take the necklace off her?"

"For it to fall off her, she would have to die," Vickie told me.

I choked, "What?"

"He belongs to her."

Thanks so much for reading, please review to give your opinion or idea on the story. I'll be trying to update on time, but it'll be difficult since school officially starts tomorrow. Do not fear, I won't abandon this story until its finish!
