Hey everybody! I'm back! Happy to see me updating again? I certainly missed updating. Especially this story, I've written up to chapter eight and I have to say, I really love how it's turning out. I hope you guys like it too. Anyways, here's chapter four!
Chapter Four
After class, I had study hall. I was supposed to have gym, but with a little magic, I found my way into study hall. I didn't mind physical fitness, but the uniforms were disgusting. And I hated sweating.
While I sat in study hall, I worked on opening a mental bridge between Edward and I. He was a mind reader, so, it shouldn't be to difficult. Of course, he was very strong willed as well. It took all my focus to open the bridge.
But finally, I did it. He seemed shocked.
"Hello, Edward."
"What the hell?"
I chuckled to myself, "It's the voices in your head. Wooo," I said teasingly.
"Isabella? H-how are you doing this?"
"Magic."
"Please get out of my head. It's weird."
"You're in everyone else's head, why is this weird?"
He paused for a few minutes, "You make a good point. What do you want?"
"I just wanted to confirm out little get together tonight."
"Yes, we're meeting up tonight. Nine o'clock."
"Good."
"Are you staying in my head now?"
"Nope. I just wanted to pop in for a bit. How's gym class."
"Boring. Can we break this connection? It feels a little… invasive."
"You read people's minds all day. How is this invasive? It's not like you're showering… or doing other things."
"Yeah, well I read people's minds against my will. I can't help it. You've put some spell on me or something. So get out."
"Okay, okay, grumpy. I hope you're not this snappy tonight."
I got out of his head, since he was being so uptight about it. I looked down at my sheet of paper that I had been doodling on. I sighed and balled the sheet of paper up, tossing it into the trashcan.
When I got home, the police cruiser and another unfamiliar car was sitting in the driveway. I wondered what Charlie was doing home so early? And who was this in the driveway?
I walked inside, "Dad?" I called. Had to remember to call him that. For the sake of the person in the house.
"In here, Bella," He called from the living room.
I walked into the living room, wary about the stranger. A man in a wheelchair and a young boy, fourteen, maybe fifteen were in the living room with Charlie. I paused behind the couch, trying to identify who they were.
"Hey, Bella," Charlie said, "This is Billy and his son, Jake."
"Hello, nice to meet you," I said, "I'll be up in my room."
"Okay."
I turned and walked to my room. I couldn't go out to the shed with them here. I'd have to pretend to be human. Hopefully, they wouldn't be here for long. I needed to go see Edward tonight.
I sat at my desk and worked on homework. After about two hours, Charlie knocked on my door. I flicked my hand, opening my door.
"Did they leave?" I asked.
"Yeah, just left."
"Who were they?"
"Just some friends of mine," He said, "They wanted to see how I was doing."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah. Billy's a nice guy."
"How come I've never met him."
"Well, you're part of the reason they wanted to talk to me."
"Me? Whys that?" I asked, the hair on the back of my neck beginning to stand. I didn't like it when people discussed me. It could be dangerous.
"They were just wondering why I had never told them I had a daughter. So, they wanted me to get a paternity test."
I threw my head back and laughed, "Oh my goodness. Really? They want you to do a paternity test? How… caring."
He snorted, "They're concerned. And a little confused. I mean, it is normal for people to wonder why a man who's never been married or even had a long-term girlfriend has a kid that he's never spoken about. They just want to make sure that I'm okay with this arrangement."
I shook my head, "So nosy. Well, I'll be gone by graduation."
Through my mirror, I caught sight of Charlie making a face of disappointment. I was about to ask him if he wanted me to leave, but the clock time caught my attention.
"Oh, I have to go," I said, standing to change, "I'll be home late. Don't wait up for me."
"Where are you going? If you don't mind me asking."
"I'm going to a meeting," I said as I stripped out of my school clothes and into a long black dress, "I want to see what the vampires are doing here. Why they're living like humans."
"Bella, are you sure that's a good idea?" He asked.
"It'll be fine," I said, "He's no danger to me."
"Please be careful. I don't know how'd I'd explain to everyone if you suddenly disappeared."
"Tell them I ran away," I combed my hair, "But I won't disappear. I promise."
"I certainly hope not. I don't know how I'd explain to everyone else. They'd likely hang me."
"Maybe," I smacked my lips together, "How do I look?"
He nodded, "You look good, as always. Is this more than just a little meeting?"
"I always want to look my best. Even if it's for a bloodsucker."
He stood, "Alright, well I'm going to go catch the game. Be careful."
"Will do." I shook my long hair out, making sure I looked decent tonight. I looked better than decent. I looked pretty damn good.
My hands stroked down the length of my sides, loving the tight-laced black dress. I missed New York. I could wear fashionable stuff like this in broad daylight and no one would bat an eye. But I couldn't wear any of my expensive things or else I'd stick out like a sore thumb.
I walked outside in the backyard. I couldn't reach the meadow in my car, it was high in the mountains. I walked further in the woods, not wanted a human to accidentally see me.
Once I was deep enough in the woods and the fear of not being caught wasn't an issue, I closed my eyes. I took a deep breath and focused, thinking about the field.
It was big, beautiful, flowers blooming everywhere. A thick tree line hid the meadow away. The grass was bright green and soft.
I felt a sudden rush and my feet seemed to drop. When I opened my eyes, I was in the meadow. I smiled, looking down at the dirt that had been dug up. It was where Edward had buried me. I kneeled down, my hand stroking the mineral rich dirt.
"What a convenient trick," A voice from behind me said.
I stood, brushing the dirt off my dress, "Magic." I whispered while I waggled my fingers.
Edward chuckled and walked from the trees, "So, you look… dramatic."
"I'm a witch, drama is part of the package."
He nodded, giving me a once over, "You look nice though. I hope you weren't expecting anything other than answers."
"The night is young." I smiled wickedly.
He looked around the wide field, "There's nowhere to sit, I don't mind standing, but I don't want you to be uncomfortable."
"Hmm, I should've brought a blanket or something." I said as I looked around. Conveniently, there were two large stumps from fallen trees. I lifted my hand, uprooting them from the ground and moving them in front of us.
"Take a seat," I said as I sat on the stump.
"Another convenient gift." He said as he sat, "So, how long have you been a witch."
I couldn't help but laugh, "Wow, just dive right into it."
"Like I said, this isn't a date. This is just a meeting."
"And like I said, the night is still young," I smiled and crossed my legs, "I was born a witch. No one becomes a witch. It's very different from being a vampire. What year were you turned? Who turned you?"
"Carlisle turned me in 1918."
I nodded, "Interesting. Were you born in the states?"
"I was. When were you born?"
I took a deep breath. This was a hard question, "Well, I was born before time was counted. I believe it was about 1300's when people started paying attention to the years."
His eyebrows shot up, "Before time was counted? Jeez. That's… crazy."
"It is," I said, "Why are you and your family here? Why don't you drink human blood?"
"We like to move from place to place. To maintain some sort of humanity. Same with the blood. We just don't want to be monsters. Truly, it was Carlisle who showed us the vegetarian lifestyle."
I couldn't help but smile, "That's very kind. I can't recall meeting any vampire that shares the same values."
"Neither have I. Well, except for our cousins in Alaska. But it took us a little bit to persuade them. And it took them a little longer for them to become completely immersed in the lifestyle. Now, why are you here?"
"Same as you I guess," I shrugged, "I'm just pretending to be a teenager in school."
"Is Charlie your father?"
"No. He's not my father, we're not related."
His face filled with confusion, "Then why is he letting you live in his house? Pretend he's your father?"
"I won't answer that," I said; I couldn't reveal my followers. I had to protect them.
"Why not? Is he under a spell?"
"I won't answer it. Move on." I said sternly.
He sighed, "Alright. So, do you have family somewhere?"
"No."
"I'm sorry," he said, "Do you have a coven?"
I licked my lips, blinking away tears, "Please… no talk about families."
He nodded, noticing the stray tear, "I'm sorry. I won't bring it up again." He reached forward and stroked the tear away with his thumb, then smiled at the drop.
"If I keep this, can I have any wish I desire?"
I laughed, "Where did you hear that?"
"A passing myth," he flicked the tear away, "So, why is it that I don't desire your blood anymore?"
"I guess draining me cured you of your lust. I can't be sure. Some mysteries can't be solved." I said.
He smiled, "I'm curious to see all of your powers. You can revive yourself, move things, and be anywhere. What else can you do?"
I smiled widely, "That's for another night. Why don't you show me what you can do?"
"You don't know?" He laughed, "For someone who's been around longer than I have been alive, I thought you'd know everything we can do."
"Oh, I know of your vampiric powers. It was, of course, witches who created your kind," I said, "I'm talking about your… manly, abilities." I placed my hand on his leg and squeezed his knee to show him exactly what I meant.
He put his hand over mine and moved it, "Oh… No."
I leaned back, utterly confused, "W-what do you mean no?"
He smiled, "I mean no. I don't want that."
"You… you don't want me?" I stood, surprised.
He shook his head, "I'm just not that type of person."
My fists tightened, "I need to go."
"Please, I don't mean any offense—," He started, reaching to grab my arm.
I was gone before he could touch me. I was in the woods behind Charlie's house. I stormed off to the shed, hastily moving things out of my way and retreating to my nook. Once I was in, I started throwing things.
He didn't want me? How could he not want me? How dare he! Did he know how lucky he was to have a witch of my status offer herself to him? What an idiot!
I screamed and threw my books across the room.
Edward's POV
Shit. I didn't mean to hurt her feelings. She left before I could explain. I needed to find her. To apologize. It wasn't like I wasn't flattered, but I came from a generation that valued virginities. I was changed before I could find anyone who I had a romantic interest.
She probably went home. I started off in the direction of chief Swan's home. That's where she was the other night.
It took me almost an hour to get to the chief's house. I stood in the woods, listening for Isabella. I could hear loud commotion coming from the shed.
I opened the door. In the corner, was a flickering light. I walked to the large hole. To my surprise, a staircase was descending into the ground.
Slowly, I walked down them. There was a room under the ground. Isabella was standing with her back to me. She was leaning against the table, her head down.
"I-Isabella?" I said gently.
She spun, surprise, "What are you doing here!?" She screeched.
"I-I just wanted to apologize," I said.
"Get out! Get! Out!" She screamed, her hand raised.
Suddenly, my body was thrown back up the stairs. I hit ground. The pile of junk shook, and I rolled out of the way before it fell on top of me. It covered the stairs.
If I really wanted to, I could move the stuff. But I didn't want to bother her. She was angry. It was best not to anger her further.
I realize some people wer icked out by Charlie and Bella having a sexual relationship, but they are in no way related in this story. You'll learn more about Bella's followers as the story continues and you'll realize why Charlie and all the others follow and worship her. I hope you liked this chapter! Please review and let me know what you think!
