Chapter 3: Cold & Dark

As Lily stared at the cage in front of her, she couldn't help but shudder. There were blood stains on the bars. Blood stains. It took all of her willpower to not puke then and there. She took a few hesitant steps forward to get a better look at the cage. But then, the cage door flew open and she was shoved inside. Lily gasped and tried to regain her footing. When she did, it was too late. The door had already closed. So, she did what anyone would do in that situation. The Spring spirit clutched onto the bars, took a deep breath, and…

"LET ME OUT OF HERE!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. She tried to bend the bars, break the door, so SOMETHING. But, alas, it was no use. Her powers wouldn't work here. Lily couldn't think of anything her powers could do. She really is useless. She doubted growing flowers would help in a fight. Why had the Man in the Moon choose her? She couldn't do much. There was no way she could be of much help to anyone. Lily looked around the cage. It looked old and rusty. That's when she realized how physically weak she was. How could she not take down a rusty old cage? She sighed and started thinking about her little situation here. What would Pitch do to her? What did he even want with her? Would he kill her? Enslave her? Or worse? Lily shuddered at the thought. The shudder was followed by a shiver.

The young spirit sat down and curled into a ball, hugging her knees tightly to her chest. She was so cold. It had also gotten darker around her, since the oil from the lamp had run out. Lily couldn't see a foot in front of her. So, she decided to do something which she would really regret later. She fell asleep.

At first, the dream was great. She was sitting in the middle of her forest, surrounded by animals and, oddly enough, the Guardians. They were all playing with the little furry creatures and laughing. Lily was actually having fun. But, then, she turned towards the Guardians and they were all glaring at something. Glaring at her. She flinched under their glares, "W-What is it? What's wrong?" She asked them. Jack scoffed which made her look at him, "What's wrong? You're what's wrong. You're so useless. Why would Manny choose you? Lily R. Clover." He practically spit out her name, "You are of no use to us. You're weak, immature, and just useless. Not to mention ugly." At that, Bunny snorted, "Ya' mate. That muc' 's true." Lily could feel tears welling up in her eyes. But something else was welling up too. Something… evil. She tried to push the feelings back down but… she was being overcome with anger and sadness. And also… Darkness. And for a moment, Lily welcomed it. She welcomed the darkness to come overtake her as she kept listening to the cruel words being thrown at her.

But then, she saw a light through the darkness. It was like a path. And then, she heard a voice.

"Lily!"

"J-Jack…?"
