So, it has been 2 weeks since we left for Raleigh. Pretty slow going because I can only walk for so long at a time but we're doing fine overall. We really should have been there a day or two ago, but it's taking far longer than it should due to our sleep schedule and the fact that it's getting harder to move. One or both of the girl has moved and was laying on what I guessed was my sciatic nerve. It was so painful sometimes, I could hardly walk. On top of all this, Snake's leg is still healing. But it's healing well. At least we have that going for us.

It was about noon when Cry suggested we break. I agreed immediately We all sat down by a nearby car and ate a small portion of our rations. As we did, we strategized.

"Well, we should have been there a day or two ago," Snake said, "So why aren't we, Cry?"

Cry threw up his hands in an innocent display.

"I don't fucking know man, according to everyone I talked to, It takes a week of non-stop walking to reach Raleigh, so if we cut it down to walking 12 or so hours everyday, it cou-"

"It couldn't," Snake intruded, "Scott is too far along for that and you know it. It isn't happening,"

I could see Cry becoming annoyed, not liking to be inturupted. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply.

"I realize this Snake, I'm just saying that if we walked more we could reach it in less than 3 days. But if you want, I have a plan that could get us there by tomorrow," He explained. Snake raised his eyebrow doubtfully.

"...Go on."

It was approximently 3 hours before we found a town. We snuck in quietly as not to be eaten. The plan Cry had devised revolved around all three of us making it. At first, the plan sounded crazy, but after thinking it over it seemed less and less like a death sentence. Cry thought that if we could find a car, we could ride it all the way to Raleigh. Many issues arised if we made it out, but it soon showed that the pros outweighed the cons.

The town was no more than 7 buildings long by 9 buildings wide. It looked lost in a time far passed. The colonial buildings before us stood no less than 2 high with wrap around porches on some. As the breeze blew, the rocking chairs began to sway and doors opened as to welcome the owners that wouls most likely never return. The trees around us bloomed with life in the warming spring sun. Flowers so delicate they looked as though they would break if touched floated their petals down on us and the abandoned town. It was breath taking in its' beauty.

"Wow," seemed to be the only this that we could we could utter. For a moment, we soaked in the sight before us. But only for a moment.

We began our quest. Cry reached into his jacket pockets and pulled out 3 small walkie talkies, handing Snake and I each one.

"If either of you see something or find somthing we could use, contact me through these. Be on the lookout for a good car we can use. We are low on meds and bandages among other things, we'll have to search this place for that. I'll take the right, you guys take the left. Meet me back here in an hour and we'll decide what we should do next. Sound like a plan?" Cry seemed rather in edge despite being in worse situations. I placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Calm down dude, we'll be fine. Lighten up," I chuckled. Cry sighed and smiled.

"I'm fine. I'm just worried about you, all of you," He said as he place a hand on my stomach.

"We'll be fine Cry. I've made it this far with hardly a scratch. I'm untouchable, I'm Superman."

"But I thought I was Batman! Batman can kick Superman's ass!"

"Not a chance man," Cry laughed, the laugh from the streams. An infectious one which soon had me chuckling.

"Alright, one hour guys," he said chuckling, "Promise the wonder twin will be okay?" I smiled.

"Positive."

"Well if you two are done, there's work to do," Snake chimed in. I met his eye, nodded, and returned to his side.

"Later guys," Cry said and headed his way.

"Guess we should get moving," I said. Snake gave a grunt as he held my hand and lead me to the first home.

The first 4 homes we searched had very little in the way of what we needed. We had gathered a roll of bandages and 2 cans by the time we had reatched house numero cinco. It was a two story pink one with those weird gnome things in the dead garden. Snake and I did a once around the house. After we had confirmed the outside was safe, we entered it. it was like stepping back in time. Every bit of furniture, right down to the paintings on the wall matched the house. All the wood throughout the place looking brand new though I'm positive it was original. We headed to the kithen. There we found 3 cans and a box of crakcers. there was some warm water in the fridge that we took along with a pot, some cups, and plates.

Next we headed upstairs. I smelled something funky. Almost like a zombie does fresh, but not exactly. I grabbed Snake's arm and he turned toward me.

"Do you smell that'" I whispered. I saw him crinkle his nose as he smelled the stentch, "Is it one of them?" He shruged his shoulders and tap his knife he picked up from the kitvhen. I immediatly got the hints and pulled out my gun. We climbed the stairs. There were at least 6 doors with only one open. I turned my head to Snake. It was hard to read what he was thinking, but if he was seeing this as I saw it, he was scared. I saw him motion that we should split up. I nodded though I honestly didn't want to, I took the left. I slowely opened the first door fining a bathroom. Snake search the bedroom he'd found while I looked throught the bathroom. I'd found a full med kit. It contained splints, bandages, antibioics, the works. I silently thanked whoever could hear my prayer for this. I emptied the bathroom then moved to the second door. Approaching the room, I noticed the scent got stronger. I held the gun up, switching off the saftey, and tapped the door. Nothing was heard from inside.

'Here we go' I thought. I turned the knob and pushed the door open. Nothing could have prepared me for the sight before me.

A baby, a little baby girl not even 8 months old lay dead at my feet. her insides had been hallowed out and her small tummy torn by vicious, hungry fingers. Her sweet face looked peaceful in death even though she was covered head to toe in blood that didn't look to be all hers. I couldn't even cry out. I merely turned around, took a few steps, and vomited as I fell to me knees. Snake came running.

"What happened Campbell? Are you hurt," Snake sat on his knees beside me. I clung to him as I felt racketing sobs escape me. I simply pointed toward the direction of the room where she was. He glanced over. I felt him stiffen, holding me tighter. I cryed into him chest.

"I-I'm so sorry," He said to no one in particular. I had an idea. I started to calm down enough to talk.

"Can we bury her?"

Snake shot me a suprised look, "Please Sanake, I want her to be okay. I can't just leave her to rot. Just this once, I'm begging you," I pleaded with him. I saw Snake start to understand. We'd seen so much death over these last few months, no being able to help them. This little one was here, but she couldn't be saved. The least I could do is put the sweet child where no one could touch her. I wanted peace for her, she deserved it for what she'd been put through.

"Alright, I'll tell Cry."

We talked to Cry, explaining something had come up and we'd be about 30 minutes late. He asked why. We lied. A basement zombie had showed up. We went to work. Picking up a blanket and washcloth from the closet, I wiped the blood from her small body then took out a handheld sewing kit from my bag and stitched her up using what little skin she had left. I returned to the closet and picked out her best clothes. A pale pink dress was slipped on her body along with soft white socks with frills at the tops. I clipped a bow in her hair. I felt the soft strainds, golden and shining in the afternoon sun. If I didn't know better, I'd would have thought see was sleeping. Tears stung my eyes as she was taken from my arms by Snake.

"Well, isn't she a pretty sight," He said. His voice quivered as he spoke. A tear rolled down his cheek as he held her close, "It shouldn't have been you sweetie, It should have never been you. You poor thing," He was silently crying as he handed here back to me. I sobbed loudly as I cradled her. Snake held us, his tears falling in my hair. I pulled away from him gently. There was still work to be done.

I grabbed her softest blanket and swadled her in it, her face fitting perfectly in the opening. I then grabbed 2 more. I covered her whole body with both, this time hiding her face.

"Sh-She's ready," I squeaked out through my tears. Snake was still crying but he nodded and went out back to dig a hole for her.

"Alright dear, let's find out who you are," I set her down in her cradle and went in search of her birth certificate. She had a baby book sitting in her rocking chair. I picked it up to find her name on the front page. I cried harder when I read it. Julianah Scott, Julie for short, "Oh little Julie."

I searched the house for something to use as her headstone. I eventually found a thick twin bed headboard that would work. I ran to the kitchen and found a knife to carve with. I returned back to the headboard. I carved the following.

Julianah 'Julie' Belle Scott
