Those 100 Things We Do Together

10. Shore -

"Come on, Gary!"

"I can't, Rachel." Gary stepped back, "I might drown."

She looked down at her legs, the water barely reaching her knees.

Gary continued, "Four out of every ten drownings happen within two meters of shore or the pool side. And one-quarter happen in shallow water one meter deep or less."

"I promise, I won't let anything happen to you."

Gary was skeptic, "How?"

She raised her hand for his, "I'll be right beside you."

He opened his mouth, ready to dispute her claim but –

She looked at him, her eyes sincere.

He grasped her hand.

"You promised."

11. Faith -

Rachel was initially very wary of Gary.

Not because of his Ability or – No, not because he was a little more than just a little different.

He had the nerve to expect her to be her - Rachel.

It knocked her off balance.

Her parents expected her to find a man, settle down, and pop out five kids.

Rosen expected her to – to suddenly transform into an assertive woman.

Hicks expected her to be a seasoned field agent – she translated Farsi for the CIA, no shooting involved!

Gary though, he just expected her to say 'hello' to him every morning.

12. Trust

"Who took my sandwich?"

Gary glared.

It was as menacing as a puppy growling.

"The culprit couldn't have gone far," Bill offered.

Gary narrowed his eyes.

"What's up Gary?" Rachel walked in, balancing Chinese food and a diet soda.

"My sandwich has been sandwich-napped."

"Huh," Rachel's eyes glossed over. She inhaled.

"Hey wait, you can have my food, Gary – "

"Hicks."

"Dangit."

Rachel nudged Gary to her office, "We can share my moo-shu pork and you can have Hicks' egg roll too."

"Rachel, my sandwich – Hicks – I'm not allowed to have – "

"Good thing you ate already, Hicks," Nina snorted.
