Natsu stepped out of the iron cage. His usual stylishly tousled hair an authentic bed of frizz. The once tanned man was pale and he looked as if life had beaten him with a whip. Which it had. A horrible whip.
The air in the jail was stagnated and the lemon scented disinfectant did nothing but make him cringe. Jail was never a fun place and Natsu just had 12-hour front row seat to it. The experience was life-changing as in you'd think about how you lived your life up until the present. It was a simple procedure that jail had. Sit. Stare. Think.
That's all he did and he hated every minute of it. Luckily for him, his father had bailed him out otherwise the male would have stayed for a week. A week too long just for being suspected of something he didn't do.
He ignored the heated looks from the other prisoners and stalked towards the bathroom. Zipping down the bright orange jumpsuit he pulled on his clothes from the previous night. A grey cardigan, with black shirt and sweats.
He splashed his face with water to freshen up and ran a wet hand through his messy hair. Gathering the jumpsuit under his arms, he opened the dirty white door and headed down the hallway. Guards glared slightly or didn't bother to look at him as he went along.
Finally he reached the front office where he saw a tall-red haired man. His father Igneel stood there, clad in a professional black suit, his left hand in his pocket and right hand carrying a brown bag.
Walking up to him the first thing his father did was hug him. He returned the gesture, grateful for the rare comfort from his tough father and pulled away after a while.
"You alright son?" his voice was old, rich and comforting.
"Yeah dad" his own voice was raspy because of the lack of hydration. He'd refused to drink jail water because it tasted slightly off. Or maybe it was him being delusional the whole time.
"Drink some water" Igneel took out a water bottle from the brown bag. He greedily opened the cap and drank, happy for some normal water. He could've sworn the water in this jail was slightly green.
Closing the water bottle, he handed it back to his father.
"Well then Chief Conbolt, we'll be going" Igneel nodded towards the dark haired man who looked like he hadn't slept for days with his 5'o clock shadow and heavy eye bags.
"Have a good afternoon Igneel"
The pair proceeded to exit the cement building. The crispy autumn air hit Natsus face and he deeply inhaled then exhaled the cold oxygen. They entered the parking lot towards a classic black Mustang that sat under a shaded tree.
Once inside, Natsu let his head fall back against the soft leather. The male really just wanted to get home and curl up against his bed but he knew he'd have to save that for later. The Dragneels were going to interrogate him first before they'd let him get any shut eye.
"We'll talk when we get home" His father mumbled before roaring the engine to life.
Natsu simply lolled his head forward as an answer and stuffed his hand into his sweats pocket. There in the midst of pocket lint he felt the coolness of the red ring he had picked up previously. The corner of his mouth twitched slightly upwards when he remembered the girl at the store. His mood was already lightening.
"Okay I got your shit done, now you have to do mine" Lucy pointed to Fiore Grocers entrance way ;her face pulled into a firm pout.
After an exceedingly long day at school Lucy had dragged Cana out-ignoring her indignant cries about wanting to go home- and pulled her to the grocery store where she lost her ring.
Instead of wearing a disguise and sneaking in like her brunette friend had said so, she decided to just get Cana to do her dirty work.
Operation : Find The Ring was now under commence!
Lucy watched as Cana sighed and walked towards the entrance.
Inside the store Cana saw the familiar aisles of products and produce. She scanned over the staff to see if there was anyone free to help her. A store worker with odd eyebrows was standing in a corner, broom in hand and popping gum in his mouth.
Cana mumbled something under her breath and walked over to the employee.
"Uhm dude can I see the lost and found bin?" Politeness was not her thing. She squinted to see his name tag. So his name was Hughes.
"Uh like yeah?" It came out as more of a question than an answer. She followed the purple head as he stalked away to the customer service counter. A few minutes afterward, he came out again, a large blue box in hand.
"Like go for it"
Cana wasted no time as she sifted through the piles of old junk that was lost. All she found of value in the box was an old cell phone, a jacket, a box of cotton buds and a some sneakers. But no ring.
Hughes came back after Cana was done. He peered into the box finding all the lost items messier than it had been before.
"Like whoa, you really messed it up. Did you ,like, find what your looking for?"
Cana shook her head, her chocolate hair bouncing slightly.
"What did it, like, look like?"
"It was a silver ring with a rare ruby in the middle"
She watched as Hughes tapped his stubbly chin. He closed one eye before closing the other and repeating the process till he remembered.
"I think I, like, saw a ring like that last night. Some picked it up though."
Cana perked up a little. "Do you know who?"
He shrugged " Some pink bastard that was arguing with me last night. Tch! I had to like clean up so much because of him and some other chick. Like who-"
Cana simply snuck away as Hughes drew into the darker depths of his rant. Exiting the store she walked up to Lucy who looked hopeful. Well it just wasn't her day.
"They don't have it"
Her reaction was immediate. Shoulders slumped and head hung low. She almost looked like a kicked puppy. Cana sighed and grabbed her wrist, dragging her towards the nearby Liquor Store.
"But an employee said he saw someone take it. Some pink haired guy."
"Oh the bastard from last night" Lucy grumbled. Who was this pink-haired bastard that people kept insulting. The pair kept trudging upwards towards the Liquor Store.
"OH!"
Cana -who was slightly ahead of her- stopped at the loud voice of her friend and turned around to see her staring at the various Lacrima TV's through a glass window.
"What?" She came up beside her to stare at the images flashing on the largely sized TV's. On it was a man with pink hair being hounded by paparazzi.
Lucy pointed to the TV screens, her mouth agape. "He's the douche bag I got into a fight with last night. He didn't apologize. oh! You said pink haired guy right? It must be him! Hopefully he has my ring. Where do I find?"
Lucy cupped her chin with her hand in a curious manner. "But what's he doing on TV?"
She turned to look at her friend who looked at her as if she'd seen a ghost.
"L-Lucy you do know who that is right!?" The brunette shook her, head lolling uncomfortably.
"The douche from last night" She shrugged off her desperate hands.
"Lucy that's Natsu Dragneel C.E.O of Dragneel Corporations!"
Lucy blinked airily.
"…..huh?"
