Hey guys! I love popping out these chapters and I love the success this story is! Thank you all so much for your support. I apologize because this chapter is a bit shorter than the others, but I hope you will enjoy it nonetheless. Oh, and I might have a sequel idea! Enjoy!
The bird fluttered to the door of the faded castle. The rocks staggered out of the stormy ocean, a cliche villain vibe coming to mind. Once vibrant colors died out on the walls of the structure. Grotesque vines clawed at the old towers, and bricks stuck out like the buck teeth of a beaver. Narrows halls and beaten windows covered the castle ever since it appeared. It was long ago and Begonia couldn't forget it as he flew to the room in the middle tower. Almost ten years ago. She said it was because of the past and how she was much more than a villain. She said it was because of the treatment she faced years prior. The risks she took and ended up thrown away by her creator. A long story that Begonia understood, as he had the same incident happen to him. The little hummingbird wondered if they ever came from the same creator.
He approached the doors of the room, where two of the monkey skull guards stood firmly. Seeing the faded pink bird, they opened the little window on the door, but not after knocking twice. Begonia thanked the guards and fluttered in quickly. He flew past stacks of drawings and dead flowers that surrounded the room. While soft pastels covered the room, not a pleasant feeling came to the atmosphere- well, maybe just one. But Gene was never unhappy, even as a supposed 'bad guy'. The Boss was sitting on the windowsill, the same outfit as the day before. The number "4" was written on the side in blue chalk- a countdown to their beginning.
As she overlooked the outside, she could sense that the bird that arrived. She always heard the fast fluttering of his tiny wings and the way he excitedly buzzed. Too excited, if The Boss was true to herself, but Begonia was a wonderful companion. There was no way she could get rid of him now.
"Well?" She questioned, hoping to get a speck of good news.
"You were right about one thing," he approached her quickly," There was a big change coming along."
"Details, Begonia," The Boss encouraged," we need to be ready in case-"
"It's the savior!" The hummingbird was nervous to say, but it had to be done.
The Boss glared angrily at the bird. She was nervously waiting for the day it would finally happen. She feared and begged for it all at the same time. She wanted a fight and someone to have actually defended the world. Then again, she pictured the "savior" as a tiny girl with pigtails that would not stop singing those annoying songs that parents hated. In a way, the lady had hoped that she was right.
"Just great," she grumbled and turned her head to the hummingbird," Probably some little kid that wants to meet those princesses."
"Actually, it was a teenage girl."
This peaked the interests of The Boss. A teenager would be a harder battle- but she always loved a challenge. Meanwhile, the bird kept panicking about getting the army ready and if they should stop the stranger before their whole plan was foiled. The Boss perked up and angrily drew herself closer to the bird.
"No!" she exclaimed," Every time I come around, those characters don't believe me. They forget I even exist- but when I picked up that flower, I knew something was changing. I could see it in Mickey's eyes. He knew I was serious- he knew this would be the end if he didn't act fast."
"...Because you killed a flower?"
The Boss rolled her eyes under her mask (though Begonia couldn't tell) and promptly looked back outside. It would all be theirs once the girl failed. The girl looked back at the hummingbird, whose acquaintance had meant (almost) the world to her. He'd been doing his job and that was all that mattered.
"Keep an eye on the girl and anyone that comes along with her," she ordered,"Alert me if there's anything we need to be worried about."
The bird nodded and sped off, hoping to help the cause anyway he could. The Boss leaned back against the window and sat with content. She had to admit that this was the happiest she felt in a long time.
"This is gonna be-"
"Perfect!"
The Boss grumbled as she looked behind her. Gene was too rambunctious for her liking. His colors always stayed on his lederhosen, with yellow lining and bright green features. He looked like a typical German boy from a fairy tale that two brothers would tell. His small stature and fluffy red hair sparked The Boss's interests in their first meeting. He had been a discarded character and, yet, he was still cheerful and vibrant in color. As the years went on, however, she found the little German boy to be annoying.
Gene waddled over to The Boss. He skipped with a smile on his face, and up to the girl.
"What is it, Gene?" She sighed.
"I just vanted to come by to see if you got the news about-"
"The new savior, yes I heard. I thought they would never get one."
"Yah! Me either- I think it took over a century for this moment to finally happen! Unexpected, but I love a good surprise!"
"You and I both," The Boss glanced back to the little German boy," Gene, are you sure you're ready for the battles we're gonna face?"
"Of course!" he squealed," Anything to protect my best friend!"
The Boss sighed, but she could never stayed too annoyed with Gene.
Meanwhile, back at the kingdom, Begonia had sailed back from the castle and into the bushes. He could see the girl and her animal companions a mile away, but he needed to be stealthy. After all, a lot was depending on these moments. So, without much noise, Begonia snuggled his way into the leaves and watched carefully as the hero walked without a care in the world.
