I didn't finished Part V, but I was bored and didn't really update this story for almost a month so I decided too. Besides, I find publishing-schedules a bit stressful, and I guess some FFwriters agree.

This is another Lite&Aenae (notice the lack of /) part. Though everything is a bit out there and separate from each other so far (except for Herobrine connection), I promise everything falls together and connects eventually.

Now I present Part IV!

Part IV - Screams in the Dark

Screams in the Dark

Even though it was morning.

No matter how far away Lite was, I could hear screams. Screams, a terrible sound. Screams mean fear and pain. Screams usually the last words escaping the mouth of the dying. There was lots of screams when the guy called Herobrine destroyed my village. I screamed when I saw a zombie eat my daddy and my mommy sliced in half. They screamed. I screamed.

Screams in the dark.

Though Lite was screaming his last, I stayed quiet and still as he ordered. I did for a long time after he stopped screaming. Tears came from my eyes. He was dead, I knew by now. The guy called Herobrine chased him deep into the woods with a blue-orange sword. Lite screamed. Lite is probably dead.

I stared up at the sky for a long time, quiet and still. The sun was past the noon point when I couldn't stay quiet and still anymore. Quietly, I slipped out the tree and slowly put my feet to the ground. I had the wooden sword, smaller than Lite's, and his fishing pole. My stomach was hungry and my daddy had showed me how to fish. I saw Lite fishing yesterday. I can do it. For food.

I whip around the fishing line but it get lodges in a tree. After some effort, I untangled the fishing rod. I gently put the bobber into the river water and waited. Finally, I felt a tug. Quickly I pulled out a small, floppy, yellow fish with blue fins. Daddy had always given those to the potion brewer, but I was so hungry I ate it raw. Then I began walking west, where Lite said there was a settlement.

It was fine. At first.

Not long later, my belly grumbled and my mouth watered. Slowly, it became harder to walk and I began feeling sickly. My body began to double over in pain, mostly in my stomach.

"Bad fish…" I muttered as I fell over, too weak to continue. I teeter, then slump into unconsciousness.

When my eyes open, its night.

A vile smell immediately hits my nose. I get up and wobble, my mind feels like its been stuffed with wool and my legs broken. I get up and hug a tree, trying to regain eyes pool with tears and I wonder how long I can actually survive.

"Find settlement," I say "West."

But not now, as it is night time. Night time is when everyone rushes in. Night time is when monsters wander around. Night time is also scream time.

The tree I hug is too smooth and branchless to climb, but I don't dare move. Monsters are probably waiting for Minecraftian movement to attack. For as long as I can, I clutch the tree, smelling something vile, pressing my face against a rough tree, holding onto my wooden sword and fishing rod until I heard something hiss.

I don't dare move. I heard another hiss. One after another. The creeper want me to turn. It could just blow me up now. Creepers are a block and a half bigger than me. I don't want to turn and look at it.

I don't know how long until I hear the rising begin to recede. Thinking the creeper is leaving at morning, I turn.

Its still dark. Its still night. The creeper's dark eyes glare at me. But it isn't alone.

The guy called Herobrine pets the creeper's head and smiles. The guy called Herobrine's eyes is like a lamp lit in darkness.

I scream.

He chuckles. "I thought I got rid of the last one but I think I was wrong." He whips out his diamond sword. He gently casts an invisible line across my bare, still neck. The slight exposure to the heat makes my neck the feeling of fire.

"A little girl, hardly five or six I assume. Injured her hand in my raid, am I correct?"

He wants me to answer. The guy called Herobrine and his creeper towers over me by a block, at least, and both can kill me with a flick of movement. I nod.

The guy called Herobrine's sights fall to my wooden sword and fishing rod in my hands. He reaches for them and snatches. I don't protest.

"Not much need for this anymore." In his palms, the tools begin to slowly burn to black and gray ashes. The guy called Herobrine smoothes the ashes across my face and blonde hair. I begin to sob.

"Oh please, don't whine, little girl. This will be quick and painless for you. Or not."

The guy called Herobrine lashes his diamond sword across my left thigh. My screams in the dark echo through the forest, cutting off every other noise. Then the guy called Herobrine steps out of blast range, allowing the creeper to blow up in my face in blinding light.

"Aenae. Aenae please listen. Your screams have not been ignored. I'm here and you're alright. I am here with you."

When I come to, I'm a pit of mud. Rain drowns my face, soaking me in the near darkness. But I can tell its sunrise.

I can't move, feeling paralyzed and cold, but only for a moment. I find myself sitting up and looking around. Rain makes my vision distorted, making me think whether the figure in front of me is real or not.

Its transparent, but in color. Minecraftian shaped, but hovering by a half block. Suddenly, I was able to see more of its features, though its still transparent. Lanky brown hair, brown eyes, skin perfectly sand-colored-

It's Lite.

I'm standing then about to fall, but Lite catches me. He leans me against a different tree and whispers, "You okay?"

I nod, unable to find my voice.

"We have to get you to safety," Lite said.

"But…" I creak "But… I thought you dead!"

Lite nods. "I am dead."

"Gho-ghost?"

"Yes. Please, shush, we need to get you started."

"No. Explain."

Lite's eyes close and his head fell. "I don't even know all the facts," he began "Only, I know Herobrine killed me and you, only you came back to life."

"I died? Came back to living?"

"Yes. When I realized that, I left the Aether so I can be with you. You're the last one of the village Light, and you're five years old. You won't last long alone in the woods, I'm afraid. Especially if Herobrine finds out you're alive, so you must stay quiet if he's lingering."

I only nodded.

"Lucky you at least survived, Aenae," Lite said "I mean, not that I don't like being dead, but its better than being able to be victimized by Herobrine, once again. You can at least see me, only those who've died and come back to life or given the power can see and communicate with the dead. Now, we need to get you started."

"On?"

"Survival, until we get you to the westward settlement you need to know things. First off, you must be hungry. I noticed some pigs nearby so you'll need to know about a sword…"

This sword was longer than the last one since Lite took the liberty of using the whole tree. I had a wooden pickaxe, sword, shove, and axe to carry around. Lite offered to help me with anything else. Soon we were on our way west, me limping along because of my leg, to the settlement Lite doesn't even know much about. Only he knows its a ways off.

After a while, I dared to ask him something.

"Do know screams in dark?" I asked.

Lite stopped and looked at me with transparent brown eyes. "No one really uses that term, but I know. Screams in the dark, I know a lot about, unfortunately. When night falls-"

"Screams in the Dark."
