Chapter 4

Natasha sat quietly to herself with the wedding picture in her hands as the men looked around the office they were now locked in. She still wasn't able to wrap her mind around the fact that she and Steve would get married and have a child. But what hit her the most was what Steve had said at the end of the topic.

"Guess it's pretty clear now."

Was this moment meant to happen? Was she suppose to somehow end up in this situation in order to learn what her future held for her? Was it meant to be a way to make sure that James would be born? Was James that important?

"Can you believe this?" Clint half muttered. "Steve Rogers, president of the United States and now director of SHIELD."

"Something big is probably going to happen in order for him to take office." Bruce figured. "After all, when was the last time that a super hero was president?"

"Good point." Clint agreed. "He must have done some pretty amazing things for everyone to want him to run for a second term."

"He saved the world during World War Two and then did the same thing with us against Loki. Makes sense that he would be the greatest president in U.S. history." Tony said. "I wonder if he let me be in charge of anything."

"Steve was asked to run again. Not be impeached." Clint remarked with a smirk.

"Oh funny."

"Look at this picture." Bruce pointed out. It was a picture of Steve and Thor standing on an imprint in the ground. A symbol they had seen before when Thor used the bifrost to travel between Earth and Asgard.

"Says that this was the first day that Thor became an ambassador. The bifrost now allowed people from Earth and Asgard to travel between one another. Came to an end when some people from Earth tried to break into Thor's palace to get their hands on some of the more powerful weapons."

"Typical. Just one bad idea and someone ruins the fun for everyone." Tony said.

"Probably just as good." Bruce said."I don't think that Earth could survive an attack from Asgard. Even if Thor tried to calm his dad down."

"I wonder if we went to Asgard." Clint said.

"We were probably the first to do it." Bruce stated.

"And look here." Clint said pointing to another picture of the Avengers. They were now standing in what appeared to be a throne room.

Steve and Natasha were standing to the right; Natasha holding what appeared to be a newborn infant in her arms. Tony, Clint and Bruce were standing to the left. Everyone was wearing what looked to be their best clothes.

In the center of the group stood Thor who looked to be wearing a crown.

"This says that this picture was taken the day that Thor became king of Asgard." Bruce said. "We must have been there as guests of honor."

"Seems that Capsicle isn't the only one who's going to have an interesting life ahead of him." Tony said. "I wonder if Pepper and I get hitched."

"I would hope you do." Clint said. "You've kept her waiting long enough as it is."

"Natasha, you alright?" Bruce asked. "You're kinda quiet."

"Wouldn't you after finding out what your future holds?" Natasha replied. "All my life I've told myself that love is for children and I had never been able to get pregnant before. Now I learn in less than an hour that I'm going to one day marry Captain America and have his child."

"I see." Bruce said. "We're still in the dark about what's going to happen to us but you just basically learned the most important things. Like it was pre-set for you."

"I can't change any of it." Natasha stated. "If I do then there's a chance that James could never be born. I can't erase him from existance and possibly mess up other things along the way."

"So when we go back, you're going to get with Steve?" Clint asked.

"Have to."

"I don't mean to sound harsh but, I guess this Steve was right. When you think about it, the only reason that you and Steve get married and have a child is because you already knew it was suppose to happen." Clint said.

"Well, unless I talk to my future self, we'll never know if I ever really do fall in love with Rogers or not." Natasha pointed out.

"Think we'll see your future self?" Tony asked.

"Maybe. Steve and James did say that she's in Europe right now." Bruce said.

A second later, the door opened and Steve walked in.

"Ok. Small change of plans. All of you will have to stay at my house for a while." he announced.

"What? Why?" Tony asked.

"Your future counterparts are heading here for a sudden meeting and I cannot risk any of you running into each other."

"I already saw myself and I didn't like it." Clint pouted.

"We were all surprised that you started wearing suits when the moment happened." Steve said with a smirk. "So, in ten minutes, I'll take all of you to the quinjet and an escort will take you to my families private home. Feel free to look around and make yourselves comfortable. I don't have anything there that will give away too much abour your lives to come. James is going as well to help keep an eye on everything. He's a lot more skilled than he looks so don't make any assumptions."

"If he's your son, we already knew that." Clint declared with a grin.

"Good. He's mastered a lot of the tricks you taught him and in return he taught you a few." Steve replied.

Within no time, the time traveling Avengers found themselves standing in a futuristic quinjet where James had been waiting for them. The younger man tried to keep from making eye contact with Natasha but Steve said it was alright if he spoke with her. He just couldn't reveal too much to her.

"What company made this jet?" Tony asked.

"Yours, of course." Steve answered casually which made Tony smile happily.

The pilot came on board and announced for everyone to take their seats.

"Ok. I'll see all of you in a few hours." Steve said then turned to his son. "Keep a real close eye on your Uncle Tony and Clint."

"Uncles?" Tony and Clint repeated and looked at each other as Steve left with a chuckle.

"I see all of you as my aunts and uncles." James answered as he took his seat.

"Do our kids do the same?" Clint asked casually.

"Nice try." James replied with a smirk. "And just so you know, I called ahead and asked the servants to hide your family pictures that you gave us. They'll all be hidden by the time we get there."

"Yep. You are the son of your mom and dad." Clint stated. "Can you at least tell us who your godparent's are?"

James lighty smiled.

"You and Aunt Pepper."

Natasha lightly smiled when she saw the surprised and shocked looks on Tony and Clint.

"How in the world did he become your godfather instead of me?!" Tony exclaimed.

"There you are." Natasha declared as Steve entered the conference room. "Where have you been?"

"Taking care of some rather unusual business." Steve answered as he sat down.

"Where's James?" Natasha asked.

"I sent him home for a while." Steve answered.

"He do something bad?" Clint asked as he loosened his tie.

"No."

"So, why'd you send him home?" Natasha asked. "He's got that training with the others today."

"I told them that it was called off." Steve replied.

"What aren't you telling us, boss man?" Clint asked.

Steve lightly sighed but smirked.

"Remember your little 'Vegas' trip?"

"This place makes my Malibu mansion looks like a tool shed." Tony pouted as the jet stopped and they were let off.

"This is our home?" Natasha asked.

"The private one. There's two more. You thought of the other two and we use one of them as a safe house." James explained and they entered the house.

"That's it. I'm redecorating the tower and my mansion." Tony declared when he was taken back by the sheer beauty of the chateau.

"You really do sound like yourself, Uncle Tony."

"So, I'm still kicking?"

"Dad will probably be upset I let it slip but, yeah. You are."

"Do I have a head full of grey hair? Do I have a head of hair?"

"Yes. You still have hair but Aunt Pepper claims that you dye your hair because it's still black."

The group moved into the living room and Natasha right away spotted a large family painting of her future family. Herself, Steve and James.

"Come on, kid. Tell us something." Clint urged as they sat.

"Can't. Dad said you saw yourself back on the helicarrier and that should have been enough for you."

"I didn't like what I saw." Clint stated.

"Guess you can't tell us we have kids?" Bruce guessed.

"Right. I can't."

"Something tells me we do though." Tony said. "If you really are anything like your old man, you're bad at lieing."

"Don't try it." Natasha lightly warned.
