~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Chapter 4 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Naruto looked out the window of the golden carriage that made its way to his new school. The clouds flouted by as the flaming blue horses pulled forward making light soft bells sounds whenever their hooves touched the air.
It was strange for Naruto to hear that instead of the click clock sounds that horses make while walking but it had been pretty amazing to watch Zazu – one of the royal guards- light a fire in front of the carriage then with a flick of the warrior's wrist the flames moved taking the shape of horses making no sound during the process.
It hadn't even taken seconds for four elegant horses to stand proudly before them, their blue fire burning in different directions but at the same time not once did the flames get out of the main shape of the creature ,only their mane lifted into the air as one would see on a candle do, followed the laws of gravity.
Zazu had grinned at his awe struck expression, promising Naruto that, fuego the art of flame control, would be covered in the elective Apparition of the Elements. Zazu had strongly suggested that he should take the class even if most young a day demons believe it boring.
"Kids these days can't see how much history runs and controls our lives. They have no respect for the old ways but that is what makes the old ways useful! If no one knows how to do a certain skill but one single person then that skill becomes rare. Remember young Master Uzumaki, new is great but it must have some foundation; it must have some part of the old to work. The more you know of the old the more you can build on the new!" Zazu had said while loading the caballos -as he called the burning blue beauties - into the rims, stating that his flames could take any form as he was always reading his history books late at night.
The guard's fox ears and tail were brown; matching the older than his appearance male's eyes and hair. All royal guards wore the same uniforms that were a cross between a samurai armor and tight metal bounding which resembled bandages that ran along their enter body. The higher up you were in the guarding position the brighter your red uniforms were just like every other jobs in the castles. The exception to that was the personal maid who wore dark red clothing but was the only ones that had blood red on it.
A sign that they would serve till the last drop of blood left their bodies, the personal maids were completely loyal to the core.
With a light wise grin Zazu had led the caballos away after receiving a small nod from Naruto claiming that the creatures would need a day to be strong enough to pull the carriage to his destination without burning the whole thing by doing so.
Naruto didn't tell Zazu but those words had inspired him. They were filed away in his heart along with his ninja way, where the words of demon would inspire Naruto to keep going no matter what the challenge was.
That had been on the second day of Naruto's stay at the castle when Zazu made him realized how wisdom could be found anywhere as long as he was willing to look. So looking he went.
For the rest of that day Naruto and Akane- who had to stay with him seeing as Kurama needed to catch up on all the duties he couldn't do from his long absences- had visited every inch from top to bottom of the castle. Meeting the servants, the cooks, the guards and the advisers that lived there, Naruto had started to learn things that were so simple but at the same time useful from the people he met.
For example Asumi – the head cook - had taught him to make vegetables more enjoyable one had to cook them in non fat oil, it would take away the taste but not the nutrition, then all you had to do was wait till the greens dried up so that most of the oil fell off, and finally add some nuts to give it some taste.
It had to be the only time in his life that Naruto enjoyed eating healthy seeing as it was the first time that most of the food wasn't spoiled plus the chiefs all allowed him to stay and watch them work. Some even gave him cooking lesions both for when he had a kitchen and when he didn't.
Asumi was tall with the perfect figure, and even though she had long black hair topped with black fox ears and black tail Naruto still thought she was the prettiest girl he ever laid his eyes on, an opinion that most males in the castle agreed on.
He had meet one of the advisers named Dachi who was just as hot headed as he was, teaching Naruto how to drown out all that was around him in order to think clearly when studying a important paper. Dachi said it would be a while before Naruto could take one look at a paper and find the hidden meaning of every word, saying meditation didn't work for Dachi ,after all the fox demon man couldn't keep still.
He was sure Naruto was going to have the same luck however there was something close which Dachi found that had helped him keep calm during the process.
It was how Naruto found out that sitting in a mediation form while throwing two to three bouncing balls against the wall with his eyes closed allowed him to meditate but still move his restless body. Naruto couldn't catch the balls with his eyes close like Dachi but it did help him. The man was tall with red spiky hair and green eyes; his face was always bright with a grin.
It amused Naruto to find Dachi's rust red fox tail fizz out and his red dusted with some white fox ears, to twitch whenever the adviser would happen to get a glance of the beauty know as the head cook.
It was how they had met after all, when Naruto walked out of the kitchen from his cooking lessons for a good dinner and happen to spot the hot head adviser drooling at the site of Asumi bending over for tomatoes.
Blackmailing the older man with the threat of telling Asumi about his feelings had created a friendship that Naruto couldn't think about losing.
Asumi reminded Naruto of his relationship with Ayame however unlike the waitress, the cook had asked everything and anything about his life claiming him too cute to not know everything. It was almost like having a sister who didn't care that they had only meet a day before, while Dachi was a older yet at the same time younger brother who understood the fact that sitting still was a "pain in the tail" and Naruto found they were similar in many ways.
Dachi had too been the dead last of his class, told that he would never succeed in life and yet the fox man never gave up; now he was one of the royal advisers who got to see the King on a daily bases, a proud claim that not even the royal guards had the glee to say.
Naruto had a little saddens when he was it was time to leave but Kurama had promised that his new friends would be allowed to visit him on Guest Day, at the school. After all even if it is a boarding school of the highest class demon mothers needed to see their babies every other month so they just made it into a day of inviting anyone who knew the student to the school to pass a weekend with said student.
Naruto felt his stomach flip when he thought of being left alone in a place he didn't know, but he tried to hide it from the others in the carriage.
"Naruto calm down. It's not going to be scary or cruel it's just school. Trust me it's going to be fine" Kurama said after noticing Naruto small left hand twitch. The fox king knew how the whiskered boy hid his emotions since he had seen Naruto's whole life through said boy's eyes after all.
The blond boy turned from the widow to look across the seat at Kurama grinning cheerfully "What are you talking about Kur? I'm fine!"
"Please do not lie in our faces so bluntly Uzumaki-sama. We know you are nerves." Akane said from sit next to him. Her white hair bounced with the light that filled the carriage. Even though she was his personal maid, Naruto hated the fact that she was supposed to treat him with formally that one would give to a noble man.
He had tried to get her to call him Naruto, or even Naruto-sama but the girl did not budge from Uzumaki-sama. The girl had been his silent shadow speaking when he needed something or when she thought it fit to help him even going as far as answering in one word sentences when he talked to her. Not once did she leave his side even slept outside his door at night, making Naruto feel like instead of a maid fallowing him it was an ANBU that was under orders to stay silent, unless spoken to, only difference was you could see her following the blond boy around.
The blued eyed boy didn't like the way she treated him but no matter how many times he tried to get her to behave with him like she would with everyone else, Akane would frown at him and say "unacceptable" that being the end of that.
Even if she only talked one word per sentence Naruto had build a strong friendship with the quite girl.
"I'm not lying! I swear I'm just-"
"WE ARE HERE! PLEASE PREPARE FOR LANDING!" One of the guards yelled from the outside. They were each on their own horse escorting them to the school.
Before Naruto could finish his sentence the carriage suddenly dived down at a terrifying speed.
The wind whipped around them shaking the carriage making it seem like they were suddenly sucked into tornado spinning out of control. The calm ride turn into a rollercoaster that had its tracks break at the highest drop collapsing towards the ground just as the riders would put their arms in the air to enjoy a thrilling ride which turned out to be their death trap.
The seat he sat on rocked back and forward while the wind started to blow harder, practically throwing the whiskered boy across from where he sat.
Naruto gripped the seat in fear knuckles turning white, his mouth open in a silent scream, eyes wide he looked over at the other two passengers who….
Kurama looked at a piece of his hair that had fallen in his face wondering if he should get a haircut while Akane sat perfectly still staring blankly at the wall opposite of her.
The other two passengers who couldn't careless that they would fall to their death in a few seconds
Just as Naruto's stomach was going to let everything he ate out the ride suddenly came to a sudden stop. The world became quit once more and the wheels were again on the ground slowly moving forward as the caballos tried to slow down after hours of running.
When the gold carriage ended up at a giant black gate, all of the guards dismounted their own horses and quickly lined up before the gate each placing themselves in order by color the darkest shade of red at the beginning of the line that was furthest from the carriage while the brighter shades were all before the front of the carriage.
Zazu, who wore the brightest red, ran to the carriage door opening it, held out his hand waiting to help the passengers get off. Keeping his head bowed, Zazu felt someone's soft hand take his.
Akane took graceful steps down the three stepped stairs, her stoic expression melting slightly when she glanced at the warrior giving him a small grateful smile before schooling her figurers once more. When her foot touched the ground she imminently turns to the other side of the door and bowed her head waiting for Naruto to step out missing the lingering brown eyes of the guard as he slightly lifted his head. His eyes burning into the top of her head, his right hand tingling.
A green faced Naruto got off next not noticing the hand that was out for him for he was too busy trying to make the world stop spinning. Practically running down the steps Naruto throw himself on the ground with a cry of joy and relief.
"OH HOW I LOVE YOU GROUND! I'LL NEVER LEAVE YOU AGAIN!" The boy yelled out as he tried to hug the concrete before him, looking completely strange to the demons that were used to flying wondering if the human had gone insane.
Perhaps humans couldn't handle air travel? After all there were those stories in which most of the humans would say "If men were meant to fly, they would have been born with wings" so there was the possibility that humans needed to grow wigs and then fly! After all humans were almost like fairies just bigger and wigless so perhaps fairies and humans were somehow connected! Though the blond child currently trying to gather most of the ground in his arms didn't have wings yet….
Maybe Naruto needed to hit puberty in order to get his wings?
Before they could really ponder this however Zazu yelled "bow before his greatness! Behold the King of the Foxes!"
Remembering that – as tradition the best was save for last so the King always came after the least important passengers - they quickly bowed before falling to one knee as the King stepped out. Not one lifted their heads waiting for the King to allow them.
Kurama stepped out with a grace one would expect of a noble. Each step a musical calculated move, eyes and back straight, hair not even bouncing truly the Fox Lord's walk caught all attention, not a sound could be heard throughout the people present, nature unnaturally quite. He even seem to walk in slow motion …well until he spotted Naruto in his path that is, then everything returned to normal while Kurama's eye twitched. "What the heck are you doing on the ground for kit? Don't you want to make a good impression on grandmother Fukuro?"
Naruto at that point stopped trying to hug the ground and quickly stood. He turned pointing an accusing figure at Kurama
"You knew we were going to land like that and didn't give me so much as a warning!" cried the boy his motion sickness forgotten in favor of blaming someone for the rough landing he had.
Kurama waved away the boy's hand with an uncaring expression "You're a ninja. You should be prepare for the unexpected at anytime. Not my fault you are not good at your life career."
The fox king said the ending with a taunting smirk, amusement in his eyes to show he really didn't mean what he said merely enjoyed getting a rise out of Naruto, like he had been doing so for the past three days. Though no one would say it out loud, the people at the castle would swear the two really were brothers by the way they contently teased one other. And constantly fought, about the small things
"Why do I need to take a bath?! I took one yesterday!
"Cause you stink that's why!"
"Hey that's MY cookie! Don't you dare-!"
"Munch. Munch!"
"YOU BRAT! SPIT IT OUT!
"NEVER! MA HA HA HA!"
"ROOOOAAARRR! DIIIIEEEE!"
It had left many demons started with how much of the castle was destroyed that day over a human's revenge for being forced to take a bath, by eating the king secret addiction: cookies. No one touched the king's cookie jar, it just didn't happen.
Scowling Naruto turned away sulking at the king's words, ignoring the chuckling of the guards who were still on one knee in respect. He crossed his arms angrily but his heart really wasn't in it as he gazed upon the gates. They were a magnificent sight, colored black though depending on the angel he stood at he could see different colors bouncing off of the metal. They rose up a good ten feet and had small vines carved into them. At the side of the gates were two pillars topped with a statue of a strange flower.
The gate looked to be the only way into the island as a giant wall, rivaling the one in the Sand village, ran around the place filled with the images of different animals in the same coloring as the gate. Naruto let his eyes linger on the wall naming the animals he knew.
A lion, tigers, wolfs, butterflies, giraffes, dogs, cats, hippopotamus, birds and so much more. Even animals he never seen before like one seemed to be a cross between a bear and monkey, each holding some kind of jewel. The jewel seemed to have the most color out of the whole image.
The sounds of horses could soon be heard on the other side of the gate, snapping his attention from the wall. The blond boy gave on last glance to the images carved into the sides before then turning his stare on the door gate, shocked to see nothing beyond it.
How did I not notice before?! I mean I can't even see the ground in there! Thought the blond boy referring to the fact even though the door was made of black metal resembling a cell the other side is completely white. No ground or sky could be seen, almost like there was nothing on the other side at all.
While Naruto had been busy admiring the scenery, Kumara had raised his voice "you may stand."
The guards stood at the same time, before forming a protective circle around the group of three completely blocking Naruto's view as the gate doors swung opened. He could only make out bits and pieces of the conversation the royal guards have with whoever came out to greet them.
"What business do you have here?" a man's voice ringed out
"We had an appointment with grandmother Fukuro." Zazu answered
"Who wishes to speak with her?" this time it was a female rather young sounding maybe late teens question.
"You do not have the clearance to know just tell her, he is highly above on the social ladder in the fox kingdom" Zazu once again answered though with the way he put extra enthusiasm on the king in kingdom, probable gave away who had come since the disbelief silence stretched on and on.
It kind of annoyed the only human boy there to not know what exactly was going on as every time he moved to look the guards adjusted their position placing them right in front of him, keeping him completely out of view with their bodies. Scary how they could do that without turning around, or talking to each other though, knowing when and where to stand even stepping in front or behind each other.
Before Naruto could comment however he felt a hand suddenly push him from behind completely taking him by surprise as he stumble forward for balance. The royal guards moved at the last second just as he would have fallen right into them, stepping aside letting him through.
He ended up two or three inches away from his whiskered face greeting the ground once more if it wasn't for Akane's fast reflects as she held a death grip on his kimono, pulling him back until his feet touched solid floor again then turned him around to face her searching for any sign of injury. Green eyes flashing with worry before relaxing when she realized the blond had not gotten hurt.
All of this was done in five seconds flat. Talk about speed….
Letting out a relief sigh Akane let him go, her stoic expression back as she scolded "Be more aware."
From his experience with the girl Naruto knew this was her way of saying "DON'T YOU DARE EVER SCARY ME LIKE THAT AGAIN! PAY ATTENTION!" as she would ever get. It was also the most emotion he had seen in her from the last three days.
Giving her a sheepish grin he rubbed the back of his head "sorry, someone pushed me and- WAIT! Kurama, what the hell was that for!?"
He screams upon realizing the chuckling fox man had been the one who had pushed him, pointing an accuse figure at the king. This only led to Kurama letting out a round of laughter choking on his words "you should have - ha ha ha - seen your face-ha ha ha looked so scared! Ha ha ha – I mean you – looked so serious! HA HA HA "
At this point the rest broke off into mad laughter that orange head tended to do from time and time due to being locked up by himself all alone for so many years in the human world. He needs to get use to being around others again but no demon pointed it out as they were used to a quite Kurama who never really talk and frankly this Kurama was just refreshing. Not to mention entertaining.
"What did you say!?" screamed Naruto outraged preparing to attack the orange haired man who was grinning at him with a familiar mad tint in it holding his hand up, moving his index and pointer finger in a "come on" motion at him.
"Kurama Sage! Is that any way to behave?" Came a firm woman voice from behind Naruto stopping them both before things got serious, and they once again have a "friendly" spar.
Kurama immediately stopped laughing, his face crumbling into one of shame like that of a small child when being yelled out by their parents. He even lowered his eyes to the ground before mumbling "No it isn't"
Turning around Naruto took in for the first time a group of three standing on the other open side of the door. A big buff dark haired, dark eyes man, who seems to be a human but a large part of him was gorilla held a larger sword which remaindered Naruto of Zabuza's, the man had a bemused expression as he started back at him. Gorilla man couldn't be older than twenty. A girl, no older then seventeen with beautiful butterfly wings had her hands on a spear, when he turned his gaze to her, she blinked as their eyes meet then widen as she couldn't seem to find what she was searching for.
However the woman that was between the two had obvious been the one to speak. She seemed the oldest, perhaps in her early thirties, and Naruto was fascinated with how human her face seemed but still resembled a owl yet not overly so. The feathers framing the head were there however not a complete owl stared back just a woman with large yellow eyes behind a pair of glasses a small beak and hair also made out of feathers.
All three were dressed in black and silver clothing though they were not wearing the same outfit. The man had on a silver muscular shirt, black combat pants and black combat boots, while the girl wear a tiny tight black dress which ended just above her thighs, silver frills ran throughout the thing. Both clothes clashed with owl lady's black business outfit, made up by a black jacket, a silver shirt and a black skirt which reach her knees.
After realizing he been staring Naruto quickly turn away.
That was when he notices Kurama getting a taken to by the owl lady. "-quite childish. Honestly, you are a king now Kurama, not a freshmen who almost fail his history class! Behave yourself understand? I would prefer you not back in my office so soon. Again."
She finished with a raised eyebrow her arms crossed before her, giving Naruto's brother a look making the Fox Lord squirm a little before nodded then blurting out "Yes madam. Sorry madam. I'll behave madam."
She gave him one last look then her eyes moved off the nervously twitching King to the blond child who was giving her a once over himself. Their eyes held contact for a good minute not one backing down or blinking away. The rest stayed silent somehow knowing they were not disrupted the stare off.
Huh, that is a first she thought watching as the boy's bright blue eyes held stubbornly Most tend to look away by now. If not they start twitching at the least…..interesting indeed.
Without taking her eyes off Naruto she addressed Kurama "Is this my newest student?"
Clearing his throat the Fox king placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder – who choose to ignore it in favor of staring at women before him - his expression melting into one of a proud family member, a grin threaten to rip his face in two "Why yes he is. Grandmother Fukuro, this is my younger brother Naruto Uzumaki, the new transport student. "
Fukuro grinned right back all traces of a serious woman gone instead stood a woman who truly send vibes of a loving mother or grandmother. She even ran forward, faster then what Naruto could react to and brought him into a hug. Practically squealing she said "It's very nice to meet you Naru-chan! Welcome to my school, Domain of Demons!"
Now normally this would be about the time Naruto would have been starting to wonder what was going on, maybe even freak out that someone actually hugged him because they wanted to, or get anger over the fact he had been called "Naru-chan" but he wasn't instead for the first time in his life the kyuubi vessel, just calmly let a random woman swing him around and around taking note of others reactions.
It had been on the third day early afternoon when Dachi had run to him claiming he knew the problem with Naruto's "stupidity". At the time he had been trying to read the handbook of the new school he would be attending the next morning finding that it was just as hard as the work he did back in the ninja academy. For the life of him Naruto didn't know why he couldn't learn from books, why it was so easy to learn difficult things in mere hours while they would normally take someone else weeks or months to do just as long as it was something physical.
He learned the reason that afternoon.
Turns out, his chakra or as Dachi had called it, living energy, was so too much. It needed a way to be released somewhere, anywhere, so that it would not over use his brain. However because Naruto didn't have a way to keep his life energy/ chakra under control it travel around his body contently nearly burning him in the process. Making it hard to focus or remember things for the young blond in fact Dachi had even said this proved Naruto a genius. Apparently if it was anyone with a normal brain capacity they would have undoubtedly be uneven able to remember their own names.
It was Naruto level of intelligence which kept him functioning so far.
The hothead adviser and Naruto had spent a good three hours together trying to find a way to let Naruto's chakra from moving without spiking it, ending up with letting his chakra stop at the points in his body like a dam, and for the first time ever Naruto could read and remember what he read. He even understood the rules but more importantly why those rules were especially choose to be highlighted, in his handbook.
He had never felt so calm, or so light before.
The world seemed so clear and bright to Naruto, leading to him finding how simple things became now with all of his chakra calm. In fact he began to notice things like a nervous twitch someone would make or maybe a fake smile and learn what that person was thinking by only that small bit of information.
Dachi had told him everything he was noticing he had always been able to do though before his mind didn't allow him to process the information because it was too focus on making sure Naruto's chakra didn't burn his body inside out.
Snapping back to the present Naruto started letting his eyes take note of what the others were doing while he spun around.
The royal guards were smiling; Zazu wasn't even looking at them but at his right hand with a confused frown; the two other blacking wearing strangers were still disbelieving staring, Akane stood quitly with a blank expression almost fading into the background and Kurama was making desperate hugging motions.
Raising an eyebrow in curiosity Naruto didn't really understand why his brother would be doing that until it clicked in his head. Just in time to it would seem as the head den stopped their spinning her voice taking a dangerous edged to it "What wrong Naru-chan? Don't you like my hugs?!"
Sending a silent thank you to Dachi, for the man's tips on how to focus and how to handle unnecessary confrontations, he quickly hugged the lady back. "No. no. I'm just not used to being hugged is all! You see where I'm from no one really ever wants to hug me…."
His voice died out at the end as a pain stabbed his heart again from thinking of the Leaf once more. Ever since he found a way to process things Naruto couldn't think of the Leaf village without realizing the depressing truth of how unwanted he was there. Of how much people tried to get him in trouble, beat him, called him names or more sugar coated attempted to kill him.
Forget them…they don't want you….forget them….they hurt you…FORGET THEM! A voice whispered in his head. It made sense, he should forget them. They didn't deserve him- NO!
Naruto shook his head. He was here to train then he would go back. He made a promise to himself and he would not break it. He promise he would show them all that he could be strong…even though he started to wonder why he ever wanted to be Hokage in the first place, he would still become the leader of that village! Because to a boy who had nothing his word was his everything!
He was no coward that ran away from his problems!
Even if that dark voice whispered the Leaf villages weren't worth it…..
"Very well then Naru-chan. Come this way. We must discuses your schedule plus your uniform must be picked." Grandmother Fukuro said snapping the whiskered boy from his thoughts, noticing Naruto's change in behavior. She knew younglings and sometimes it best to let them figure out what is brothering them rather than prying. They would come to talk to her when they were ready.
Quickly turning she motion to the carriage. "Let's get in and go."
Before Naruto –or anyone really- had a chance to replied she clapped her hands twice making the blue cabollos turned green, then the emerald green beauties moved forward at alarming speeds. They ran past the guards who managed to jump out of the way at the last second as to not get hit with by the golden transportation. It stop next to the den just where she raised her hand to swing it open calling out to her two companions as she climbed in "Taro and Juki, you are excused."
Naruto blinked then looked around at the others present.
The guards were all ready on their own cabollos around the carriage in a protective manner, the now named Taro and Juki were currently walking away without a care whispering to each other almost lovingly and Kurama plus Akane each took hold of one of blond boy's shoulder forcing him to walk with them.
Lowing his voice so they would be the only two to hear him, Naruto asked "Is grandmother Fukuro bipolar?"
"No...Yes…I don't know really. I think so but I never found enough proof that she is." Kurama whispered back contempt with keeping the fact grandmother tended to switch her personality to best fit each student. She could literally become anyone the student needed when they had to talk about something.
If you needed someone cheerful she became cheerful.
Needed someone serious she seemed like she had never smiled before in her life.
Someone loving? She became a mother in seconds.
And she could read people faster than that to know which personality to turn into before they could even let a word out.
Nodding his head Naruto allowed them to plop him into the carriage with the den, then waited a few minutes for them to be on the move. His eyes fell onto the window, hopping to get a view of the campus. He got to see some streets filled with homes and animal people walking back and forth, reminding him of the Leaf village with its weather and house formations yet more traditional- at this he slightly flinch remembering the glares form his childhood- when the Fukuro's and Kurama's conversation caught his attention.
"Yes, he is a background student." Kurama said.
Nodding her head as if expecting this Fukuro eyed Naruto who stared back somewhat puzzled before giving a small smile. "Okay Naru-chan. I going to ask a question and you give me an honest answer. It will help in where to place you."
Tilting his head Naruto asked "like an entrance exam?"
Shaking her head negative Fukuro clarified "Not quite. You will take that when we get to my office. No I mean your dorm." At his confused face she continued hoping to help him understand "You see most of my students need certain places, such as the dog demons can't be too near the music district for it can be rather painful to their ears. So we ask them questions about their personality in hopes of finding preferred homes yet still give them a chance to meet new people and new cultures while here. After a week if you or your roommates aren't happy with your current situation you may be allowed to move however you must find your own place. "
Blinking Naruto found this system of placing useful, maybe even fun so with one of his famous grins he said "ask away then!"
Giving a small chuckle Fukuro asked "favorite color?"
"Orange"
"Favorite food?"
"Ramen"
"Hobbies?"
"gardening, reading and training…the occasional prank too"
"Dream for the future?"
"To become Hokage….and find somewhere I am wanted"
"Crush?"
"No one"
"Kind of music?"
"Don't have a preference"
"Fruit or vegetables?"
"Fruit"
And so it went she asked a random question never related to the last and he would give an answer. Naruto felt like this was a game of twenty questions he would see some of the other children play but had never gotten the chance to be a part of before as the kids would not let him join. It was fun. He never thought answering questions about himself would ever make him feel good nor the grins or scowls the den would send him after he gave his answer could also made them entertaining. So caught up with the questions he forgot to look outside as they moved on.
After a while Naruto then noticed Kurama and Akane kept silent through the whole thing, as he almost forgot about them when the carriage came to a stop an hour later.
Shocked he looked outside as the door open watching the white haired fox girl step off first then he followed only to have his eyes widen at the castle like building before him. With high towers made out of silver almost white bricks, they easily past the Hokage tower in height. The ground level had large windows almost as big as him while they too were made out of silver whitish brick. There were at least ten levels from what he could tell.
The building really looked more like the royal castle from Kurama's kingdom. He looked behind him to see magnificent foundation sparkling clear water in different directions yet oddly resembling a waterfall. A garden filled with flowers ,trees, grassy fields and paths could be seen for a nice fifty feet or so, then a walls plus gate made of black could be spotted at the far edge of it. Beyond the front of the school gate laid houses, business and other buildings.
It seemed like a large village.
"Pretty impressive right? Since most nobles send their kids here, in order to teach them trade after they each are assigned a house as a dorm, they are then told to get somehow into business. If they are freshmen then they look for a job in one of the business run by the upper classmen. You are required to run a form of way to make money here as the island has its own money account yet it could be anything you want from a dojo to spa and anything in between. You get a random abandon building that the senior leave behind when they graduate, if you're a sophomore and up that is. " Kurama explained after seeing where Naruto stared at.
That was certainly amazing. It really was like a privet village out here.
"So the first years have to be the workers?" Naruto asked
"Not quite. You can be freshmen but some who score high can run places while the upper classmen who score low still have to work. And sometimes some want to sell their place so they place flyers around which allows freshmen to be buyers, and then they can change it up and start their own business. It's a grade and requirement for this school so if you go here at one point or another you have to start something in order to graduate. " Kurama answered.
"Coming boys?" called grandmother Fukuro, climbing the stars, Akane waiting patiently for them at the bottom of the staircase.
Naruto followed after her leaving Kurama to give orders to his guards, while trying to take in as much as he could. On the inside it looked like a black marble flooring on the ground while walls had different shades of silver. He was starting to notice a color theme….
There were also doors leading to what Naruto assumed were classrooms.
Soon they climbed to the top floor entering an office setting, where other people moved about going about their day, being the only persons Naruto had seen since entering, though most paused to stare at Naruto with confused eyes then after recalling the rumors flying around their eyes would widen moving forward to try and start a conversation with him. However Fukuro would not stopped once.
Finally reaching the largest room on the floor, Fukuro grinned at him "okay Naru-chan, once we get in my office you will have to take a test but first…"
Twisting the door knob Naruto eyes widen at the site of thousands and thousands of clothes in black and silver. It even had two floors!"You see Naru-chan. In this school you must wear black and silver for Mondays through Fridays on your school hours. The weekends you may wear whatever you feel like, this also applies to when you do not attain school. You may choose any style you want as long it covers everything that needs to be covered and as long it uses the school colors." The den said cheerfully.
"With that said this room is separate by gender. The top floor are the girl clothes and the bottom are the boys….but don't let that make you think you must wear male clothing if you prefer to cross dress go right ahead! Just be sure on what you want to wear since once you pick an outfit you cannot change your man latter on. It will be your school uniform for the next four years." Grandmother Fukuro warned.
"So I can pick anything I want from here and then wear those same clothes for four years?" Naruto asked amazed at the amount he could see.
"Yes and no. You wear the same style of clothes but you of course will have some extra delivered to your dorm later on this week, however it will only be three complete sets, if you want more you could visit your follow classmates clothes stores, seamstress studios or the tailor's as well. They make casual clothing or some items you could add to your school uniform if you wish. In fact all these clothing are form their stores. Each have the name of the seller on the tags so you know where the clothes are sold if you wish for more." Was his answer, as the den handed him a paper and a pencil.
"When you find your uniform write the code it has on this for the appropriate area. Such as the blank next to shoes you would put BST45 to inform me you like to use the same style of shoes as me for example. The code can also be found on the tags."
With that she lead Naruto inside, pointing out where each item could be found from tops, bottoms, shows, headwear, underwire, even armor as they went. Telling him they had already been divided into groups of size.
Once they reached the center of the room which had couches placed in the shape of a circle she sat down pulling out a book form who knows where a flipped it open "Okay Naruto go ahead and search for something to wear. You have all the time you need, but seeing as it normally takes time for someone to simply walk the length of this place let alone looking through the clothes I am going to catch up on my reading if you don't mind while I wait. "
She gave him a soft smile at the end making him get a small idea for a prank. He didn't know why but her reading while he work just reminded him of Kakashi leaving a bitter taste in his mouth for some odd reason, so he decided it would be fun to cut her reading time. Placing his hands in a almost second nature cross sign he missed the owl like eyes sharpening and the way she quickly made the book disappear as if though it had been a weapon.
Does not react well to being ignored…..the boys has abandonment issues it seems, just like Kurama had warn, better make sure not to put him in Jerara's class then. Thought the den, her eyes calculating with intelligence then quickly changing into confused when she noticed Naruto eyes had fallen on her; for some reason she knew this boy wouldn't take kindly to being judge or evaluated nor pitied so she would be darn sure not to let him see her just that!
In seconds the whole area filled with hundreds of blond preteens, each spotting a grin.
"Don't worry grandmother! With my clones also looking I can be done in no time!" they said at the same time.
The den blinked once before letting out a strong laugh "Is that so? Very well Naru-chan, have at it! Who knew you could make so many shadows self! I am impressed!" she cried with a fist held in the air.
All clones paused, not used to being praised for the shadow clone justu, in fact he half expected her to be in a daze or full out deny he could make this much. He certainly wasn't expecting her to find it amazing at the sheer number of them all. He had never met someone who- no he has. He suddenly thought of a younger boy screaming "Boss!" Eyes sparkling in child awe and wonder when he first showed him his clone justu.
Thinking back on it Konohamaru was the only one who really cared about him in that village… the brat never called him names nor did he ever question his hobbies. In fact Konohamaru had gotten Naruto his first ever thank you present, for helping him and his two other friends that one time with their stealth skills. It had been the best patch of strawberries he ever grown.
Not him…don't forget him…ever! The voice whispered sounding somewhat terrified.
"u-um yeah! You heard her guys let's go!" the real Naruto yelled after snapping out of his trance. Watching as his clones nodded then each went their own way among the clothes racks starting to flip through them. Whenever one found something cool looking it would pop letting the others know along with the code.
Sitting down on the couch he almost had a heart attack when he noticed Akane standing right behind him. Naruto had forgotten she came with them since she made no noise the whole time.
She gave him a leveled stare before turning her head. Unsure why Naruto got the feeling she called him lazy. Sighing he stood and join the clones in their search ignoring the quite chuckling of the den and the silent showdown who followed him. He didn't know why but having Akane displeased with him just didn't sit well with the human so he made sure to work hard trying to find a good set of clothes.
He was almost surprised when the white hair girl suggested the silver chest armor which resembles that of what ANBU wear when they walked by the line of armor. He had to admit though he rather liked it, so with a nodded he added the code to the paper, much to the pleasure of the fox demon.
The den also made some suggestions oddly staying with the real one not once mistaking the clones as him, Naruto got the feeling she just wanted to see him in girl clothes since she would only suggest dresses….
Even Kurama, helped out after entering with Zazu , who is his personal guard, claiming it felt just like freshmen reassertion day all over again.
Finally after a hour of deleting chooses Naruto stood with a in a exact replica of a ANBU uniform made out of tight-ish black pants, a black short sleeve shirt, a silver chest armor arm guards similar to ANBU. He had some silver bandages wrapped around his legs they were also made out of armor though it acted more as a metal whip than anything else. They resembled the wraps he had on his left leg when wearing his orange jumpsuit. He had on black boots which were made from the same material shinobi sandals were and to finish the look silver fingerless gloves with silver metal on the knuckles that- according to Zazu who wore similar ones- help turn chakra into small medic justsu no matter the life energy, for fighters.
He stepped out of the changing rooms that were placed in the back to the room to the three people showing them how he looked in his school uniform he asked "so what do you think?"
"wow." Akane said with a firm nod
"What she said" agreed Zazu
"How cute!" squealed grandmother Fukuro
"I like it! Looks good on you kit! Very good, too good …be careful kit, fangirls can be a danger to one's health" Kurama warned.
Grinning at the praises Naruto tuned to Fukuro. "Okay now what?"
The den turned serious again moving her hand to the left where a door with a sliver flower with black at the tips of the petals, the same flower from the front gates.
"That is the entrance exam room once you enter all sounds will cancel so you can concentrate." Slapping a bracelet on his left wrist she pointed to the flower on it. "This will vibrate when your three hours are up. The test has exactly one thousand questions; you don't have to answer all of them since the unanswered ones will not be graded. How well you do will determine which year you will be place in. Since you weren't taught in a demon school we don't know how far you are in education so this is just to determine where to have you study so you aren't overwhelm. There will be reading, math, science but no history questions since it would be unfair to test you on history you've never studied before. Any questions?"
Shaking his head no Naruto had to admit it was good having such great memory ever since Dachi explain his disadvantage
"Alright then, go in when you're ready once the time runs out leave your test on the desk." She said.
Taking in a deep breath, the blond human entered the room seeing desks lined up in a rows. It didn't look like any of the desk back in the village these ones had the chairs attached to the side of the desk by a pole. One desk had a stack of papers on it. Walking over to it, Naruto realized not even his footsteps made a sound, curiosity he stomped his foot on the ground as hard as he could only to hear silence.
Talk about sound proof thought the boy as he cracked his neck making clones who each took about ten pages of the stack moving into their own seats starting answer the test. What was left he started even thought it was still more than any of the clones. Losing himself to the questions he realized that most was covered in the ninja academy, which he could now remember if he thought really hard, he also notice some of the answered were within the next questions following afterwards.
Before long clones started placing finished pages on his desk before proofing away giving some answers to other clones as the memoires came back, after he finished his piled the vibration on his wrist went off. Stopping Naruto realized he answered all of the questions and only one fourth of it he guessed on. Hopefully enough to be place above freshmen.
Stepping out he was greeted with Kurama elbowing Zazu wagging his eyebrow, while Zazu blushed trying his best to shrink. Akane was staring at them with a confused frown which wouldn't look as strange if it wasn't so expressionless while the den giggled mumbling "so cute, so cute. A perfect picture you'll make!"
They didn't seem to notice him standing there so Naruto decided to stand in the background and watch them for an awhile. This people cared about him, helped him more than anyone else and showed him what it felt like to be cared about.
He didn't know if he could ever say goodbye to them, to Asumi the kind sister who had taught him his way around the kitchen while giving him dating advice asking about his life back home, to Dachi who remembered him of a everything he wanted to prove that hothead people could also be strong yet fun at the same time, who help him at times with his problems, to Zazu who gave him advice on fighting and made him feel safe, to Akane who kept a silent support to him at all times while watching over him like a guarding angle.
He couldn't say goodbye.
Don't forget Konohamaru ! The voice scream. Shaking his head Naruto moved out of the shadows unaware that they had all known he was there but decided to ignore him in favor of allowing him to watch them.
"Okay now what?" he asked
"Now we wait till your test is graded to see what classes you can take. Just enjoy the time for a while" Answered Fukuro placing her hands on her knees "why don't you tell me about yourself Naru-chan?"
Nodding Naruto sat besides Kurama joining the conversation. Ignoring the voice that whispered, in his head while he was at it.
Forget the leaf…but not Konohamaru…forget the rest… live here forever!
