Thought I left you guys? NOPE! I was looking at my fanfics and felt bad I hadn't posted in a while. Unlike my other stories I actually had a couple chapters waiting to be edited so I quickly edited this one and decided to post it. I haven't had time to write and I probably won't until winter break. But I promise I haven't quit on my stories! Honestly I barely have any time for myself or else I would be posting more chapters more often. I hope you guys are liking this story! Enjoy this chapter!
Chapter 4
A fist slammed down on the bar startling the quiet guild. After Team Natsu came back from looking for Lucy the guild had lost it's vigor. It had only been a week since the team came back but no fights had been started and there was no yelling or screaming. No crazy pyromaniac almost burning the place down anymore. Now he sat at the bar staring at it as if the bar could give him answers. His fist slamming against the bar was the first loud sound in weeks, "I don't understand," he whispered, trying to hold the tears back, "Don't understand what Natsu?" Mira asked slowly approaching the dragon slayer.
"How could Lucy leave just like that? Doesn't she care about us? Aren't we supposed to be her nakama? I thought we were supposed to stick together. I have been sitting here trying to think of a reasonable explanation as to why she would leave us without her seeming like she didn't care because I know that isn't true. Was it all a lie? Did she just act like she cared? I thought she would never leave. She didn't even say goodbye. I don't count that letter as a goodbye. A goodbye is being there and saying you are leaving in person. If she cared she would have told us in person. So she must not really care about us," although he addressed it as if he was talking about the whole guild everyone secretly knew he meant it for himself. He felt like he had been abandoned all over again and was trying to cope with it.
"You are talking nonsense Natsu." A stern voice interjected. Everyone looked over to see Erza walking up to the bar. Natsu looked up at Erza, "Lucy loved us I know that for a fact. We don't know why she left and I am sure she thought it was the best for everyone but we need to find her and let her know that she is wrong. And that is what we will do."
"How?"
"Well just looking for her isn't going to work. So maybe if we show her how much we miss her then she will come to us."
"What do you mean 'show her'" everyone's attention was now on Erza waiting for her to tell them a plan that would get Lucy back. Everyone missed Lucy and would do anything to get her back, "well what from what I know about Lucy she seems to like music a lot. Maybe we can write her a song."
"But how would we make sure she saw it? We don't know where she is."
"Easy. We will go on missions and instead of getting a money reward we will simply ask if we can gather people from the town and perform for them. If we travel to enough places then we are bound to find Lucy and maybe she will come out of hiding." for the first time in forever Natsu smiled as he fist pumped the air and yelled, "I'm all fired up! Let's get a job! Hurry!" He ran towards the job board but instead ran straight into Erza's fist, falling to the floor, "not so fast Natsu. We still need to write a song for her," Natsu sat up on the floor with one eye closed in pain, "well how do you do that?"
"Well I assume you write your feelings on a piece of paper and then add instruments and sing what you wrote."
"That sounds hard," the guild sweatdropped at the two. The two people who hid their feelings the most and kept everything inside were talking about sharing their feelings to a crowd of people. This would be interesting. Erza walked up on to the stage of the guild and sat down at the piano, "NATSU! Get over here and help me write this song! Oh! And bring a paper and pen." Natsu immediately jumped up and ran as fast as he could to find some paper and a pen before running over to Erza and setting it down in front of her. He stood for a moment not sure if she wanted him to sit with her or go back to the bar, "sit," well there was his answer. He sat down on the bench next to her.
A group gathered around the piano, some to listen to the song, others for entertainment. For a while the two sat in silence and everyone felt hopeless, finally Erza cleared her throat and said, "so….how should we start off?" Natsu looked up at her and shrugged, "how am I supposed to know?" A collective face palm was heard and everyone realized just how hopeless the two were. Erza looked down at the keyboard as if it were a monster she had never fought before, "how do you make music with this?" Natsu shrugged again but Mira came to the rescue pushing through the crowd to get to the two, "I know how to play!" The pair looked up and smiled, Natsu standing up and taking a place behind the bench to watch Erza and Mira.
Mira sat on the bench and looked over at Erza, "so were you thinking a fast happy song or a slow sad song?" Erza looked at her with a blank face looking up at Natsu for help but he proved to be no help at all, "alright...let's go with slow. Slow songs usually are more meaningful and they can pull at your heart strings. Now we just need lyrics. What do you want the lyrics to be?" Mira handed Erza the pen to hint that Erza should start writing. Erza stared at the piece of paper before starting to write.
Five minutes later she handed the paper to Mira with a smile. Mira grabbed the paper eager to read but her smile dropped as she read a long, "Lucy. Fairy Tail misses you. Come back to Fairy Tail. You belong in Fairy Tail with your family. Come back or I will find you and drag you back to where you belong." Mira looked at a beaming Erza. She looked like she had just won her first prize and was very proud of herself, "well. How do you like it?" Mira mustered a small supportive smile before saying, "well I can tell you put your heart into it. But we need more lyrics and sometimes music isn't about being blunt," Erza looked at Mira with a confused face and Mira sighed.
Mira was starting to think it was hopeless when she saw Levy heading her way, "I think I can help! Songs are like poetry and I read a lot of poetry. I can write the lyrics for you. What message do you want the song to get across?"
"I want the song to let Lucy know that we miss her and that we want her to come back," Natsu said stepping towards Levy. Levy nodded before running off to start writing the lyrics for the song. Mira turned back towards Natsu and Erza, " I need to make sure you guys can sing."
"Wait why do I have to sing?!" Natsu yelled.
"Because you both were the closest to Lucy. Natsu, you and Lucy were best friends. You brought her to the guild in the first place and if anyone knows her best, it's you. Erza, Lucy looks up to you. She thinks of you as her sister. If there are any two people in this guild that Lucy is most likely to listen to it's you two," Erza nodded and Natsu sighed in agreement. Mira turned to the group gathered around the piano, "alright singing lessons are not for the whole guild to see. Everyone give us some space." The crowd dispersed and people went back to the tables but nobody spoke. Everyone wanted to hear Erza and Natsu sing.
As Mira's lessons started everyone began talking again. It sounded like cats were dying and soon enough people were plugging their ears.
~time skip~
Eventually the guild members tuned out Natsu and Erza singing and hadn't even realized it had been three hours when Mira, Natsu, and Erza came walking off the stage. Just as they were walking off Levy came running in, "FINISHED!" everyone looked at her in shock, "already?!" Mira exclaimed. Levy nodded and ran up to her handing the papers to Mira, beaming at her. Mira took her time reading the lyrics and when she was finally finished a single tear fell down her cheek and a small smile pulled at the sides of her mouth, "it's beautiful," she hugged Levy and then pulled Natsu and Erza up on to the stage.
For a while they conversed on who sang what and Mira played with the piano a bit. Once they were finished, Mira stood up and walked up to the front of the stage, "attention everyone. This is the very first performance by Fairy Tail's own Natsu Dragneel and Erza Scarlet," nervous glances were exchanged as everyone recalled the dying animal sounds being made when Natsu and Erza first started but they clapped along hoping to be able to get through.
Mira started to play the piano and as Natsu started to sing everyone's jaws dropped. Tough, crazy, childish Natsu whose voice wasn't soft nor high sounded like a completely different person. His voice was smooth like silk and at one point his voice reached an octave no one knew he could ever be capable of reaching. Although still somewhat surprised everyone had expected Erza's voice to come through. Her low voice was beautiful and full and fit the song perfectly. Everyone was mesmerized. Once they finished the guild erupted in applause. Everyone was cheering for the two new singers. Who knew the two had that talent in them? The master jumped up onto the banister and proclaimed, "THIS CALLS FOR A PARTY!" The guild cheered even louder and soon everyone was drinking and laughing like before Lucy had left.
Master walked up to Mira, Natsu, and Erza as they were coming down from the stage, "I expect you three plus Gray and Wendy to go along on these missions. Is that alright with you? Please bring her back. Now looking back I wish I could have reasoned with Lucy to stay but I thought I would let her choose her path. Just bring her back," the trio nodded and dispersed to celebrate. Lisanna ran up to Natsu and hugged him, "you were amazing up there! I didn't know you could sing like that!" Natsu grinned at her and she smiled back, happy that he was finally happy, "yeah. I think we have a really good chance at getting Lucy to come back. Lucy is all about that sentimental stuff," Lisanna smiled and laced her hand with Natsu's as the two went to talk to friends.
The guild partied all night long as morning rolled around everyone was passed out of the floor. Lisanna was curled up on Natsu's chest sound asleep and Natsu was sprawled out on the floor with drool dripping out of his mouth. He was suddenly woken by a sharp pain as his eyes flew open and he sat up looking at who had hit him. His eyes met Erza's and he cowered back in fear, "Natsu come on. Everyone else is awake. We need to find a job," Natsu quickly nodded and stood up heading to the job request board with the rest of the group. After examining it for a while Mira pointed out a job in Crocus. All they had to do was figure out who kept stealing animals from the farms and turn the bandits in.
Just as they were leaving Lisanna started to wake up, "Natsu?" He looked back and found a groggy Lisanna rubbing her eye while looking at him, "shh it's okay. We are leaving on our job. We will be back in four days," Lisanna stood and ran to hug him, "good luck. Bring her back."
"We will. I swear," and with that the group left to bring their celestial mage back home.
