The Problem With Rebirth

Chapter 4: First Years! This way, come!

I want to take a moment to respond to the reviews...

FalconFate :

I may disappoint you with Draco, but I have someone else far better in mind for him. With Ron, you're really close! Your one of the first people to guess about Ron and that character. I can't wait to see what you think about my version of Cedric. Thank you for the review!

Spike Trap :

I may disappoint you. I apologize for that in advance, but I promise to make up for it in story line! If I told you now, there would be no fun in it ;D. Thank you for the review!

Nataly SkyPot :

Gracias por el review!

Fai's smile :

Stretch out your list a little. Genders won't entirely match up in this, cause genetics are decided by current parents. Hermione could very well equal up to Lance. Or Ron could be Gwen. I'm just giving examples though. Lol Can't give away the secrets! Thank you for the review!

TsukihanaYUE :

I am glad that you enjoyed the story thus far! Lol I like your theories, we shall see :D Thank you for the review!

Thank you to everyone who reviewed! I really appreciate the feed back! 3

Begin!

Harry glared at the back of the blonde's head. "What do you mean?" He asked. Malfoy smirked.

They happened to be sitting in a locked and warded compartment for the ride to Hogwarts. This being Harry's first year, his father had insisted that he take a long train ride back home, which Harry found ridiculous.

Now look where he was! Trapped with a ferret, in a compartment.

"I meant what I said. You're a half breed, so your powers won't fully come back to you... Merlin."

Harry sighed. He really should have known, just by that crazy look in those mercury grey eyes. "Hello again, Morgana."

The cackle that followed was spine tingling.

. . .

Sammy stood outside of said compartment. He heard the cackle, and knew Morgana was probably taking her turn to apologize to Merlin... or scaring the wits out of him. Whichever she got in her head to do first...

His.

Sammy shook his head. It was a hard pill to swallow. Morgana was now a guy. That was weird. But somehow, it fit.

She'd made an elegant and beautiful woman. But something about her now was noble, and cunning. Still handsome, sure. But more powerful as well.

Mordred just hope she'd retained some sanity, though he highly doubted it.

. . .

"It's been so long!" Morgana or Draco was now hugging Merlin or Harry. Harry blinked, confused for a second.

"Weren't we trying to kill each other the last time?" Draco giggled.

"We were husband and wife in that lifetime." he reminded Harry. Merlin put his face in his hand.

"I wonder what possessed Me." mercury eyes narrowed.

"Morbid curiosity?" Green eyes met said mercury eyes.

"Perhaps it was true attraction." he admitted. Mercury eyes widened.

"Though your lion has returned to you." Harry nodded at Draco's statement. That was true. The man Morgana had sworn to kill was now his to protect once again. This put them at opposite sides of the board yet again. Merlin was starting to get a headache.

"Do you still wish his death?" He wondered, praying the answer was different from what he knew.

Draco's eyes narrowed on him. "Maybe once we get the bigger problem out of the way, and nothing stands to oppose me."

Harry looked to Draco, sorrow coating his eyes. "Please... Don't make me do this again. Morgana, I beg of you this one time. Don't let this cycle continue. Aren't you tired?" he asked. The heavy weight of lifetimes past dripping from his words.

Morgana looked as if he'd consider it, but those eyes turned cold. "Even after the lifetimes of love I'd given you, you'll still stand beside the lion that would gladly throw you to the wolves to save his own kingdom!"

Merlin looked to her, his eyes completely serious. "As if fate would let me be otherwise." those words were ominous, and perhaps unfair.

"You can walk away now, Merlin! You know you could!"

"And then what? Walk away into the mists of time to forever march to Destiny's drums? No thank you! I've had peace during the lifetimes Arthur and I have never come into contact. I wish only for oblivion after this lifetime. When I die, I want to stay there!"

A sting met his cheek.

"How dare you! You have become more spoiled than Arthur! You're not the only one who's marched to Destiny's well-worn drums! We all have. Pull your head out of your arse for a moment, and look at those around you! We need you Merlin. Now more than we ever have. I need you Merlin." the last sentence was whispered.

The edges of Merlin's lips twitched. "You still hit like a girl."

. . .

Sammy could hear more smacking happening after that statement, and worried about Merlin's health. He decided that now would be a good time to intervene.

The door slid open easily under Sam's power. His hand gripping the handle tightly, he poked his head in to find Morgana smacking Merlin's arm over and over.

"Do I still hit like a girl!?"

"Yes!" was the laughed out response.

"GIT!"

"Guys!" Sam cried out.

Both Draco and Harry stopped and turned to stare at him.

In a flash, Sam found himself tackled by the now male Morgana. "Mordred! My cute, and adorable Mordred!"

A blush found its way across his pale cheeks. He was barely able to hold up the solid male build as well as his own. "Hello Morgana." he whispered, knowing she... he... would hear. That was going to take a while to get used to...

Merlin only shook his head and laughed. "I am guessing there was another reason you wanted to pull me in here other than to warn me about my 'dwindling powers' as you put it."

Morgana looked up at him with narrowed eyes. Then, he gave Harry a pout. "Not if I hit like a girl!" he said, turning his head away from the both of them, hiding the girlish pout.

"You even pout like a girl!"

Apparently, she'd not hid it well. Draco turned eyes onto Harry. "Watch your mouth!" she hissed. Harry blinked, but offered only a smile as apology.

"About that whole 'half breed' comment! Actually, because my mother was a witch, I am considered a first generation pureblood. So long as I marry a pureblood, I can create a noble line. I am descended from a long line of ancient families.

Draco nodded his head. "Yes, but did you take into account all of the blood line mixes?" he asked with all seriousness. Harry tilted his head.

"I have considered it. There have simply been far too many that have married into the Potter line to trace. Even British royalty has married into the Potter line. Not a direct line, but all the same.

Then there is the Peverell family. You remember the Deathly Hollows? One of the brothers married into the Potters. I am not sure which, quite yet."

Draco patiently listened to everything Harry was telling him. "That is all well and good, but do you know where your mother came from? That is what I am getting at. There has to have been magical history in her blood."

Harry blinked. "Are you saying that muggleborns do not just come out of nowhere?"

Draco nodded. "And until you figure out your mother's history, you will only be at half your strength. Remember, knowledge has always been power."

Merlin sighed at Morgana. "You are not telling me anything new here."

He got smacked for his trouble. "Hey!"

The door slid open, and wide brown eyes met green.

"Have any of you seen a toad?" A soft voice asked, but Merlin would remember the beauty behind her eyes any day.

"Freya…" was the only thing he could utter.

She smiled at him brightly. "I am happy you recognized me. I thought you wouldn't because I am no longer a cursed druid…" she giggled.

She was suddenly enveloped in warm arms, and a nose buried into her hair.

"Freya." Merlin whispered softly. He had missed her dearly.

"Merlin." Was her whispered response as she was pulled into the compartment with them.

Suddenly, she felt the icy chill of a glare aimed at her.

"Merlin… Who the bloody hell is this?" Draco hissed. Harry could only chuckle at Morgana.

"This, my dear, is my first promised." He announced as he looked deep into her eyes. He could suddenly see the gold flecks. "So, how are you enjoying the witchy life so far?" he asked. He couldn't stop holding her.

She smiled. "I have not had much of an experience thus far, but so far it has been pleasant." She knew her fingers were digging into his clothing, as if trying to dig through them, and to his skin.

She was surprised when she was almost tipped over as another joined the hug. Mercury flashed across her vision as Draco was hugging Harry from behind.

"And what gives you the right to hug my friend?"

Harry could only laugh. "She is my first love, Morgana. Calm yourself."

Hermione wasn't sure if she should prepare to defend herself, or flee. While looking around, she decided that she may as well flee.

Just as she was about to bolt, she looked into those vivid green eyes. Suddenly, she realized that there would be no leaving his side again. She would fight her hardest to stay by his side.

Their time together had been far too short. Now, she hoped that this time around would be a whole lot longer.

She made that solemn promise to herself. She had read all about Harry Potter in this world, and not even Voldemort's return could drive her away from him.

. . .

The ride to Hogwarts was long, but not lonely. They had been joined by one Ronald Weasley, whom he had been happy to discover was Ewan.

And even Neville Longbottom, Blaise Zabini, Lavender Brown, and Cedric Diggory were sitting in the compartment with them.

He was especially delighted in the fact that Neville was Owain, and Blaise was Leon. He was laughing to find out that Lavender was Gwen, and Cedric was Lancelot. He was surrounded by all of his friends, and now family.

He wrapped his arms around Freya who was sitting beside him, laughing with Gwen about something so silly.

He watched as the old knights got into a discussion about what was going to happen during school. It was like sitting around a campfire again, with the addition of Morgana and Mordred, and no Arthur.

He couldn't decide if that were a blessing or a curse at this moment. He could already hear Arthur's voice rattling off a list of chores for him to finish.

He closed his eyes for a moment, and could actually smell the fresh grass, and the warmth of a campfire. He could imagine the soft feel of the wind against his face, and could hear the slight whinny of the horses as they were fed for the night.

He was about to drift into the past, when Freya… Hermione's soft hand gripped his softly. "Well, we shall have to see what adventures await us. This will be a new and exciting adventure for us all."

Harry smiled, and pulled her closer. He wasn't sure if the feelings he felt for her were still the love he had once felt, but he knew he would always want her close.

He knew that something would change the dynamics of the wizarding world. He also knew that this force was not Voldemort. It was something far more sinister than one crazed wizard with an ideal and slight power could ever be.

He looked around, ever hopeful that things would never change. He knew that things would though. It was inevitable. That was just the nature of Fate's eternal wheel.

He had to shake himself out of those thoughts. It was doing him no good to have these depressing thoughts.

When he blinked out of it, he was met with those wide knowing brown eyes. "What house do you think you will be sorted into?"

Merlin laughed. "I dunno. I was thinking about Ravenclaw. It would give me many opportunities to learn new things."

Draco rolled his eyes. "Slytherin for me, and I know Blaise will also be in Slytherin." Sam laughed.

Lavender smiled. "Gryffindor for me!" Neville nodded his agreement. "Seems the best choice."

Cedric huffed. "Why does no one ever want to be in Hufflepuff?"

. . .
