A dream a overhearing& a brilliant scarlet.
He ran out of the room and didn't stop running until he reached the exit where he met Seri waiting for him.
"Fushimi kun! Get your ass here NOW. I have a really important mission for you. Domoyoji just called me up…..wait a minute Fushimi…HEY Fushimi...where are you running off again."
Fushimi incidentally was not in a situation to talk or explain things. He was getting a little dizzy. He needs to think about it. Rethink again and again and needs a good explanation or excuse to justify his action. It was beyond his imagination to touch somebody …kissing is some unattainable goal for him. How can he actually do that? Is he curing with passing time? But it is impossible...it won't go no matter what…it follows him like a dark shadow refusing to leave his side….his trauma…his guiltiness…his weakness…his twisted mentality…his nightmares hunts him down no matter where he is. Perhaps it is the fate decided for him.
He didn't see or heard Awashima. He grabbed his bag and staggered out through the exit gate.
He reached home after 20 minutes which seemed like 2 hrs to him. He opened the lock of the main gate and walked inside. He went upstairs to his bedroom and no sooner he entered than he flopped himself on the bed without getting refreshed and pulled the covers over his head. He didn't turn on the lights he wasn't in the mood of it right now. The bedroom was a medium one with a soft blue rug on the floor, long canvas like silvery white walls with the wall on the back of the bed highlighted with velvety blue color in an artistic pattern. One side of the room was made of crystal clear glass which overlooked a great swimming pool outside filled with clear blue water. The garden lights of the neat lawn reflected the rippling waters on the walls thus lighting the room with a mystic silvery glow. Fushimi takes pride in designing the room so that there would be no need of artificial lighting in his room. He likes to live near water. This ambience cools him down acts as a stress reliever.
He started pondering over little things…he clicked his tongue repeatedly cursing out of frustration. Fushimi Saruhiko can never do something like that. He won't…he simply can't….it's unreal…he doesn't have a reason…why would he do such an unreasonable thing to do….how could he do something so embarrassing and pointless like that…how…could…..he…..
He dozed off to sleep slowly under the warm blankets thinking about it.
It was dark so very dark. No light everything was pitch black. It felt damp under his foot. There was the sound of constant dripping of water. "Hello! Anybody here…?"Somehow his voice seemed odd like a little child's. He looked down at his small body. He was back to seven year old Saruhiko! He couldn't believe his eyes….he was living in 'that' day. His clothes were soiled and dirty and ripped at some places. He automatically shifted his hands on his cheeks…yes it is there…the gash it is deep and bleeding but it doesn't hurts. Maybe wounds don't hurt when you are in a dream. He is dreaming, he tries to make himself remember. This is nothing but a dream….just a dream…isn't it? What if it isn't? What if it's all real? What if this is the reality and that world is dream? He is existing right. He himself isn't dream isn't it…he got no reply to confirm it…an unknown fear grasped him in clutches….he screamed for someone to help him desperately…yes, he was really desperate….desperate to know whether his existence has a value or not whether his existence is a lie or not.
Then like a ray of hope a voice called out for him. It was oddly familiar. He didn't need a second hearing to realize who it was…..It was Misaki. "Misaki" he called out "I am here….down here. Please can you help me? It's so dark here I can't see anything"
Misaki didn't say anything he let down a crimson ribbon to him. When he touched it burned on the skin of his hand making it itch still he hold on to it...the ribbon slowly pulled him out of the dark hole...he saw light at the mouth of the hole...fast approaching towards him. But then suddenly and abruptly...it all stopped.
"Misaki...what happened?" Fushimi tried to see the figure as his eyes adjusted to the bright light. First he couldn't see his face clearly it was just a vague shade and shape...but it cleared and he saw him...he was looking down at him with a sad face.
"Misaki what is it? Why are you looking at me like that...did I do something wrong...tell me...don't go...don't leave me alone like that"
He said nothing. He stared at him with eyes full of pity and hatred. No...no...he didn't want that. "I am sorry" Misaki's voice echoed in the walls of the dark stony well.
"I am sorry...I really am but I cannot help you...you are a traitor...and traitors should not be helped" his eyes looked dazed" Mikoto san told me so...sorry...Saru you...I cannot help you."
He wanted to cry out" Am I not important?"But he didn't instead he let go off the ribbon. He was falling again...his hand was scarred and burned but it did not hurt anymore...his existence was worthless.
Then suddenly he stopped. His consciousness had started to slip off...he felt dizzy and lightheaded...something...something was pulling him out of the darkness towards that big hole of light. Another ribbon...a shimmering blue one. The intense light dazzled his eyes as he felt himself out of the well in the light. His vision cleared slowly. He can feel no ground beneath him...like he was flying. He saw two thin yet strong arm clasped around his waist holding him high like a child playing and being held high by a grown up...only here he was no longer a seven year old child but a 19 year old man and the person in front of him was none other than his king.
The surrounding was white...simply white...nothing else with only him and his king. Munakata Reisi was smiling gently at him with eyes filled with love and care staring at him with fondness as the warmth of his hands spread over his cold...very cold body...Reisi said something but before he could hear it the alarm went on.
Saruhiko reached for the alarm but it was out of his reach. At last he got up pushing up his blankets; he turned off the alarm and stretched himself out like a cat on his bed. It has been a very long time since he had got such a good-night-sleep...
Fushimi dragged himself drowsily into the office. He didn't know how to face Reisi and he was dying of nervousness. I just kissed him...it's just one kiss...quit acting like a virgin he tried to scold himself as he burned a hole in the marble floor. Unfortunately he didn't see the danger lurking behind him.
Awashima Seri grasped Fushimi by his collar from behind.
"There you are I have been searching for you since morning I think you remember about the promise you made yesterday. Fushimi look lost.
Awashima did not wait for a reply but instead dragged him out into his cube.
His cube looked like an extensive desert of paperwork. Wherever he looked there were papers and only papers from bright white to dull yellow. He picked up one of the yellow ones and it almost crumbled to dust.
"Looks like there are a lot of treasure maps lying around here or maybe I am lucky enough to find something that can change the course of history maybe"
"Quit joking and get to work"
"Seriously I am not joking: just how old do you think these papers are...maybe of 2000 B.C or maybe Jurassic age."
"These are only 15 years old, and you have to review the budget of the past 15 years and submit it within 3 weeks"
"Ha-ha...ha-ha! You must be seriously joking with me" he laughed dryly "you can't be serious right?
"Of course I am NOT joking at all...You yourself promised me that you'll do any work I assign to you today...didn't you?"
"I don't remember such a thing"
"Does it actually matter...I am your superior and you'll have to do it that's all there is to it... Hey! Domiyoji you're assigned to the case 156 today...you better start working or you'll never finish."She walked towards the cube number 15 to get a hold of the lazing Domiyoji.
"Oh! And don't forget to get of each 5 year bunch reviewed and signed by the Captain. It requires the signature for affirmation"
"Eh? What?"
But she was gone.
He blamed his fate and hoped the king doesn't get to know about his perverted deed as started with the report.
It was nearly 5pm in the afternoon when he actually finished his first draft of budget review of the past five years. He collected his papers and clipped them together. He gathered the necessary files and made his way towards the king's office.
He confirmed the security checks and stepped in front of the large office door. He entered the lobby and that is when he saw him.
Suoh Mikoto.
He hated that man. He hated his naivety, hated his failed leadership, his whims, his kindness but above all he hated his color. He despised his color...he loathed the color red. He is the one to snatch away his everything...everything his friend, his love, his happiness and that Red...it snatched away his family and all that have remained.
He saw him sitting in a cushion at the kotatsu opposite to Munakata smoking a cigarette. The smoke rose higher in patterns before dissolving into thin air. He didn't enter he stood there at a sidewall hearing their conversations.
"It's good to see you after so long; I thought you have already forgotten me"
"Hmmm..." Suoh didn't say anything.
"So how's it all going?"
"..."
"..."
"Let's get straight to the point..."
"And what is the point?'
"I still can't get over you...and I want to continue with our relationship"
Munakata chocked some tea but otherwise he seemed unmoved by the sudden confession.
"As straight forward as usual I see" he chuckled dryly.
"Huh? Was that an insult or a compliment?"
"As you take it"
Suoh got up. He went to Reisi's side and stood there looking down at him.
"It's no use Suoh...I already have someone...let's face it...its useless"
" ..."
"Suoh ..."
"He is never going to look at you...He also has someone...you know that...don't you?"
"Yeah I know...its okay"
"How come it's okay...How long are you planning to drag this unrequited love of yours?"
"I said it's okay...I'll wait for him" he replied calmly.
"..."
"..."
Suoh didn't say anything he just bent down and unexpectedly kissed him.
"I'll wait too"
With that he left like a gale leaving the astonished Munakata sitting on the cushion alone in his large office.
Fushimi walked down the pedestal towards his home. His instincts were right. There was something going on between the clan leaders. Today he confirmed it...The Great Wild Red King is in love with The Wise Blue King...funny isn't it? He unconsciously laughed out. Some pedestrians looked at him before resuming on their own pace.
He walked and walked until he reached the little bridge that stood over a small rivulet. The sky instead of purplish orange was brilliant scarlet with a fiery red glow. The dying rays fell upon the skyscrapers and tress putting them on flames. The amber glow washed the bridge, the rivulet, the small roadside shops and the pedestrians like an act of baptizing them.
The scarlet reminds him of many things. The red Ferrari his family had...cap his uncle gave him...the red ball he shared with that little boy...those red leather shoes of her aunt...the bloody gash he had as a child on his cheek...Misaki Yata...Mikoto Suoh...his violent flames...his own flames and a few fragments of horrible memories.
The first one is what he saw when he entered the bathroom that night. He thought he heard a the scream of the little boy...he went to see what happened...and what he saw there was vividly imprinted on his mind which gave him many a sleepless nights and nightmare still now. The tap was turned on a water flowed into the gutter at rapid speed but it was not colorless but a deep shade of scarlet. The source was the unfortunate little boy whose lifeless body lied crumpled in one of the corners his eyes wide open in horror. He knew it was his entire fault...he shouldn't have let him have that...he is the cause of his death. It should have been him not that boy lying there...he was afraid frightened and trembled at the sight...he was only seven year old...helpless and didn't know how to keep himself alive. He ran...he ran as far as his feet could take him until he fell into that dark...dark...deep...abandoned well in the forest...
Fushimi shook his head in an attempt to clear his thoughts. He walked as fast as he could almost running and tripping until he reached home.
When he entered his room somehow it felt cold unlike yesterday...his bed hard and cold...he was lonely...so...lonely...he can't escape...he has already entangled himself in the cobweb of his dark lonely past memories...no one...no one...can help him now...he was never actually out of that well...he is still living in it...and will continue to live their until his last breathe and no one cants pull him out.
