Chapter 4: Horrible

"'Black Jack is the Devil'..." Hilda took a sip of her coffee and explained pensively. "Those were Father's last words."

Silence filled the already empty cafeteria. Hilda seemed to be lost in her own world whereas Oga thought about her words over and over again. Since her eyes were locked on her coffee absentmindedly, he had the chance to observe here carefully. Oga could tell that the woman in front of him was around his age in her early twenties. Although she was wearing plain clothes, jeans and a fitting blue jacket with a white tight shirt, she was still looking as gorgeous as yesterday. Her cold behavior and the mysterious aura around her made her even more attractive. Only the frown on her face flattered the image.

Her frown was a clear sign of her seriousness. She intended to avenge her father's death no matter what.

Oga let out the breath that he was holding unconsciously until now. He leaned back a little and looked up at the ceiling. "What are you gonna do if you find him?"

Hilda looked up at him and seemed to be surprised. His voice interrupted her thoughts.

Oga darted his eyes lazily on hers again and repeated. "I mean 'Black Jack'..."

"Isn't it obvious?" Her expression became even more serious than before. "I'm going to kill him!" She put her free hand on the weapon around her waist. "With Father's own gun."

Oga recognized the gun from their second encounter earlier when he tackled her. He closed his eyes and tried to avoid her gaze for a moment. "You can't shoot a person just like that." When she arched a daring brow at him, he explained further. "Being a cop doesn't mean you can kill people at your whim."

She chuckled wryly. "Don't teach me my job, smart-ass! I am very aware of what being a police officer means. Compared to your easy-going attitude, it's not like a RPG to me. Why have you become a police officer yourself anyway?!"

Although her words were irritating him, Oga didn't react. He sensed that the topic was a sore spot for her and didn't push his luck further. Yet, he had to answer her question. "'Cos you can kick dipshits' asses without being at fault...!" he grinned whereas she returned a glare. "Besides, it's the only thing I can do."

"Tch... imbecile fool!" she hissed under her breath and turned away.

This time, he didn't let slide her insult away though. "Sure! Jumping on people you don't know, you're the reasonable one among us...!" he rolled his eyes.

Hilda blinked at that with a loss for words. When she looked farther away from him, Oga knew that their first encounter had a remarkable impact on her, too. "Hmpf, that doesn't bear a meaning! Don't tell me you were thinking about it all this time..."

Now, her indifference dumbfounded him. "What?!"

She looked back at him, emotionless. "I was pursuing those bastards, too, and you've almost blown my cover there and ruined my mission. I needed a diversionary tactic and you just happened to be there."

Listening to her vindication pissed him off and he gritted his teeth. "So it could have been anyone else in my place!" he thought.

"Besides..." she shut her eyes and finished calmly. "You are a horrible kisser."

That was it. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. "You don't say! You've been enjoying it to your heart's content, duh!" he yelled furiously.

Her eyes grew wide at that statement, her cheeks becoming darker. "W-what?!" She leaned over the table, her fists clenched on the table, and shouted. "Such conceit knows no bounds!"

"Just prove it then!" Oga also leaned over the table and grabbed for her fists with one hand. The other one reached for her chin and pulled her closer to his mouth. They weren't in the most comfortable position while both of them were still sitting on their chairs and the solid table between them was pressing painfully their belly. However, it felt like a mosquito bite compared to the longing pain he was enduring until that very moment. It all happened in a split second as she made him see red, but as soon as their lips met, the color behind his eyes became more vivid as if fire or lava was engulfing him from tip to toe.

Oga didn't know since when he was obsessed with that foreign woman unconsciously. However, the tender feeling of her lips on his – the same tenderness which he met yesterday – he had desired for it since then. It seemed as if that woman was causing her a different kind of pain which could only be eased by herself. Moreover, he was certain of one thing:

Hilda liked it as much as he did.

She kissed him back as intensely as he did as if it was a power struggle between them that neither wanted to lose. After a good minute, which felt much longer, he let go of her and rested his forehead on hers. He took a deep breath – an amount of her lavender smell – and slowly opened his eyes. The woman in front of him panted heavily. A visible sign of their passionate kiss stood on her swollen lips.

Seeing that, a satisfied smirk made its way on Oga's face. "Who was the horrible one again?!"

Hilda opened her eyes hesitatingly and was annoyed to see his smug expression. "You." she responded although her insult wasn't affecting him much at the moment. She could only think of one way to get rid of that bothersome grin.

She repeated with a scowl. "You're the horrible one." Promptly, she freed one hand, putting it on his cheek and kissed him anew. This time, she didn't kiss him angrily as if she was trying to prove him something. No, this time, she kissed him softly and enjoyed the feeling of kissing him.

COUGH-COUGH!

Oga recognized his partner's arrival before even looking up. Begrudgingly, he parted from his counterpart and asked in a displeased tone. "What is it, Furuichi?!"

"O-Oga..." stuttered a different voice.

Oga and Hilda turned around simultaneously and saw the bluenette next to the silver-head. Oga watched the horrified faces of his pale friends when Hilda turned back to him and asked disinterestedly. "Who is she?"

It didn't take Oga long to reply. "My girlfriend."

A/N: This chapter was supposed to proceed differently but this is how I've wanted to end it. Some readers asked for the reason why Oga has become a police officer. I haven't put much thought of it since there wasn't a special meaning. For Hilda's case, Saotome has already explained that she has stepped into her father's shoes.

Two more chapters to go... or maybe three. Please don't hate me for updating slowly or for the length of the chapters. However, if the chapters are short and I (rarely) have time to write, I can do it quickly and post it within a day.

I hope that you've enjoyed this one. I have to go back studying some more (two weeks until vacation!) but I'd be glad to read your reviews.

See you next time! Until then, have a look at my previous Beelzebub stories if you haven't already read them...
