"Champion Red of Kanto and Champion Kotone of Johto have just arrived to their press conference in Goldenrod City to make a special announcement regarding-"
"Dammit, those two are at it again." huffed Gold in exasperation upon seeing the faces of his longtime friend, Kotone, and the guy he didn't know much about, Red, the estranged champion of the Kanto league who'd come back down to society about eight months ago.
As of recently, the two had been all over the news, making headlines just by going out for lunch, and they'd been the topic of almost every conversation.
Gold didn't quite know what was going on between those two but he was curious.
"Suck it up." Silver, Kotone's rival with flaming hair, grumbled.
Truth be told, he was rather exhausted of hearing about Kotone and Red's latest 'event' all the time. The pig-tailed girl hadn't made time for him once since she and Red became friends.
It was driving him crazy, because he absolutely needed a battle... and just her company, because dammit the girl had really grown on him!
Gold and Silver had accidentally bumped into each at Olivine City, and now were both watching the broadcast from a cushy Ecruteak restaurant. Though neither of them wanted to admit it, they were good comrades. Gold wasn't that great of a battle opponent. Kotone took up that role.
"Know what this is about?" wondered Gold amiably.
Silver shrugged and crossed his arms over his chest, fully convinced that he didn't care about whatever Kotone was doing. But... the fact that he was here, surrounded by people wearing 'Champion Kotone Fan Club' shirts proved otherwise.
In addition, it wasn't everyday that they called their own public announcements. Kotone wasn't into that sort of meaningless stuff, and Red had probably said a total of eight words in the past eight months so...
"More moo-moo milk?" asked a waitress pleasantly. Silver narrowed his eyes at the grinning image of Kotone in a Miltank hat displayed on the cup. He shook his head.
What an image. Kotone didn't really like Miltanks all that much and he had reason to believe that seeing this would kill her. He smirked quietly to himself, coughing into his fist when Gold stared at him cryptically. Silver turned his attention back over to the screen.
"Alright, everyone, everyone..." Kotone was tying to get everyone to quiet down, whomever was present at the press conference, but to no avail. She puffed up her cheeks.
From beside him, Gold winced. "Oh, she's about to blow."
"HEY!" yelled Kotone. All at once, the entire gathered audience ceased moving, heck, maybe even breathing at her sudden outburst.
Gold snickered, "There it is." He was painfully aware of her ability to command attention.
But there were only a handful of people who knew first-hand what it felt like to have her words explode in their ears. Silver's ears stung at the very memories.
"Thanks!" She chirped, as though she hadn't just given people hearing loss. "So, Red and I have decided that we're going to split responsibility of the Johto and Kanto Pokemon League equally!"She went on to debunk the allegations of one of them surpassing the other as neither were planning to do so.
"This kid." Silver shook his head. It wasn't really all that important, they already did everything together. What was this one more thing?
"What brought along this decision?" A reporter asked amidst the camera flashes and excited calls from the public.
"Oh, that's easy!" She giggled, turning to Red, "Actually we're-"
"How do you plan to run each other's league?"
"Is there any word on merging both leagues?"
"Are you plotting a takeover?"
With each additional question, Kotone's expression became more and more unsure. Beside her, Red did not seem as bothered. He took a sip of his water and waited patiently for the muddled questions to cease.
Gold grimaced, "Ah, jeez, she's gonna do something rash." He knew his childhood friend, and she just wasn't the type to be docile and quiet under any circumstance. Especially now since she must have felt threatened by the onslaught of questions.
Silver nodded. "Think she'll get Pidgeot and run?"
"I think she might start yelling until they do." He muttered. Silver snorted in reply.
Instead, Red was the one to act. He rolled his eyes, stood up and reached out to Kotone, wrapping both his arms around her shoulders. As she was several inches shorter than he was, Red had to bend down a bit to meet her gaze, and just like that, he pressed his lips against hers in a gentle kiss.
He effectively killed not only every question but also conversation altogether as the entire hall went silent. From the other side of the television, it seemed to have the same effect.
Silver and Gold stared in shock, mouths agape. There was no more talk for the longest while.
A few days later, while relaxing in the safety of Kotone's childhood home, the pig-tailed champion puffed up her cheeks at the headline that was being displayed across her television, "Red, do you think we went too far?" It hadn't been her decision to make out on live television; it was his. But neither were complaining about the outcome. This just eliminated the girls after Red and the boys after Kotone.
He shook his head, calmly flipping through the channels, but at almost every station that he turned to, the same image was plastered on the screens.
Kotone squeaked, covering both her cheeks as she went beet red.
He'd caught her off guard and her eyes hadn't even closed until the very last second. She looked so amateur compared to Red, who appeared completely okay with the intimacy. "Not fair!" She scowled, "You look so... so, cool!' She tossed her pillow at his head. "I look like a loser!"
Red chuckled and after running his hand across her head, pressed another softer kiss to her lips.
This time, she was ready, and this time, she closed her eyes just as he did, and the obnoxious gossip channel was drowned out amidst their passionate kiss.
The End :)
