A/N: Hey guys. Many of you asked me to update this story. Originally I was planning on leaving it open ended but decided that I would do another chapter because everyone is so sweet in their reviews. So here it is. Hope you like it.
She stands at the door. Staring at him lying in the hospital bed. This time it's different. This time he's awake and this time he's calling out to her. "Sweet Baby..." he says, relief, hope, uncertainty and pain clouding his beautiful alive voice. Her heart constricts as she stands there and she feels the tears make their way to her eyes...but she can't move. She knows that if she does she'll just break down and sob uncontrollably. That she would get so angry that he took so long to wake up, that he made her think that he was going to leave her behind...and that she'd slap him and keep on doing so. So she stands. She stands at the door hugging herself, saying nothing. Just staring, taking in his curly brown hair, the grey of his eyes, his hand holding onto the side of the hospital bed. She stares at him whilst trying to keep her tears at bay, praying that this was not a dream and that he was really staring at her with his stormy eyes.
He watches her from his bed for a while...giving her some reprieve from the turmoil threatening to spill over again...and then he says the one thing that would send her flying into his arms...that would make her forger her anger and everything else. "Hi". She crushes herself against his chest as he opens his arms and pulls her onto the bed with him, not caring about the possible pain such an action might cause his body. She's sobbing, violent tears racking her body, so he simply tightens his arms around her and kisses her head over and over. On every open surface and available space. Somewhere in the back of her mind the irony of the situation makes itself known – she was supposed to be consoling him and not the other way around – but as soon as the thought appears it's gone again. Her hands are fisted into the front of his hospital gown, clawing onto him as if for dear life.
"Oh Livvie...Livvie...Livvie" she hears him mumble against her head, feeling silent tears rolling down his face and landing on her head and the side of her face. His tears are not for him, but for her. For everything that he has ever put her through, for letting her go countless times, for causing this brokenness in his arms – even if it was not completely his fault – but if he did not love her and let her love him in return then she'd be okay. He feels guilt for reducing Olivia to such a weeping mess. "I'm sorry baby...I'm so sorry" he whispers in her ear, tightening his hold even more. He feels her breath hitch as his words, at the contact of his mouth and apology on her head. He feels her slowly trying to regain her composure before she looks at him with wet and red eyes, her hands still gripping him.
"It's not your fault baby." She says sincerely, finally raising her beautiful red eyes to his, making sure he knows that she truly believes that. Then he kisses her and she lets him. She lets him because he's alive. She lets him because she needs him and she missed him during this unsure time. She lets him because she loves him. She doesn't care that what they are doing is wrong and risky. She doesn't care that Mellie is waiting outside the door and that a doctor can walk in at any time catch them in the act. All she cares about is this man holding and kissing her...about being in this single moment with him. His tongue runs across her bottom lip, begging for entrance and so she grants him that. She groans as his tongue makes contact with hers and they dual for dominance. She finally lets him win and she feels his smile against her lips, before he kisses her again.
A while later she pulls back slightly and she hears him whine from the loss of contact. She smiles slightly, loving the sound, a sound that only comes from someone that was alive. He brings his hand to her cheek and runs his fingers over her cheekbone. His eyes are full of love and awe and they're only directed at her. She places her hands on his lips, feeling his breath and he slightly kisses her fingers. "I was so scared..." she whispers, seeing a flash of guilt in his eyes before it disappears. "I know..." he simply says. "I love you baby" she says as she places her hands in his hair, running her fingers through his curls now. "I promised I would let you know if you woke up". He smiles at her admission, this moment meaning the world to him. Olivia was never this forthcoming with her emotions so this moment was important.
"I just...I just can't go on without you..." she looks down as she says this, not liking her weakness to be displayed like this. He places his hand under her chin, pulling her face up to meet his. "Livvie, Sweet Baby, I'm not going anywhere. I love you too much to ever leave you. I will always fight to come back to you. You are the love of my life". He sees the tears in her eyes again so he kisses each eyelid as he wipes them away. "Don't cry baby...I hate to see you cry." He chokes out. She pulls herself flush against him, her arms hold herself tightly against him, his hands running up and down her back, ever so often going into her hair and she lays her head against his chest. "What are we going to do?" she mumbles against his throat.
For a while he's quiet, the question running through his head. "I'm not completely sure yet babe, but we'll figure it out. If there is one thing you can be sure of it's that I choose you...I will always choose you...and I will be getting a divorce, so we can be together, get married and have loads of curly haired chubby babies with your beautiful mind heart". He says determinedly. He feels her laughing slightly against him and his heart expands and beams. He hasn't heard her laughter in a while. "As long as these chubby babies have your charm and smile." And he smiles, knowing that Olivia just gave him the go ahead on the plan that had been in the works from the beginning. From the first time he had laid eyes on her. The plan that would free him from his constraints and let him live the life he had always wanted, with her, his Sweet Baby, on his side, not stopping him anymore.
As he kisses her again, Olivia feels the love for this man run through her whole body. They have a long way to go. His recovery was the most important thing at this moment, but later, when he's up and he's back running the country – in his rightful place – she was going to be there every step of the way, helping him become free from his marriage so that they could finally start the final part of their story together. Passion and contentment takes hold in her heart and she cannot help but think about the beautiful chubby babies that he promised her. Her heart fills with love and excitement for her future.
A/N: I hope you all thought it was good and that it is a fitting ending. Lemme know what you think! :)
