Chapter 4

Castiel arrived in the motel room in a flurry of papers. Sam started to catch them before they could settle on the floor.

'I came as soon as I heard,' Castiel said. 'Actually I came as soon as I felt him. He's been hiding from me for a while, you made him visible.' He looked pensive and concerned. 'Did he harm you in any way?'

'We're fine, Cas,' Dean said, surprised at the angel's concern. They stared at each other for a moment.

'So who's this rogue angel?' Sam wondered.

'You know him, don't you Cas?' dean said.

Castiel didn't answer but his eyes grew wide.

'Come on, Cas! If there's some badass angel around here, we need to know what you know.' Dean said sternly.

Cas signed, 'I knew him a long time ago, we fought together, side by side.' He lowered his head and rubbed his forehead, 'I lost touch with him a few years ago.' Castiel looked up, 'I should have noticed, but I was distracted.' That was aimed at Dean, who knew it. Dean shook his head.

'Ok,' Sam interjected, 'So why's your old angel buddy holding up in the middle of nowhere?'

'Yeah, Cas, what does an angel want in a small town like this one?' Dean asked.

'I don't know,' Castiel replied, 'But if he's hidden from me, he doesn't want to be found. I'll need your help to flush him out.'

'Woah there, Cas!' Dean said, 'We didn't come here to get in the middle of an angel bitch fight! That never goes well.' He sat down on the bed.

Castiel gave him an exasperated look and then vanished in a swoop of his wings.

'I think you annoyed him,' Sam said quietly.

'Huh?' Dean remarked, 'We need to find out who's killing those people before it gets messy around here.'
