I don't own the little vampire
Chapter 4
I looked over the kitchen table at Tony; he was searching determinedly through a book of crests. Grinning I remembered our conversation from the night before; I'd been reading when he'd jumped veer window back into his room. I'd regretted almost immediately letting him go. What had I been thinking? Was I crazy, I think the shock of seeing a vampire had stopped my brain from working? All the time he'd been gone I'd been coming up with scenarios of what would happen if he didn't come back. What would I say to Mum and Dad? Where would I look for him? Well, I'd look for a cemetery I suppose, and what would I do if he was a vampire? Or if I met the vampire family? After my relived greetings and his insistence that he was ok, he began to tell me what had happened and about something called the Stone of Attomon. That, Tony had insisted to me excitedly is what's going to turn the vampire's human, and what he's been dreaming about since we'd moved in. Then Rudolph's parents had showed up. Tony described how Rudolph protected him from his brother Gregory, who had tried to bite him. Rudolph's dad had thought he was a spy, but thankfully had been convinced otherwise by Rudolph and his Mum. Then the weirdo who had tried to run Tony over and had helped me in the supermarket had turned up.
I liked this guy less and less, he'd tried to kill Rudolph's dad and then tried to attack my brother! Considering all they've been through Rudolph's dad doesn't sound so bad, he might act a bit unpleasant and mistrustful of anything that moves but who can blame him? He obviously cares for his family and does whatever he can to protect them. What I don't get is, instead of him just standing around why hadn't he just taken his family and ran? Instead of telling them to run but just standing there himself, what was the point in that? (Pun not intended) if Tony hadn't intervened he would have got skewered. I was pretty impressed with my little brother, which I didn't hesitate to tell him. I mean Tony hadn't known Rudolph's family for that long, and even then they weren't very hospitable, he'd still put his life on the line to help them. Tony then described how he'd fallen into the Sackville Bagg's lair, where he'd had a premonition after he'd touching Mr Sackville Bagg's necklace, the mention of the necklace got my attention most of all for some reason.
I'd curiously asked Tony to describe the necklace to me; by the sound of it, it looked exactly like the one the weirdo had been wearing. I'd interrupted Tony with a question of my own, what did the necklace do? Tony had explained that the Sackville Bagg's necklace turned them human but the other necklace sent them to hell. Getting back to the vision, Tony had described how half way through the ceremony a vampire slayer had turned up and tried to take the stone but he'd accidentally hit the stone off the cliff instead Rudolph's uncle, Von Sackville Bagg's had jumped after it. But instead of dying like they thought he had washed up on a beach, where a pretty young woman in a red clock with a wired coat of arms had found him. The thing is if he 'had' survived maybe he'd managed to grab the stone too? Hence the reason why Tony was looking through the book.
Mum came in and told Tony it was time for school.
"Liz what are you up to today?"
"Well I was thinking of going into the village, looking around the shops."
"Oh, Mum said "I'll give you a lift if you want"
"Yes please, thank you" I grinned; I'd planned to walk into town later, but now was just as good. Jumping up I got my bag from where it was hung on my chair and followed mum out to the car.
"Shot gun" Me and Tony shouted and ran for the front seat. Tony got there first
"Damm" I muttered getting into the back seat. After Mum had dropped Tony off at school, we drove into town.
"Do you want a lift back? I'll be hanging around for a while, I need to get Tony some new school trousers" Mum said
"Na, its ok I'll walk back."
"Are you sure?" Mum asked as she pulled over.
"Yeah, thanks" I said getting out the car
"Ok, see you later."
"See ya, thanks for the lift." I said closing the door and stepping onto the path.
I walked around for a while browsing though the shops, not seeing anything that particularly caught my interest. I was just coming out of the sweet shop when I saw the wanna be vamp slayer coming out of the electrics store. I debated going in and asking the shop assistant what he brought but choose not to in the end. Not only would it look weird, but also pointless. I mean it could have nothing to do with vampires at all, for all I know he could have bought a light bulb. He had enough lights on his car, but looking at him as he staggered back to his truck obviously carrying something heavy I doubted very much that it was something that mundane. He must have known someone was watching him because he turned and looked at me; he put the bag of whatever he'd been carrying in his truck and walked over.
"I remember you, you where the girl from the store."
I smiled awkwardly
"Yeah, hi" I said
"My names Rookery" he held out his hand
"Um, I'm Liz" I said taking his hand and shaking it quickly
"Tell me Liz, do you believe in vampires?"
I cringed inwardly
"Ermm, No?" I was unsure of how to answer not wanting to look suspicious but not wanting to be rude either.
"Well you should, dark things run amok at night, dark things that wouldn't feel bad at sinking their teeth into someone as young and pretty as yourself" He said bluntly
"Oh" was my rather lame response.
I looked at his necklace it was old looking from what I could see there seemed to be no clasp, so it would have to be pulled other his head. I looked over his shoulder a few kids were eyeing his truck, a plan probably not a very good, or clever began to form in my mind
"What's that?" I asked pointing at the necklace.
"This!" he said pointing at the necklace, "This is what will get rid of the vermin (By that I think he meant vampire's) "in the end."
"Oh how, can I look at it?" I asked hopefully he paused for a moment and looked at me cautiously; I looked him in the eye and tried to look as innocent as possible. Thinking for a moment probably debating wherever I was trust worthy or not he took the necklace off from around his neck, holding it up so I could see it more closely. I looked other his shoulder at the kids, luckily I knew these kids from school they were well known trouble makers. Rumors had been going around that they had stolen a car once, and by the way they were looking at Rookery's truck they might do it again. The truck might look weird but the headlights alone would have all probably cost a pretty penny, god knows what else he's got in there.
"What's it made from?" I asked genuinely curious as I grabbed it to stop it from spinning and looked at it carefully
"It's made from what was left of a comet that hit the earth."
"Oh" I said and looked over his shoulder, if Rookery had not been facing me; I would have laughed in glee. The kids had taken the bait and where now cautiously walking over to the car and where experimentally pulling at his headlights.
"Hey", I said quickly, "I think those kids are trying to nick your headlights!" Rookery had been so busy making sure that I suddenly try to pull the necklace out of his hand and do a runner that he hadn't been paying attention to his truck. He frowned and looked over his shoulder, I quickly looked around there was a small alley to the left of me, luckily I know where it went, I often like to explore my surroundings and I was VERY good at remembering places,
"Hey!" he shouted his grip lessened on the necklace slightly 'Yes!'
"Sorry!" I yelled, not giving him the chance to even look back at me before I kicked him as hard as I could in the shin, and then tugged at the necklace, hard. His grip had lessened more in surprise at the sudden attack then in pain which made it easier to pull away. I stumbled slightly as I rushed backwards; obviously not wanting to stick around and see his reaction I turned around and legged it as fast as I could.
Quickly I ran down the alley and like I expected I come to a small cross roads with other ally's leading out of it. Quickly choosing the left path, I raced down it not daring to look back; fear and excitements making me run faster. I ran down the path until I come to a low wall which I quickly vaulted over, and ran as quickly as I could across the fields. I know that if I kept on running I'd come to a fence which if I went through would cut across a field, the road which went past my house was on the other side. I did this with ease; stopping when I come to the road. I had to be careful Rookery could just drive past while trying to look for me which would of made all that running pointless or he could go a different way completely after all, he had no idea which direction I'd gone in once I'd lost him in town.
I peeked carefully through the fence and looked up and down the road. I was glad I'd worn my blue jeans and long sleeved top and boots because it made running across fields a lot easier, I also thanked my lucky stars I didn't buy any books. I could either take the road and risk Rookery or walk across the fields which would take longer but I wouldn't be near any roads and I'd be pretty much out of sight from any vehicle should they happen to drive by. I quickly chose the fields. Call me a wimp but the idea of meeting Rookery on the roads was less appalling then getting a bit muddy and having to walk a bit longer.
When I got in it was pretty late, Mum, Dad and Tony where out. So I made myself a quick dinner and headed to the stairs. Picking up Dianna on the way, rolling my eyes when she decided to attack me biting and scratching I was hoping playfully. Hence reason I was wearing long sleeves. I know she was only playing I'm assuming because she wasn't with her mother long enough she didn't learn how to play. Still didn't make my arm feel any better. I chucked a toy at her to keep her occupied as I picked up my pajama bottoms and a very un-matching long top. After a much needed shower stick my up into a messy bun, not bothering to use the hairdryer (Again) I sighed looking at the scratches on my hands and arms, 'Well, doesn't this look nice' I thought. Laughing lightly as I walked back into my room and jumped onto into bed Dianna jumping up onto my stomach and soon falling asleep, I smiled at how cute she looked, looking around for my camera only, to my annoyance, see it at the other end of the room 'Damm' I thought 'Little brat waited till I couldn't reach it' Yawing I switched the light off successfully not disturbing Dianna as I did so 'I'll have to speak to Tony in the morning , unless I wake up when they get back' I thought sleepily. (A.N, Don't ask me where they've gone, don't know. Made it up because it was easier for me, writers license an all that)
I opened my eyes groggily 'What time is it?' I thought looking at the clock, it was 11pm 'oh hell' I rubbed my eyes and sat up disturbing Dianna who had been curled up next to me. Grumbling grumpily I got off my bed. Opening my door quietly I walked down stairs and stumbled into the kitchen. I felt something brush against my legs Dianna looked at me.
"What?" I asked the cat she meowed at me as if to say why did you wake me up and come down here for? To show her annoyance she started chewing on my feet. Quickly moving my feet out of biting range I got a glass of water downing it in one go. Opening the fridge; I winced as I felt Dianna's claws in my back as she climbed up onto my shoulder. I began looking for the oranges I'd seen Mum put in earlier, what can I say I have a craving. In the end I lifted Dianna off with one hand because she was about to fall off, to repay me for her rescue she started to bite my hand viciously. Wincing I glared down at her
"If you don't stop biting me I'll bite your ear" I warned the cat, Dianna looked at me then whacked my face with her paw I laughed and put her down onto the floor and took two oranges out the fridge. Shutting the fridge door I turned and come face to face with the boy I met in the field before, I shouted in surprise and jumped back, tripping over Dianna as I did, so for the second time this week I fell flat on my back on the floor.
Right, if you've read my story the first time I uploaded it, which was quite a while ago thinking about it, you'll (Hopefully) notice I've changed a few things, I've changed how Liz gets the necklace so hopefully now it should be a little bit better and slightly more realistic, if your reading this for the first time you can imagine how bad it was BEFORE I'd edited it, not much of the actual story has changed, it's just that it's been edited a bit and the chapters have been shortened :-P If you haven't read this before then thank you for reading and if you have then thank you for continuing to read! Sorry if it's crap :-)
