Over the vastness of the city, the Fenris wolf felt a pair of magical eyes on him.
A certain pair of sapphire blue, serious, callous eyes.
" I know your watching me, Idunn." He said softly, feeling a bit of playfulness surge within his chest.
He did so enjoy a good hunt, his fear for returning to Asgard had since left him, now that he had something to fight for again.
His dear, sweet Tess.
He had not held true to his promise to stop following her, and though he was by no means proud for having lied to her,
He felt justified, as he was only thinking of her safty, as a good brother should.
But as for Idunn, Fenrir could already guess the trouble she'd cause him, and chances were that she had already informed the triad of goddesses, her allies Gaea, otherwise known as "mother earth" and Frigga, the Queen of Asgard, of his whereabouts, and send someone to hunt him like a common beast.
He would patiently await that time, after all, he was back to most of his original strength, now that Gleipnir no longer held in in its vice.
I do indeed long for vengeance against them.
An image of Frigga flashed briefly in his mind.
He shook his head violently.
All of them! He thought to himself, gritting his fanged teeth!
He hated thinking of her, the damn wife to the one he was destined to kill!
She would often visit him in his youth, whispering such sweet lies in his ear, that they were family, that he had nothing to fear from her, she showed him kindness, kindness that Fenrir felt just desperate enough to believe,
He especially had him fooled when she did him the good grace of introducing him to his younger half brothers...
START OF FLASHBACK.
A light breeze danced along the grassy planes of Asgard, the sun shone brightly, sending a sense of joy to all whole look upon the glorious glen.
But to Fenrir, there was no joy to be given, the pleasant elements brought him no joy.
He only spent his lonely days laying behind a large, cold stone, thinking of his ruined family, and hating the one who put him here...
" You are indeed an absent minded young pup, you are." Tyr said casually as he approached the wolf.
Fenrir's solid gold eyes darkened with each step his alleged "Uncle" took.
" What brings you here, my dear lord Tyr?" He asked, lifting up his head, his fur shining in the sun light.
" You know why, Fenrir." He answered with a surprising tone of empathy in his normally stoic voice.
The wolf god scoffed.
" Here to play another "game" I trust?" He asked bitterly.
" No, you need to eat at some point, or you'll waste away." The god of war retorted, placing a large plate of meat before him.
" Thou would enjoy that, would thee not? To see me die and rot?!" He seethed between his fangs.
Things then fell silent between the two.
Two weeks had past since Tyr had tricked him into wearing this blasted magical bind, his blood was still fresh in his mouth, he could still even taste the flesh between his teeth.
And his hate still had not abided.
Tyr sighed and sat on a small rock a few feet from Fenrir.
Fenrir had took notice of the still wrapped wrist where his hand used to be.
" I told you I was sorry." Tyr replied.
" Ha! The god of war, sorry? For a loathsome cur like I? I could laugh myself sick!" He laughed.
Then his face darkened further," Sick at such a vile trick!"
" I just-" Tyr tried to explain.
" I don't need thou explanation and I don't need your charity, can thou not just let me rest, what would it take to give thou clarity?!" Fenrir snapped!
" Fenrir, I do wish that there was a way to convince you that I am sorry." Tyr said sadly.
" There isn't." Was all the Wolf said.
Before Tyr could reply, he and Fenrir both heard someone approach.
The wolf recognized the scent.
It was the Queen.
" Mother, what brings you here?" Tyr asked, standing up to greet her.
Though still heavily confused.
Fenrir was not, however, for she had visited him before, though most likely strategically in her son's absence, Fenrir still found himself at a loss in her presence, though.
" I have come to see Fenrir, and do not try to tell me otherwise, or that he will kill me if I approach, because I will not listen, and I know for certain that he will not." The Matriarch of Asgard stated sternly.
With all the nobility fitting of a Queen, Fenrir couldn't help but feel admiration for her strength.
It reminded him of his Mother...
Tyr didn't need Heimdall's all-seeing eyes to see that there was no convincing his mother otherwise now that her mind was made up.
Or that these two had met before.
It did not surprise him, it was in his mother's nature to be caring to her family, even forgiving Loki after his treachery, and Fenrir was in no way an exception.
From the moment she first looked upon him, she saw no hellhound, just her Grandson.
Tyr would allow this, after all, inspite being the god of war, this would always be a side to his mother he would never want to see disappear.
And besides, he had come to care for the wolf in time himself.
He stepped aside and let her pass.
Frigga approached her grandson, with a sweet smile present on her face.
Fenrir, however, only felt a sense of nervousness and inferiority before the majestic woman.
A Queen empathizing with a beast? Its almost laughable.
" Why do you come to one such as I, fair queen? To be seen with the monster foretold to murder thou husband, would look most obscene." Fenrir Said, hiding his anxiousness behind cocky remarks.
" I only wanted to see if you were alright, I've caught word that you've been more-" Frigga trailed off, trying to think of the proper wording.
" What? Vicious? Monsterous? Beastly? " Fenrir spitefully asked.
" Angry. Just angry, and no, not in either a beastly, nor any other way that is insulting to you, just angry in a way that someone who was wronged would be." She said calmly.
Fenrir felt that tightening feeling in his chest return," Thou is so insightful, to realize that one who has been imprisoned to a rock by a damned magic ribbon is angry? Its almost frightful!" He mocked.
A look of empathy over took her brown eyes once more.
" I understand if you resent me and everyone in Asgard for what has been done to you and your family." Frigga replied.
He promptly looked away from her, her kind eyes were starting to make his heart ache.
" Thou shall be sorry then, but it changes nothing." He whispered, still avoiding her eyes.
Tyr could hear that there was no malice in his voice that time, just, sorrow.
" I know, and I can't change what has come to pass, but if you'll let me, I wish to at the very least make your imprisonment less unbearable." Frigga requested.
" Would it not be the three people standing behind that rock?" Fenrir asked in a knowing way.
Frigga chuckled." I suppose that there's no fooling your nose."
" You'll find that I am not the easiest to shock." Fenrir replied, almost amused by the queen's attempts to make amends.
Yet, also relieved.
" Then I think you already know who they are," Frigga said as she got on her feet." Sigyn, Narvi, Vali, you can come out now." She called.
Then from behind the massive boulder stepped out a strikingly beautiful young woman in royal attire, which cued him that she was a princess,
Not that he needed the attire to know that.
The dress had varying shades of purple, with elegant golden necklace, earings, and a circlet with an emerald gem on each of them.
It did not take a genius to guess what they symbolized either.
Her hair was as yellow as the very day star in the sky, wavy and falling in tresses over her shoulders, her eyes were a most vivid crystal blue, a look of sorrow twinkling in their entrapping gaze, but also a look of preserved strength.
A look that Fenrir could see in almost every mother he comes across.
Particularly in his presence.
He knew who she was, if not for the queen's utterance of her still unforgotten name,
The look of guilt in her very eyes as she stood in his towering presence,
Or the lingering scent of her children who were still hiding from his sight behind the rock, he may have dismissed her as any other woman in Asgard, but he knew,
He knew all to well.
" Well, well, if it isn't the delicate lady Sigyn.
my apologies, lady Queen, here stands what is truly obscene." Fenrir sneered.
Before either Sigyn or Frigga could say something in her defense, out jumped a fiery haired child right before Fenrir!
" Vali! Get back here!" His mother called.
" Say that about my mother again and I'll gut you like a deer, you shaggy whelp!" The young boy shouted furiously to the bound wolf, a fierce look in his green eyes, that matched that of his father, his long flaming red hair worn loose with stray strands falling in his face.
He was truly unafraid.
Much to Fenrir's surprise!
In spite of the obvious fact that Fenrir was his superior in terms of size, strength, and most likely battle experience, there this child stood, stalwart and unfazed.
" Vali, you must not yell at him, Grandpa says that he is dangerous!" A more timid looking blonde boy, looking about the same age as the red head, said nervously.
Fenrir could not help but give a growl at hearing that, he looked to the other boy, much to the child's fright!
Fenrir slouched his firm stance a bit as not to seem anymore intimidating, which was difficult given his size, he felt a spike of guilt in his heart seeing the boy whom shared his blood flee behind his mother, he did not wish to be the source of his own brother's nightmares, but it could not be helped, with Odin spreading word of him like he were some sort of boogieman for children to fear, he was less then surprised at that notion.
Vali, taking notice of this, all at once was not quite as angry, but was still willing to defend his mother!
" Oh no." Frigga said, worried that this bad first impression would have a lingering effect on Fenrir's relationship with his Brothers.
Then, to her surprise, as well as to the surprise of his uncle and Stepmother, Fenrir broke out in an uncharacteristic fit of roaring laughter!
" What a child twas born here, to stand in the face of what would be certain demise to most, you approach without fear." The proud wolf commended his younger brother." Thou hath mine respect, for what fuels a child to protect his mother, is a strong sense of love and bravery like no other."
Vali, seeing the tension die down, relaxed a bit.
" I need not Thou respect, I do however demand an apology on my mother's behalf." He said proudly.
Fenrir, though hating the idea of giving up his pride to a child, still understodd well the need to defend your mother's honor.
" Then thou has it." Fenrir complied.
" Good." Vali stated.
Then he saw his mother give him a stern look.
Cringing under her gaze, he begrudgingly said," And its nice to finally meet you, Fenrir, I am Vali, " He introduced himself to his eldest brother, placing his hand on his chest.
And that the one cowering over there is Narvi, my twin brother." He added pointing at his shy brother nonchalantly.
" Vali, do not insult your brother, he is not a coward, he's just brave in a different way." Sigyn scolded.
" Sorry, mother." Vali said, suddenly not looking so tough.
Frigga sighed with relief.
Thank Asgard that Fenrir chose not to let his emotions rule him this time. She thought.
Fenrir felt all anger before leave him, they were his brothers, and Sigyn, the one he had always referred to simply as "The Woman" was still their mother, so for them, he would try to be civil to her.
Sigyn looked to her younger son. " Come now, Narvi, do you not wish to meet your big brother?" She asked.
In response, he peeked out slightly from behind her flowing skirt, one large blue eye and part of his blonde hair could be seen.
" Hello." He said timidly.
And at that moment, Fenrir realized that he reminded him of Hela.
Only she had a different reason to hide half of her face then just shyness.
" Hello, Narvi." Fenrir said patiently, trying to break the ice a bit.
" Go on, say something else." Sigyn said, pushing out into the open.
Narvi, walking forward slightly, still avoiding looking directly at the frightening image of his supposed brother, asked," Why are you a wolf?"
Fenrir's body stiffened at hearing that, if not for the fur he was sure that he was blushing!
" I wonder as well." Vali added curiously.
Fenrir heard Tyr snort a bit at that, thoroughly enjoying Fenrir's embarrassment.
" Oh woe!" Fenrir groaned.
Frigga, despite herself, couldn't help but chuckle a bit as well." I suppose that its a fair question." She said.
" If thou so believe it, then thou should explain it." He replied with irritated discomfort.
The answer would probably scar them both for life!
He looked to Sigyn for permission to reveal the answer.
To his chargin, she nodded in compliance with a shrug.
" They have to find out eventually." She said.
" Is this not a topic that would be best explained to by their Mother?" He asked as a last ditch effort not to answer them.
" I would, but it is not me they asked, and besides, this could be used as a way for them to better understand you." She replied, smiling sweetly.
Fenrir sighed, she was right.
The circumstances of his birth, as well as Jorg and Hela's, were, unique, and if he were to lift the frightening veil of mystery between them, it was best that he explain it.
END OF FLASHBACK.
Fenrir chuckled to himself in remembrance of that sudden and awkward question.
But in his remembrance he also felt just how much he missed the two of them.
And how he could never forgive any of them for their betrayal of him, or his brothers.
Especially Frigga.
To hold the promise of happiness before him, so close that he could almosttaste it, only to rip it away!
His hate knew no bound, as now did his body as he relished his freedom.
A smell of smoke and singed fleshed filled his sensitive nostrils!
With a gasp, he got to his feet, his heart quickening its pace in its chest!
It came from the area near Tess' apartment!
Tess was as silent as the grave as she walked along the sidewalk on her way home, with her head low.
Miyako said she was going to party with some friends, she Tess was walking home alone, which was fine,
She did not wish to speak to anyone today.
The words of that strange man still haunted her like the most frightening part of a ghost story.
Who was he really, why is there something about him that seems to draw her, to pull him into her thoughts once more?
The attraction that she thought of was not the normal kind of attraction, not of a sexual or even fascinating nature, no, it was much more closer then either, and not nearly as simple to put into words, and even harder to ignore.
She then felt that familiar feeling once again, in the deepest depths of her dreams, the silvery voice that soothed her, made her feel a sense of safety and security that she had never known at any previous point in her life, echoing in the dark, acting as the light that brought her back to the waking world.
What does it all mean?
Were the two of them connected somehow?
The faceless voice, and the wild young man?
She had a feeling that her mother could shed some light in the dark shroud of this mystery, but she knew that getting her to fess up was going to be even harder then simply seeking out the man once again.
" Well, you certainly know how to look gloomy." A voice said.
Tess looked up and saw her boyfriend, Drew.
" Drew, hey! What are you doing here?" She asked, pulling him into a hug, excited to see him.
Andrew Karlsson, age 21,
An attractive man with pale skin, wavy auburn locks reaching past his ears, and piercing dark brown eyes.
He stood taller then Tess at six feet, and wore a simple grey hoodie, and faded jeans.
" I was just on my way to visit you, then saw you walking by." He replied, hugging her back.
When they broke the hug, he looked more serious.
" I actually was going to visited you because I was worried about you."
" Why?" Tess asked.
" I heard you've been acting kind of depressed lately." Drew answered.
" Let me guess, Miyako?" She asked, annoyed.
" Well, yeah, she texted me." He confessed.
She let out an exasperated sigh, pinching the ridge of her nose.
" So you don't call me for days, barely respond when I try to get in touch with you, then appear out of nowhere when my best friend texts you?!" She demanded, started to get angry.
" Well, no, I, I'm just worried, that's all, why do you have to make this a fight?" Drew asked.
" Why did it take my friend to get you to talk to me?" Tess demanded.
" Look, I've been busy, I swear I'm not avoiding you, I just," He trailed off...
" What?" She asked.
" I, I cannot say." He replied sadly.
Tess just rolled her eyes with a scoff." Then I guess we have nothing more to say." She said bitterly as she walked past him.
" Wait, Tess." He said, grabbing her arm.
She sighed." If you know what's good for you, you'll let go of me now." She said quietly.
Feeling a sense of tread, he let go.
" Sorry." He said." But please, just let me-"
" I don't need your pity or your excuses, if you can't be up front and honest, then don't speak to me at all!" She shouted.
Then stormed off, leaving Drew standing alone.
She gave a frustrated grunt as she stomped home!
She felt a bit guilty since he probably really was worried about her, and Miyako meant no harm in telling him, she just hated feeling like she was being lied to, and Drew was clearly not being honest with her, he didn't even have the care to come up with a passable excuse!
It was probably due to her mother's dishonesty that made her this sensitive to it.
She sighed, did she really have room to talk?
She was leading a double life as a Superheroine, which naturally she had to lie about, but it was technically for her loved ones safety, so did that make it better?
No, of course it didn't.
She was just a hypocrite.
As she turned the corner to her apartment, she was shocked to see firemen in the surrounding area, then following the path of the destruction, she saw that the part that was hit the hardest was...
Central park!
" What the-" She gasped as she ran up to the scene!
" What the hell happened?!" She asked one of the policemen.
" We're not sure yet, but according witness accounts, it was like a long row of bombs went off all around, it seems likely it was a Terrorist attack."
Tess thanked the man and continued to at the damage.
There were long white sheets spread over an alarming number of scorched corpses, with more being discovered, along with the death toll, the trees were in cinders, the bridges were ashes, the ponds were dried up from the extreme heat of whatever hit it, whatever it was, she was probably the only one who could sense that this was not the work of a human...
Fenrir jumped unto the various buildings, his boots pounding as he ran, getting closer to where the smell of the damage came from, as he drew closer, he began to smell magic in the air along side the smoke!
He stopped on the top of the building where he had met with loki before, and saw to his shock, the massive simmering wasteland that used to be the only lush of green in this city of Concrete and iron!
Smoke, singed flesh and burned wood filled his nose, causing his eyes to water!
He blocked the overpowering odor with his arm.
" Tess?" He wondered," Nay, it is she, but the scent of the magic is so close, who could it be?"
A fit of crazed laughter echoed in the miles from the scene of his crime, he could not help but feel an excited rush, knowing that he had just killed at least a hundred people and got away with it!
His laughter continued.
" It serves them right!" The boy shouted, pulling back his hood!
" To be so ignorant of their weakness, they deserved to perish." He said with a grin as he watched a small flame flicker in his palm, proud of the strength of his power!
" They did not deserve that, Vali."
Vali froze upon hearing his name uttered for the first time in an age!
And that voice, he felt in heart start to pound in his chest and his blood run as cold as Jotunheim.
He turned to face him.
" F-Father?" He asked timidly.
