Chapter 4: Disappearance

"He just disappeared!" Tyson called, trying to look around for their black-haired friend but he had no luck in spotting him.

Kenny was looking around as well, "He does have a tendency of just disappearing when he wants to disappear."

Satella was placing a hand on her hip, "Well, what's the problem? If he wants to take a walk and be alone there shouldn't be a problem in that, should there?"

Tyson waved with his arms, "But it was way too weird."

Max had a worried look, "He has been awfully distant the last few days. Leaving the whole time to be alone… He doesn't usually do that, which is what worries us. We've only seen him a few times with a mood like this before, but he usually threw out a hint to what could be wrong, but now…"

"Perhaps he has a crush on a girl he can't get." Rosette suggested.

"Hardly." Tyson replied, "I've seen Rei with girls before; they are not someone taking him down this drastically."

"Then something from his past." Satella spoke. "Mourning a lost friend or so."

Kenny adjusted his glasses, "If that was the case, I think he'd be back in his home village along with the people he grew up with. And his closest childhood friends we spoke to last week, and they all seemed quite happy and not touched by any sadness."

Rosette got to ponder about this. She barely knew anything about Rei. All in all she didn't really know anything about all of these people, but still their worry made her worry.

Satella sighed deeply, "Well, what do you want to do? Search for him?"

"Yes!" Tyson and Max spoke quite quickly in unison.

Satella scoffed, "I guess we can help with the search then, see if we can find him when you're worrying this much then."

Hilary puffed her cheeks. Pfft, they didn't need that German's help. Nor the help of the Miranda chick.

Tyson grinned, "We'll gladly accept that help!"

It didn't take long before they all were off to search for Rei.

Unfortunately, they couldn't find him. He was nowhere on the premises, nor near it.

Rei heaved in a deep breath as he moved along one dark alley after another, just listening to the sounds of Chicago echoing through the alleys. It was already evening and the city was still fully awake. If this had been back in the mountains of China there would definitely had been much more silent. He sighed deeply and walked with half-lidded eyes and with hands in pockets, drifting off into his own thoughts.

It took a little while before Rei slowly came to a halt. Something was wrong. He looked around, seeing nothing. He listened.

And noticed he could no longer hear the loudly echoing sounds of Chicago City.

"…" Rei looked some more around. This couldn't be right. Something was awfully wrong.

Sinner…

Rei froze to the spot. No, this couldn't be…

Sinner…

An ice cold breeze coming from nowhere lightly grabbed onto Rei's hair, letting it sway lightly.

Sinner…

"…This can't be…" Rei whispered lowly. It was impossible… He hadn't shown himself during all those years back then, he was supposed to be thought dead of!

Sinner…

Rei clamped his jaws shut, bared his fangs and narrowed his eyes.

You can't hide any longer, Sinner…

They knew. They just somehow knew. And they were there. In Chicago. The Pursuers.

We know you're there, Sinner…

"Then come and get me if you dare, COWARDS!" Rei spat, giving in a bit too quickly to the torment.

...SINNER..!

"No word of him yet?"

"None."

Max gave a low whimper, a disappointed and worried expression on his face. Rei had now been gone for at least one whole day and they had heard nothing from him. They couldn't even call him on his cell phone as he apparently had shut it off.

Tyson was pacing a bit back and forth, "Where in the world could he be?!"

Kenny took off his glasses to clean them a bit, "Relax Tyson. He might just have checked into some hotel room to sleep for a night or two… After all, he did have his wallet with him when he disappeared, so he's not without money."

Hilary nodded, "Yes. We have to believe in his safe until otherwise is proven. Besides, Rei has always been able to take care of himself. He was also the first one of us who went on travelling by his own, before we even got to meet him."

Tyson gave a slight whimper, "That's true, but still…"

Kai glanced shortly towards the others while listening to their conversation before his eyes strayed to look through the window of their apartment again, to look down at the street, a small hope in seeing Rei walking down there and turn in through the doors to the apartment building. Though, there was no Rei down there to see. He sighed deeply.

A soft sigh at the same time escaped Satella's lips as she moved from the doorway which was between the living room where most people were and into the bedroom Rosette had gotten. She closed the door gently behind her in order to get some more private time to talk with Rosette.

Rosette looked up at Satella, "It's really weird he's gone, and they all seem so worried… It makes me uncomfortable…"

Satella smiled weakly, "Well, we know how it is worrying about a missing person, don't we? Though, I'm quite sure it's not the case for them that they have to search for years on end."

Rosette gave a small smile, "That's true."

Satella moved over to sit next to Rosette. "Though, I must say again, Rei does indeed look like Chrno. It's very surprising."

"Very…" Rosette mumbled, "Though, it's not only Chrno he looks like…"

Satella blinked, "Oh? Not?" she then took a closer look at Rosette, trying to see if she could spot similarities between her and Rei.

Rosette twitched before she growled, "Not between me and him you idiot!" she bonked the top of Satella's head.

Satella twitched before pouting and rubbing the top of her head where a lump now was appearing, "Well how should I know? Besides, who else he should remind of then?"

Rosette was pouting back at Satella before her expression changed slightly and she looked down at her hands in her lap, "…He reminds of Aion too."

Satella blinked, "Eh? Aion? How?"

"Yesterday morning, before we went to your mansion, Rei read aloud an article about some murders where witnesses claimed it was done by a demon. He was wearing the same sort of glasses as Aion had done, and at that apparent moment his hair was loose and his hair then fell around him, his face, like Aion's had done by him… It was scary. If it hadn't been because of the color difference, I could have sworn it was Aion at that given moment, but when he's without glasses and his hair is tied up, he looks so much like Chrno…" Rosette's eyes became half-lidded. She didn't understand why Rei could resemble those two so much.

Satella watched Rosette a bit before she got quite the pondering look, "Well, perhaps you didn't know everything about Chrno…"

Rosette raised an eyebrow and looked towards Satella, "Oh? And what you mean with that?"

"Well, perhaps there wasn't that much fight about the final fight between Chrno and Aion." Satella was thoughtful. Thoughtful with very wrong thoughts.

Rosette grimaced, "Pull yourself together! They wouldn't be together in that kind of way! Chrno would never do that with Aion, and even though Aion was quite nuts, I am quite sure he would never do that with Chrno either. Besides, I think they were brothers, twins even…" the last part was merely a low mumble.

Satella blinked and tilted her head to the side. She wasn't completely sure if she had heard right about the last part, which Rosette had only been mumbling. She didn't get to ask Rosette though, since a knock on the door interrupted the talking of the two.

Kenny stuck his head into the room. "I think perhaps the two of you should see this too. They're talking about something quite shockingly has happened and it's coming to the news now."

Rosette and Satella looked towards Kenny and nodded, "We're coming." And soon both got to their feet and followed the young man back to the living room and towards the television which was placed within the room. As they came into the room, the news was just properly starting now.

A news reporter could be seen showing on the screen on one side of it, while the other side of the screen was showing a building which had more or less collapsed. It seemed to have been a casino.

"At 8 PM yesterday evening a larger explosion happened at Casino Royale(1). No one knows what caused the explosion and it is still unknown whether there are any more people beneath the rubbles or not. So far nine people have been found dead while twenty-two are injured.

Witnesses claim demons crashed into the casino in a violent fight and trashed the placed. During this fight they should then have destroyed several walls, which in the end caused the building to collapse. The police believe a gas must have spread out in the casino before the explosion happened, causing people to hallucinate about demons."

The news reporter told a bit more about the incident before continuing onto some other news. However, the people in the apartment had now turned their attention away from the screen.

Hilary furrowed her brows, "Demons? Again? It's like with the people at the park thinking it was a demon that had attacked. It's crazy."

Max on the other hand didn't have time to think about people seeing demons. His worry had only grown rapidly, "What if Rei was by that casino? If he's one of the hurt people? Or if he's stuck beneath all the rubbles? Or what if he's dead?!"

Kai raised an eyebrow, "I honestly doubt that's the case. Rei isn't exactly the casino-guy."

"We have to find him!" Max let out, pretty much ignoring Kai's statement.

Tyson watched the blonde guy surprised, "Max…"

"We can't." Satella spoke.

Max twitched and spun directly towards Satella, "And why not?!"

"If we had been able to just find him, we probably would have done so already. However, we spend most of yesterday searching for him. We did not find him. I also heard that you've spend time the other days searching for him when he disappeared, but alas did not find him those times either –you first saw him when he showed himself to you again. Chicago is just too big to find a single person, especially if that person stays out of sight when he wants to." Satella replied. "There is not much else we can do, but wait."

"But…" Max whimpered.

Kenny got a sad look, "Unfortunately, Satella is right. We just have to hope for the best and wait."

Tyson gritted his teeth, "This stinks…" he deeply hoped Rei was alright, but hearing nothing from the Chinese was way too unusual, and with all the stuff apparently going on in Chicago at the moment it was only to worry.

Though, as it was already said; they could just wait and hope for the best.

MT: Chapter 4 done and re-written! Compared to the other chapters, this chapter pretty much reached about the same chapter length, so not so much about that.

1; Casino Royale was just a quickly thought up name as it's not going to be an important place and it just seemed like it needed a name. If there actually is a Casino called Royale… Then it's very likely not there the happenings happened… :'D

Please read and review, as it will be much appreciated!
