Author's Note: I am very sorry for the uber delay of updates! I promise that it was for a good reason! Teehee! I am officially employed and training was for a month and a couple of weeks! Woooh! Luckily, I made it! Kudos to your girl for officially being part of the working masses! Lol! Anyway, I know, it has been soooo long but I will try to update as much as I can. Updates will probably be every weekend since it's my day off. Happy reading! Once again, criticisms are very welcome. Tell me what you think!
I've been up since 7AM and it hasn't been working well for me. It was partly Maggie's fault and partly my new roommate's. Ever since we received a text last night about our class being cancelled by Dr. Cruz to give us time to work on our assignment, she immediately texted me that we should get started on our assignment at six in the morning. I mean, thank goodness for that news but still, Maggie was too excited for me which was ridiculous. Honestly, the only reason that I'll willingly get up that early if there was a book signing of my favourite author that early or Wesley was right next to me making advances and I was willing to accept those advances. My roommate, Stella, I was quite wary of her. She was unbelievably quiet and it was almost like she was scared to talk to me. Most of the night, while she was sleeping, I was awake because the thought of her probably being a killer was still in my mind and maybe I also wanted to snoop around her things to get to know her. I fought against the urge to invade her privacy so I just stared at the ceiling instead and imagined how I would talk to her when she was settled in in our room.
I lazily drew circles on my drafts while Maggie was rambling on about including a Venn diagram in our assignment and I just nodded not really taking in what she was talking. My mind was elsewhere. It was on Stella. I began to wonder about her again, why she was so distant, why she looked scared and most of all, because it was hard not to notice, why the heck was she checking out my boyfriend.
"Bianca, hello?" Maggie was waving her hand in front of my face and ignored her, I continued staring blankly in space, "Earth to Bianca, hello?" She snapped her fingers and I decided I should get back to our work.
"Yeah? That's a great idea," I said coolly, acting as if I knew what she was talking about previously.
"What idea did I say?" Maggie had her right eyebrow raised, I raised my right eyebrow back at her.
"You said we should put a Venn diagram in our assignment to show comparison and similarities, duh!" I smiled feeling triumphant.
"WRONG!" She was in a fit of laughter now, "you are so wrong," she slapped my arm and I retaliated with the same and then I laughed with her, there was a certain comfort being with Maggie, not the same comfort Casey and Jessica can give but there was comfort, "your mind was probably on your boyfriend that's why you spaced out. You excited to get freaky with him? Haha!" How I wish I was thinking about Wesley, after that incident with Stella last night, it will be awhile till I see him again, he was busy with his classes and I didn't want to disturb him especially when he was doing so well. Okay, maybe I was exaggerating about the awhile part but being away from him for a short time seemed such a long time.
"You're so gross. And whether or not we get freaky is none of your business, Maggie."
"Yeah, yeah. Anyway, when can I meet your boyfriend? I must meet this guy who makes you space out a lot. Must be hot and good in bed for you to be daydreaming about him a lot."
"He's a bit busy so it might not be for a while." Yes, Wesley is hot and good in bed, my god he is good in bed, but I didn't want him to meet Maggie yet. Like I said before, I'm not ready to share to someone my relationship, not yet.
I continued reading my draft and Maggie dropped the conversation and continued with her draft as well. I found myself quite unsatisfied with my contribution to the paper because it sounded like a high school paper. I wanted it to be collegiate, sophisticated, something that Dr. Cruz will proudly announce to class that our paper was one of the best. I fired up my laptop and began searching more information to add to my part and I tried to change the words to make it more…mature, make it sound like Maggie's. Hers was amazing, it was as if what she was writing was going to win a Nobel Prize. Damn it. I wondered what Maggie thought of my writing, I closed my eyes at the thought because she probably thought it was like a fourth grader who wrote it. I really needed to boost up my game.
As I was doing some more research, Casey messaged me in facebook saying that I, her and Jessica would have a conference call later in the afternoon. She wanted us to update each other about our college life so far. A good feeling came over me at the thought of having a conversation with my best friends. I needed to talk to them about what was going on with me, everything that was going on with me. It seemed like a century since I talked to them and I had so many to things to update them about and ask them for advice as well. I excitedly replied "YES. SO MANY THINGS TO TELL YOU. HOLY CRAP." And she just replied with "SPILL EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING! I LOVE YOU!" I was about to reply that I love her too but then Maggie chimed in and messaged me a smiley face in facebook.
"You know," I glared at her and she just smiled at me, "I'm right next to you."
"I know. Haha!" She checked her clock and looked at me wide-eyed, "it's lunch time! Where do you want to eat?"
"Cafeteria?" I said as I was fixing my things, she frowned at my suggestion, "that new pizza place right in front of the library?" she shook her head, "BaoHaus?"
"Nope! Let's go to Jersey!"
"WHAT? That's a bit too far for lunch, Maggie. There are plenty of restaurants and diners around campus, why can't we go there?" She was crazy.
"Everything close to campus, I've tried and I want to drive, I haven't driven for a while. Come one, our next class isn't later in the afternoon. Let's go!"
"Ummmm," I thought about it for a moment. It was far and it was going to be the first time I went to Jersey without Wesley and he was busy. What's the harm? "Yeah! Sure!"
Maggie was an insane driver. If she auditioned for the Fast and the Furious as a driver, she would probably get the job. I tried my best to keep calm but I guess my grip on my seat gave me away. My knuckles were almost white. She tried to assure me that she was a careful driver and that she hasn't been in an accident since she got her license but I still, my nervousness wouldn't settle. Maggie slowed the car down as we were entering an exit and she kept that pace as she drove around the street until she found the place that we were going to eat at. It was Burger King. What the hell.
"Maggie! There are lots of Burger King in New York for christsake! Why here?! My god! I had to endure that drive from hell just for a Burger King!" I complained as I got out of her car.
"I like the ambiance of this Burger King," she winked then smiled at me.
As we were lining up to order our food, I knew why Maggie wanted to eat at this Burger King. Her boyfriend was working here as a cashier. I could see the way they looked at each other and it was like how Wesley and I would look at each other after we spent a night under the stars just enjoying each other's company, no sex, just the pure comfort and love of being in each other's embrace. It was sweet, sensual and it was one of the moments that I truly felt happy and content.
As Maggie and I were eating out food, her boyfriend came to our table and sat next to her. I placed my burger down and waited for Maggie to introduce him but all she did was continue eating her food, more like devouring her food, and I was left with him and I awkwardly staring at each other then at Maggie.
"Mags?" he finally said.
"Oh my gosh. Sorry!" she quickly placed down her burger, took a sip of soda then wiped her mouth with a tissue then faced us, "it's just that, when the food is so good, I get lost in the sheer delicousness of it. Haha! Anyway, Jake, this is Bianca," she gestured to me and I smiled at him, "and Bianca, this is Jake," he returned me smile. He was definitely cute. Not Welsey cute but cute still.
"So, how long have you two been together?" I asked as I picked at my food.
"We're not together or in a relationship or anything like that," Maggie said defensively and I saw the sadness in Jake's eyes, I what he felt all too well, it was the same feeling I felt before with Wesley, I felt bad for him, "I'm mean, we're together but in a best friends kind of way, been buddies since we were in diapers! Haha!"
"Yeah!" Jake said all too cheerfully, "I've seen Mags through all her awkward and gross phases and I was the only friend left after her transformation so yeah, I stuck around to deal with her stubborn ass."
"Oh shut up, Jake! You keep me around because I give you rides to your concerts."
"Haha! And you keep me around because you get free food whenever you come here!"
"Her food was free?!" I whined.
"Hey! I had to spend gas to get here so we're even!" Maggie retorted and I just laughed and we continued to eat our food while Jake shared some of Maggie's awkward phases.
After spending about an hour with the both of them, it was clear that they were in love with each other but what was stopping Maggie from being with Jake. She was definitely defensive when I assumed they were together. I was going to have to pry it out of Maggie later. If she was asking me questions about Wesley, I was definitely going to ask her about Jake as well.
"So, really, tell me, what was bothering you this morning?" Maggie asked as we were going back to New York.
"What?"
"You know, you spacing out. What's the deal?
"Oh, that? We're still on that?!"
"You complain a lot. Haha! Come on, you can tell me, Bianca. I won't judge you or anything like that. I'd had my fair share of drama, I'd be glad to help you with yours," something she said made me want to open up to her, it felt like I could trust her, "come on, get it out. It's not safe to keep things hidden inside," she sounded just like Casey. Hmmm, here it goes.
"I have a weird roommate. She creeps me out a little."
"Oh. That was it?" I could see that she was trying to hide a smile, "hmmmm, what's her name?"
"Stella…" I realized that I didn't know her last name, damn it, "Stella something something."
"Something something?" she raised her right eyebrow.
"Don't know much about her, only her first name and she's not very chatty but she is creepy."
"Hmmmmm, maybe she's that girl."
"What girl?" I began to get worried.
"They say there was this new girl in campus, late getting enrolled because they had to review her records. They say she did some weird and horrible things in high school. I don't know much but she was pretty twisted according to what people were saying."
Shit. Shit. Shit.
Stella better not be that girl.
