What Do Ya Want From Me-Adam Lambert

"Look, I'll just go if that's how you feel!" Delbert growled, pushing away from the opposite side of Amelia's desk and stomping towards the door.

"Fine! Go, you bumbling idiot!" Amelia stood and hissed, trying not to let her tears streak down her face.

She growled as the door slammed shut.

"That pompous...stuffed shirt… lousy… ugh!" She sat down heavily in her chair, crossing her arms, the anger she felt boiling in her chest as it radiated throughout the rest of her body.

Delbert ran off of The Legacy, too angry to notice the confused and concerned looks Amelia's crew gave him as he went. He could barely see, his tears blurring his vision. He finally ran out of breath on a bench near the Transport Station. He ran his hands over his face, trying to calm himself.

After a few minutes, Amelia sat and just stared at the door, sniffling. Suddenly, forced herself to sit up.

"E-Enough of t-that… I'm far too sophisticated to stoop this low… He's just a man. I don't need this kind of frustration." she stood and walked to her small bathroom, sighing as she washed her face with cold water and took a few deep breaths.

"Bloody idiot… Forcing himself on me like that…" Amelia mumbled, even though she knew that Delbert hadn't forced himself on her at all. In fact, he had been the perfect gentleman. The kiss that initiated the argument had been purely innocent.

"So… Yes, I do believe the end of the war was a bit abrupt."

Delbert sat across from Amelia, her desk between them, quietly sipping his tea.

"Of course it was, Doctor." Amelia said calmly, setting her own cup down. "Ending a war because the enemy ran out of resources was a stupid move. We should have advanced when they were down."

"Well… I suppose if i had been in the middle of it as you had been, Captain… I would see it differently." Delbert mumbled, gently rubbing the back of his neck. "I guess I see it as with the war ending as suddenly as it had… The soldiers on both sides were allowed to go home to their families, which is always a good thing."

Amelia felt her cheeks burn suddenly at the idea of family being connected to Delbert and she shrugged.

"I suppose you have a point, Delbert."

Delbert coughed once, obviously a little startled. Amelia looked up from her tea and tilted her head.

"Are you alright?"

"U-Um… You called me Delbert."

Amelia shrugged and fought back a smile, her tea cup to her lips.

"And? That is your name, is it not? Or have you been lying this whole time?"

Delbert blushed and chewed his lip nervously.

'Well y-yes it is my name but…"

"If we are planning on spending time together like this, I don't think formalities are necessary."

"O-Oh um… Y-Yes. It just uh… Shocked me to hear you say my n-name. It was-"

"Bold?"

Delbert laughed softly, in spite of himself.

"Well, yes, and unexpected."

Amelia smirked and stood, suddenly in the mood to toy with this nerdy astrophysicist.

"You're fond of bold… Are you not?"

Delbert bit his lip hard, his cheeks bright red.

"U-Um…"

"I would assume so, seeing that you are…" Amelia slowly walked to his side of the desk, her eyes trailing around the room casually, before finding his chocolate brown eyes as she leaned on her desk with one hand."Not very bold at all. Opposites attract and such"

Delbert's embarrassed look suddenly turned into a slightly offended one.

"E-Excuse me, Captain, I can be bold. When I w-want to."

Amelia laughed and tapped his nose, then walked to her kitchenette and refilled her tea cup.

"Oh really, now? I'd pay money to see that, Delbert."

She never would have pegged Delbert as one to have a quiet swiftness to him, but when she spun around to walk back to her chair, she collided with his chest.

"D-Delbert?"

"Yes… Amelia? What, too bold for you?"

Amelia's eyes never left his as she tried to speak.

"A-Anyone can invade another's personal space." she said defiantly, setting the teacup on the counter behind her.

"Who said it ended here?" he whispered as he placed a single kiss on her lips before pulling away, a triumphant smirk on his face.

The electric shock that ran through her body at the unexpected kiss was wholly unlike anything she'd ever experienced before. The kiss was soft and sweet, very innocent. It was more of a test kiss than anything, to see where he stood with her. If this was a test, as far as Amelia was concerned, Delbert had passed.

"Was that bold enough?" Delbert said with a laugh.

Amelia blinked, her cheeks a deep crimson. She laughed, rolling her eyes as she wrapped her arms around his torso.

Amelia smiled as she remembered how special she had felt, even though it had been only one very short kiss. She bit her lip and fought back more tears, realizing that she may have messed up her only shot at true happiness.

"Perhaps we could do this more often…?"

"Oh I don't know about that. Wouldn't want to be caught, now would we?" she said, chuckling darkly as they parted and she made her way back to her desk.

A long silence passed between them, and when Delbert finally spoke, his voice was laced with slight pain.

"You wouldn't want to be seen with me?"

Amelia looked at him for a moment, then looked away, unable to handle the innocent hurt in his eyes.

"I didn't mean it like that, Delbert."

"Then how did you mean it?"

Which then blew into a full-blown argument about Amelia being ashamed of Delbert, and Amelia trying to convince him that wasn't the case. They argued and said things they hadn't meant, causing Delbert to storm out in a huff.

"Oh, Delbert… What did you want from me?" Amelia sighed, spinning in her chair to stare out of the window. "What did you expect? I'm a spacer, I can't go falling in love at a moment's notice...I'm not...ready for something like that. My schedule is… I don't..."

She growled softly in frustration. Even she didn't believe her own excuses. If she truly wanted to be with him, she could make time for their relationship. Truth was, she did want to be with him… and now that she was thinking about it, she wouldn't mind rejecting one or two voyages if it meant she would be spending time at his side.

Delbert finally calmed down and bit his lip.

"Maybe I should go apologize… I… I was in the wrong… I'm the one who kissed her."

He huffed, staring at the ground in confusion. He'd been trying to prove a point to her when he'd stepped into her 'bubble', and hadn't even intended on kissing her. That idea had popped into his head when he saw the shocked look on Amelia's face when she had turned to face him.

Letting out a long sigh, he stood and rubbed the back of his neck. Looking around, he saw that the usually crowded Spaceport was significantly emptier than it had been when he'd shown up. He pulled his pocket watch out, sighing as he checked the time. Knowing his fiery spacer captain, she was more than likely still upset with him, and wouldn't be in the mood to hear an apology tonight. Taking one more glance towards where he knew the Legacy was moored, he pulled it overcoat around him tightly and headed off to wait for the transport that would take him back to Montressor.

By the time Delbert walked into the house, he was beyond exhausted. Waiting for the public transport always seemed to wear him out. Pulling off his coat, he was not surprised to that see all the lights off except for the light coming from the fire in the living room. Sarah was more than likely still up, reading. He walked through the long front hall, and raised a hand half-heartedly at the figure in the armchair, not even looking at her. He was not in the mood to explain what had happened and why his mood was so sour.

"Hello, Sarah." he mumbled.

"Delbert."

His heart stopped in his chest as Amelia raised an eyebrow at him from the chair near the fire, the warm light illuminating her auburn tresses.

He was dumbfounded as she stood and walked towards him, her posture betraying the brave look in her eyes.

"You...What… W-What are you doing h-here…?" Delbert whispered when she finally stood in front of him, their eyes meeting. "How did you…?"

"Private Navy transport. Much quicker than the public one."

"Ah."

Still dumbfounded, he simply stared at her, his jaw a bit slack.

"Delbert, I...I should have apologized. I said things I shouldn't have said. I do care about you and… I don't want to lose you over a stupid bloody argument about...whatever it was about.." she said softly, her eyes searching his.

Delbert said nothing, his mind still struggling to grasp the fact that she was standing in front of him.

"Delbert, please say something. This isn't easy for me."

Delbert's mind finally gripped reality. The love of his life, the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, the person he thought about night and day… Was asking for his forgiveness. And he was just standing there, staring at her.

"You are really something else."

Amelia, mildly offended, took a step away from him.

"Thank you." She said bitterly.

"I wasn't finished…"

"Oh. Continue." Her arms were crossed, and she prepared herself for yet another argument.

"You're frustrating, infuriating, obnoxious, stuck up… and just an all-around rude person."

Amelia's brow furrowed, her lips parted slightly as she tried to come up with a retort. Her train of thought was completely derailed when Delbert gently tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, his fingers brushing her cheek.

"Which is why I find it… so unbelievable that I've fallen in love with you."

Amelia slowly uncrossed her arms, chewing her lip nervously.

"You're an idiot for doing that." she said softly, smiling slowly.

Delbert just laughed.

"I've always been an idiot."

Amelia laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Yes and a neophyte."

Delbert rolled his arms, his arms around her back.

"Let's not start another argument."

Amelia chuckled, then her smile melted into a puzzled frown.

"Delbert, when you realized we were going to be...More than acquaintances… What did you expect? What did you want from me? You knew how stubborn I was, you know how frustrating I can be… yet you still chose to be with me."

Delbert smiled and kissed her nose, loving the way her frown turned back into a loving smile.

"I wasn't sure what I wanted… I definitely didn't know what to expect… But, today I realized that I just want you. You and everything you stand for, every little thing good or bad that makes you...you."

"Good. I want you as well."

"I would sincerely hope so."

She answered his sly response with a deep kiss that left him speechless.
