I LIVE! Haha I'm finally done being worthless and managed to finish redoing chapter four. Let's hope I can keep the ball rolling and get some more chapters done. I don't own the Hunger Games just the plot and OCs.
Thilia watched through the window as the train left district four. Griffin had gone off to explore the moment he had stepped aboard; more interested in the fun objects the Capital had to offer than his own home. Once her home was no longer in sight she turned away slowly and tried to follow the path her fellow tribute had taken.
At the end of the open door she found herself in the dinning cart of the train. Her jaw found itself hanging as she stared wide eyed at all the pastries, meats, fish, drinks and desserts that surrounded the room on platters. She found a chair at the dinning table and sat down slowly, still trying to take in the whole room.
Griffin had already started to dig into the large amounts of food he had gotten onto his plate. Thilia watched uncomfortably, not really sure if they where actually allowed to eat any of the food presented to them. She turned to Griffin, who was licking his fingers, and scooted her chair away from him. "What is wrong with this kid?" She thought watching him with disgust.
The compartment door opened and Glendena walked in followed by a familiar man they had seen at the reaping. He had bright ginger hair and sea green eyes. Most girls would've swooned at the sight of him, being one of the most handsome men of the twelve districts and the capital combined. But Thalia just smiled shyly at him and blushed.
"So these are our new tributes." Finnick Odair said clapping his hands together. "You are...Griffin, correct?" Griffin swallowed a large mouthful of food before answering. "You know it." He replied. "You have some guts there big guy." Finnick commented. It was hard to tell if he was talking about him volunteering or eating half a tray by himself.
"And you must be Thilia." He said turning and pointing at her. She nodded in response. "Both of you come here." Finnick commanded. He pointed at two spots in front of him. Griffin wiped his mouth and instantly went over to the red head. Thilia looked slightly startled at his sudden request but stood up and went to the spot she was told to.
Finnick looked Griffin up and down as he scratched his chin. "Turn." He instructed. Griffin turned around a full 360. Finnick nodded slowly. Then he turned to Thilia. "Twirl for me." He said. She gave him a confused look. "Huh?" He took hand and spun her around around several times. First slowly then so fast she needed to grip Griffins arm for support when he stopped. Finnick finally released her hand.
"A little work needs to be done... But I can see potential... Nothing a good Capitol make over can't fix." He thought aloud. "Potential?" Thilia asked as she and Griffin took their seats again. "Of winning the crowd over with beauty. That's how I did it. You probably could too." He explained sitting next to Griffin.
"Well isn't this wonderful!" Glendena said clapping her hands together. "Have only been gone 5 minutes and we've already got a plan to win! So much more prepared then last years bunch!"
Glendena continued to chatter about how 'unmannered' last years tributes where while Thilia attempted to eat. The sick rumbling in her stomach wouldn't go away. Finnick's little inspection had left her more nervous than before. What if the crowd hated her? She wouldn't survive long with out support.
Griffin was the exact opposite. He seemed to have enjoyed the compliment from their mentor and scarfed down food till he couldn't hold anymore. He talked happily with Glendena about past Hunger Games as casually as talking about the weather.
"-and when he speared district 2's tribute down! Right through the skull!"
"Oh, that ending was the best!"
Thalia still didn't understand how Griffin's mind worked. Obviously he grew up in District 4, no one was able to leave their district unless they're in the Hunger Games, but he acted like a Capitol citizen. Completely oblivious to the poverty and destruction around him.
Finnick was probably the only one who understood how nervous Thilia felt. He kept patting her on the back and giving her encouraging words. He also kept telling her to eat more and it'll pay off later. She took his advice and forced down 3 helpings. She felt a little green and her stomach started swirling. The newer, richer food didn't settle well in her stomach.
Griffin and Glendena continued to chat non-stop about their favorite Hunger Games moments. Thilia gripped her hands tightly and looked down at her lap. She could feel the food making its way back up her throat as they continued to talk freely.
"I don't understand why they take the bodies away, anyway." Griffin mused. "Imagine how much meat you could get off one person-"
"I think I'm going to go take a nap!" Thilia announced suddenly standing. The others jumped at her actions, and Griffin stopped talking. Before they could comment, she left the dining car quickly. She quickly ran down the halls and found the room designated for herself.
The door opened to one of the largest bedroom she'd ever seen.
Inside it had a dresser the size of Thilia herself and a bed that could fit five people. To the side was a high tech bathroom with all the latest bathing technologies from the districts. "This sure beats a large bucket and soap..." She muttered.
Thalia decided to wash the sea salt out of her hair and took a very long warm shower before changing into a comfortable red night gown that went to her knees.
She placed the palm of her hand against one of the many high tech machinery and a electric current spread through out her body, instantly drying her hair and giving it a glossy look and feel to it.
Now fed and bathed, the tribute crawled into bed and curled up in a ball underneath her covers. With the amazement of the large room over, the homesickness and upcoming terror seeped back into her mind. Thilia even wondered if she could jump off the train. Maybe she could escape and sneak back to district 4.
But she knew there was no chance. She'd never survive a landing at the speed the train was going. Besides Capitol attendants Flooded the train. She'd be stopped before she reached the door handle.
Thilia squeezed her eyes shut and hugged her knees tighter to her chest. She wanted to go home and forget all about this. She wanted to wake up tomorrow and think this was just a dream.
She knew it'd never happen though. She let out a heavy sigh and closed her eyes as she tried to fall into a restless sleep.
