The next week, the café that Flander supposedly worked at reopened for business, so she wasn't home for the day. Kid was glad she got a job, but he was slightly suspicious as to why she wouldn't tell him where exactly she worked. He didn't let it bother him, though; he was too busy. He dragged the two girls out to do some much-needed shopping to restock the almost empty pantry.
"I'm getting hungry, Kid," Liz complained. He was OCD about everything, and that didn't end with shopping. He'd been taking more than his fair share of forever trying to find the best deals; she was tired.
Kid sighed. She'd been complaining for the last half hour.
"Alright," he finally gave in. "Since we're out, we can eat out. Any place in particular you girls want to go?"
"Why don't we go to that new café that just opened up?" Patti suggested. Kid and Liz cringed.
"The Otaku Café?" Kid asked. He didn't want to be seen there. Although the place did look cute and not particularly… inappropriate as some so-called otaku cafes, so he agreed. As long as no one he knew saw him there.
Flander's Secret; I Look Cute, Right?
The café was decorated nicely with j-pop playing in the background. The waitresses weren't dressed in bunny costumes, at least; they seemed like normal cosplayers, what few of them there were. It wasn't long until a waitress walked up to their table to take their order. Kid was about to turn his head, when her voice made him hesitate.
"Welcome home, Master!"
He knew that voice. Kid snapped his head to the left and his breath caught.
Flander was standing in front of him! Her long black hair was pulled back and tied at the end, she wore a cute headband with cat ears, and a short, yet cute in a kind of five-year-old Lolita way, dress with blue bows on either side. She was symmetrical, but that hardly mattered. The look on Kid's face was priceless. Soon, Flander opened her eyes as well, and her face turned bright red.
"E-eh… u-um…. K-Kid? I-I…."
"Flan?! W-what the heck…?"
"Hey Flan!" Patti waved. "Funny seeing you here. What are you doing dressed like a kitty cat?"
"I—ah! Well, I kind of, um, work here," Flander admitted, trembling violently and looking away.
"You… work here?" Kid twitched. "But… why?"
"Well, if you must know!" Flander closed her eyes and put her hands on her hips. "I enjoy this kind of atmosphere. Being an otaku isn't anything to be ashamed about. So order something or get out."
"Okay…" Kid turned to the menu. "I'll just have some water, please."
"No problem," Flander smiled, happy that he didn't question her.
"Kid, what are you doing here?"
"Oh no," Kid cringed and looked one table over to see Maka, Soul, and Crona sitting there. "H-hey, you guys. What's up?"
"Crona wanted to check this café out," Maka replied. "But he was too scared to come alone."
"I see," Kid nodded. "Well, Patti really wanted to come too."
"I can't believe you two dragged me here," Soul muttered. "Being seen in this place? It's not cool at all."
"Excuse me?!" Flander turned on her heel to face him. He jumped.
"F-Flander!"
"You work here?" Maka asked.
"And don't worry Soul," Flander smiled. "I have to look all sweet and innocent for customers, but I swear I will break and enter your home at night and cut you into eight pieces if you say that ever again."
"Don't say creepy things all sweet and innocent like that!" he scolded.
Flander got home rather late that night. She was just in time for dinner. The meal passed in silence until Kid decided to speak up.
"So," he tried to withhold a smirk. "You don't like cute things, yet you were dressed up as a Lolita cat waitress. You won't tell me where you work, and you work at the new Otaku café. You're a nerd, aren't you?"
"Are you angry?" Flander asked quietly. Kid suddenly tackled her and began laughing.
"You're an otaku!" he sang childishly, ruffling her hair. "You're an otaku!"
"Hey, quit that!" Flander whined. "You jerk!"
Kid laughed demonically and hugged her tighter. Of course he wasn't mad at her. While he knew this was the core of her socially ineptness and it's usually frowned upon to be a nerd, he was still her brother. He accepted her for whoever she was.
How Do You Like That? Exceptional Enough For You?!
The next day, Flander dressed as Haruhi Suzumiya, with her lengthy hair pulled back with an orange ribbon. She had to work a lot, but she didn't mind; she liked working there.
"Flan, you got another customer!"
"On it," she chirped, skipping out of the kitchen to greet the new customers. It was right after lunch rush, so things were going a little slowly now. She was greeted by eight of her favorite people. "Hey, guys, what's up?"
"Hey, sis," Kid greeted.
"I thought you ate here yesterday," she narrowed her eyes.
"I wanted to see you again," he said.
"This place is too cool to pass up," Soul added. Flander grinned at him. "Sorry about that."
"No problem," she said.
"I enjoyed coming here yesterday too," Crona added shyly.
"I'm sure you'll like it here today even more," Flander smirked. She perked as the lights went a bit dim and a small stage ot the far corner of the café was highlighted with spotlights. "Looks like we got a rush. You're going to love this."
"What is she talking about?" Liz wondered.
Flander ran up on stage with three other girls and stood there for a moment until some catchy music began playing…. And then… and then… Flander and her companions started singing and DANCING.

"Yeah, give me a sec," Soul pulled the small device out of his pocket and opened up the camera app. "Video? Or picture?"
"Both would be great," Kid nodded slightly.

Flander almost collapsed from exhaustion, but that was fun. She collected herself and walked off the stage with the others as if nothing had happened. She went back to the table, where the others were staring at her.
"What?" she asked.
"This is going on Twitter right now!" Soul laughed. Flander blushed, but smiled anyway despite being embarrassed.
"Soul," Maka warned, pulling out a book.
"Chill, I was just kidding."
"So… this is a performing café…." Kid trailed off, sweat-dropping.
"Well, yeah, and I don't normally do this stuff; it's just Lindsey was sick with a cold so I had to fill in and boss said I was really versatile and such so I learned the dance last night."
"I was wondering what you were doing," Kid sighed. "At least you have headphones, otherwise that song would still be stuck in my head."
"I can fix that," Flander smiled devilishly. Kid gritted his teeth.
"Brat!"
