It's getting cold where I live which, on the positive side, means more hot tea, but in the negative side means less warm strolls in the sunshine to help breakdown a writers block. Not only that but my boss had decided I need to work 7 days a week, all 8 hour shifts, so I'm desperately trying to cram showers, writing, cleaning, cooking AND spending time with my partner all into the few short hours of day I have left when I'm off. So please excuse my lack of updates in the weeks to come. With that being said, I hope you guys enjoy this chapter!!!
DISCLAIMER: I OWN NOTHING.
The blonde boy dipped the tip of his quill into the ink. He looked down at the letter he was writing, the words gave the illusion that they were dancing at the candlelight flickered.
'There are two that have caught my eye' he wrote. 'One is a boy, my age, the other a girl, a year younger. Both have high marks in school, both athletic. The boy's surename is Lupin, his mother's surename was Tonks. Both parents deceased' He stopped and took another sip of whiskey, enjoying the way it warmed his throat. 'The girl's surename is Weasley, her mother's surname is Delacour. Their records should prove easy to find, given that all four of them served in the Order of the Phoenix. Delacour is especially known for being a Triwizard Cup Champion.
I await further instructions.
AH'
The boy quickly folded the letter and sealed it in an envelope. He tucked it away into one of his most mundane school books to keep until he could mail it tomorrow. He threw back the rest of his whiskey and blew out the candle.
"I don't know why you insist on disliking him, Teddy. Altair is a genuinely nice guy."
Teddy rolled his eyes. Victoire had been pestering him about the blonde for a few weeks now. He wasn't sure what it was about Altair, maybe it was the way he carried himself, or his interest in Teddy's heritage, but Teddy very strongly disliked him.
"Look, 'Toire, I just don't like the guy. He's arrogant, and I don't understand why you're masking this an issue."
Victoire snorted "Because Teddy! You can't just dislike someone for no reason!"
"Well. Maybe you can't, but I can."
Victoire stomped her foot.
"Teddy Lupin!" She scolded.
Teddy laughed and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her into him. "You're just so easy to rile up, 'Toire."
"Seriously though, promise me you'll at least try to like Altair?"
Teddy rolled his eyes. How could he say no to her?
"I promise to try. Doesn't mean I'll ever like him."
Victoire nodded. "I think you may change your mind. He's a rather nice guy. We're going on the next Hogsmead trip together."
Teddy clenched his jaw. So, Altair was a prick and making a move on Victoire.
"I've got to get to class." Victoire said, pulling his arm off her shoulders.
"Bye!" She called over her shoulder as she hurried away, leaving Teddy to stare after her.
"...So there I am, sitting on my broom with the snitch in my hand, and I'm not even the Seeker!" The crowd that had gathered around Altair roared with laughter.
Teddy sat in an arm chair a ways away with a mug of hot tea, glaring into the fire. Altair was boasting about one of his many quidditch winnings during his time at Ilvermorny.
"You didn't get in trouble?" A fifth year girl asked in wonder.
"'Course not" Altair bragged, putting his hands behind his head and kicking his feet up on the coffee table. "Ilvermorny isn't nearly as anal about quidditch rules as you are here at Hogwarts. We tend to play dirty, and besides, they wouldn't have kicked their best player off the team. No one's Keeper tryouts ever held a candle to mine..."
Teddy took a sip of his tea. Quidditch tryouts were tomorrow, so they'd just see how good Altair actually was.
"Nice snag, Teddy!" Katy Wood, the team captain of the Slytherin quidditch team called out.
Teddy landed and high fived her. "An excellent try out, as always! Can't wait to have you as my Seeker again this year!" she beamed. He shouldered his broom and made his way to the sidelines, where Reeves was standing to watch the Keeper tryouts.
"You think he's as good as he says?" Teddy asked as they watched Altair mount his broom.
Reeves shrugged. "Dunno. Guess we'll find out"
Teddy cleared his throat. Altair had made his way to the goal posts. One of their Chasers, Lucas Oxmand hurled the quaffle and Altair stopped it easily. After successfully catching all eight, the blond boy landed on the ground with a smirk.
Much to Teddy's displeasure, no one else had a successful tryout and Altair was named the Slytherin Keeper.
"As long as he doesn't catch my fucking snitch we'll get along" Teddy murmured to Reeves.
Reeves snorted "that story probably isn't even true. It's lot like there's anyone here that could refute it."
The two Slytherins made their way up to the castle, having successfully made the team once again.
"Look at him strutting around! It's as if no one else made the team but him! It's not like it's that hard to make the team!" Teddy ranted, shoving his plate of unfinished dinner away from him. For the last five days, Altair had been doing nothing but bragging about his Keeper tryout and his position on the team. Tonight, however, he was nowhere to be seen.
"Yeah! Teddy made the team and he sucks!" Interjected Reeves. He sniggered when Teddy turned and glared at him.
"Well, at least my position actually requires skill. You just have to fly around and hit a death ball." Reeves elbowed Teddy in the side.
"Oh, stop bickering and act you age will you!" Victoire snapped at the two boys.
"Sorry mom" they said together. Victoire glared at them.
"Why are you so grumpy today?" Teddy asked, shouldering Victoire.
"Altair cancelled on me. He isn't going to Hogsmead with me this weekend. Says he 'has business' to attend to." She said the words in a poor mockery of Altairs voice. Teddy suddenly felt his spirits lift exponentially.
"Why don't you just go with Teddy?" Reeves asked suddenly. Teddy whipped his head around to give him a shut-the-fuck-up-before-I-murder-you-in-your-sleep look.
Victoire looked over at Teddy, her cheeks bright red.
"Well, actually Teddy-"
"I have to go. Need to get a jog in before my detention with Longbottom" Teddy said, standing up from the table. He hurried out of the hall. What the fuck, Reeves? He though angrily. He hadn't told Victoire his feelings about her, and besides that, he wasn't even sure she would reciprocate those feelings. If she didn't, their friendship would surely end. She was his very best friend. The only one that could soothe him during full moons. The only one that knew all of his deepest, darkest secrets. Victoire wasn't only Teddy's best friend, she was a part of him. She knew him better that he knew himself. He couldn't afford to lose her.
Victoire waited outside of the Slytherin common room, determined to talk to Teddy. She had been planning to ask him to go to Hogsmead with her. They barely spent any time together due to their busy schedules and she missed him deeply. She looked up right as he rounded the corned and had to clench her jaw to stop it from dropping. He had just finished up his jog around the castle.
When did he get so hot? She thought to herself. His hair hung down in his face in sweaty strips, and he was shirtless. Her eyes traveled down his sculpted stomach and landed on the defined V that was visible just above his gym shorts.
"Hogsmead!" She blurted out.
"What?" Teddy asked, arching his eyebrow.
"Uh, I mean, would you like to do to Hogsmead with me tomorrow?" She said her words slowly to avoid tripping over them. Teddy had never had this effect on her, and she didn't know where these feelings were coming from. He stared at her for a moment. His blue eyes were shinning, and Victoire swore she saw his electric blue hair lighten a shade.
"Hogsmead" he said slowly. Mulling over the word. "Together?"
Victoire swallowed. "I-yeah. I-if you want to."
Teddy smiled. "I'd love to go to Hogsmead together."
"Great!" She said breathlessly. She was having a hard time keeping her eyes on his face. "Well, I'd better get up to the Ravenclaw tower. Lots of homework to finish."
Teddy nodded slowly. "Sure, sure." He said, smirking.
They stood opposite each other for another few seconds, both unsure of what to say or do next.
"Uh, I better get a shower before my detention with Longbottom." Teddy said, glancing awkwardly at a painting beside him.
"Right! Yeah! Well, uh, have fun with Longbottom! Well, I guess it's not technically supposed to be fun, per se, but... You know. I hope it's not miserable." The words all came out in a jumbled rush. Suddenly feeling bashful, she hurried past Teddy without another word.
As soon as she rounded the corner, Victoire braced herself against the brick wall and placed her hand over her pounding heart. She mentally kicker herself for looking like a total moron just now. It was Teddy for crying out loud! She and Teddy had been in diapers together, she had known him through his awkward prepubescent stage! But wow he was hot! Had she just never noticed? Her mind flashed back to his defined stomach that was slick with sweat. No. She thought to herself. Teddy was her very best friend. More than that, he was an extension of herself. The one person in the world she felt truly comfortable with. She couldn't afford to have this attraction towards him, it could ruin their friendship. Straightening up, she took a deep breath and made her way to the Ravenclaw common room.
Teddy dragged his filthy shirt over his head and discarded it on the floor. He stepped into the shower and let the burning hot water wash the mud off of his body. It had been his last detention with Longbottom and it had been utterly miserable. There was a fungus breakout in greenhouse three and Teddy had to examine every plant for fungus and document the ones that were infected. The issue was that many plants didn't particularly want to be examined, some of them released a slimy, itchy residue, others simply flung mud on him. Normally Teddy would have swatted the plants, or muttered curse words at them under his breath, but tonight he felt lighter. The imagine of Victoire's flushed face at the sight him shirtless was etched in his mind. She had definitely been effected by his body. There was something more behind her eyes. He was sure of it. She had asked him to go to Hogsmead with her!
Teddy stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist. He wiped the condensation off the mirror and looked at himself. His hair was its usual electric blue, his sharp jaw had just a slight stubble. His bright blue eyes sparkled. Focusing his mind, he watched as his hair turned from blue to an inky black. Satisfied, he headed back to his dormitory.
