Sorry been so long, also edited my other chapters if people want to have a look.
Nothing plot changing just edited to bring them more in line with my current writing style.
Chapter 4 - Side-splitting fun
Seras glanced out of the helicopter as it flew over the once lush landscape of the Northumberland national park. There was nary a tree in sight, only grass and rock met her gaze. There used to be many trees around the area however humans had cut them down, first for economic reasons, then when the world was taking a turn for the worse, for purely survival reasons.
The electricity that humans had relied on for so long did not always work, especially up in the north. As the wires were often sabotaged by the creatures living in Scotland. Luckily they appeared to be rogues and did not work together at all, more often acting like animals and fighting each other.
Patches of clouds overhead blocked some of the bright stars, however the moon had no such obscurity and a half-moon overlooked the dark ground, lending its light to otherwise blind animals and people. A cough caused Seras to look back into the helicopter. Wolfe was coughing into his hands and was rubbing them together as if for warmth. She raised a confused eyebrow at his behaviour.
"What's wrong?" She asked. Wolfe shivered.
"Oh nothing, it's just freezing up here." He admitted. Seras shook her head and sighed.
"Vampires don't feel the cold, it's all in your head." She chided him. Wolfe frowned as he carried on shivering. He didn't believe her at all.
Seras rolled her eyes at him and carried on looking out of the window. Her eyes zoomed in to see a red fox scamper over the grassy clearing, before it shot after a mouse. She smiled, it was nice to see that the wildlife was still surviving. Sure enough as if on cue, a smaller younger fox followed after what Seras guessed was its mother.
Suddenly a sharp male voice cut over the din of the helicopter blades into her headset.
"I'll drop you off here, radio me when you want picking up." Seras pressed her finger on the tiny button on her headset which let her speak over the radio.
"Right, see you soon." She spoke. The male did not reply as Seras stood up, Wolfe looked up to her as she clamped her hand down onto the handle of the door. She thrust it open, the din of the helicopter blades grew in volume to a deafening level. Outside was only the night sky, they were many miles above the land. The pilot did not land for security reasons, Elena's orders. Seras turned back to Wolfe, to see him just as the colour left his face.
"Are we not landing?!" He yelled to her. Seras did not reply and instead leaned over him, undid his seatbelt and gripped a handful of his uniform. Pulling him to the side of the copter. He instinctively pulled back, however was stopped with a slight glare from his master.
"C'mon." She spoke into his mind as she jumped off the copter still holding onto the scruff of his uniform. The wind blew past them at blinding speeds as they fell, their clothes billowing behind them as they were forced out. Seras couldn't help a smile as they fell, it was a wonderful feeling of freedom, something she rarely felt. She could fly as bats or as lightning however just falling in her own natural body was something she enjoyed. She spread out her arms and legs to slow her fall and to stop her body from twisting in the air. Wolfe did a similar action, however the look of fear on his face told her he was not enjoying this. Seras felt a pang of guilt for dragging him out like this, but she couldn't afford to baby him all the time. Too soon the ground rushed up to meet them, Seras let a drop of power out to slow their ascent until it was a near stand still as they neared the floor, Seras kicked her legs out till she gracefully landed on her feet, a thud told her that Wolfe did not do likewise and had fallen onto his stomach. However he quickly picked himself up and acted as if nothing had happened.
A slight breeze picked up as he brushed himself down, Seras looked away from him and back out to the landscape. She sniffed for her intended prey, the smell was weak however it was unmistakably inhuman. Like that of a beast, however she knew the smell, it was that of a werewolf. She was in the right area, but not close yet. Seras began walking off. Wolfe quickly caught up and fit in step behind her, their pace was slow but careful. As if Seras was merely out for a stroll out in this wilderness, not hunting for fierce flesh tearing werewolves.
Elena signed her name at the bottom of another report to his majesty. He seemed awfully interested in Hellsing recently, maybe he had finally clocked on that Hellsing was indeed the last line of defence against the undead. The only time the King wrote back was for another update, whether it be the status of the troops or her or if anything new had come up, his recent letter was the order to help the last of the Vatican. He seemed adamant that they were needed in order to save the nation against total annihilation, however recently most of his report requests were about her servant Seras. Elena debated constantly over what she thought he should know and tried to keep out information she deemed too personal. However his communications seemed to get more intrusive every time. Elena closed the envelope and stamped her Hellsing insignia on the back, a custom that was employed everywhere in times before computers, and once again employed without them. A few computers worked on their own, but there was no system to connect them anymore, the internet was nonexistent.
"Are we close?" Wolfe asked suddenly, after they had been walking for about an hour in silence. Seras snapped her head back at him.
"Getting there, why? You itching for a fight?" She joked, knowing the answer already. Wolfe blew through his lips like a horse.
"Yeah right, cus that is what I love to do. I totally don't think one of these days I'm gonna get killed by these things…." He finished by mumbling to himself. Seras just chuckled, he was always a bit testy just before a fight. Just as she hopped down from a high rock a sudden howl cut through the noise of the night. Wolves no longer existed in the UK since they were hunted to extinction many, many years ago. So it must have been their target.
"Stay low!" Seras whispered her order. Wolfe obeyed without a word, they both ducked down closer to the floor, the grass was coarse on their flesh.
Seras flew out her senses to try and pick out their target. Wolfe tried to move to get a look when it appeared his master was not going to move at all. So she quickly reached out her hand and pulled him back down and held him there. His strength really was weak compared to hers as she hardly had to put any effort into stopping him. Wolfe just watched his master then, as her concentration was restored and she was scanning the area once more. There appeared to be nothing around… then there! A few miles ahead still, the howl sounded closer but Seras shrugged. Maybe she just thought it was closer. She let her third eye take her on a journey across the wilderness, the grass and rocks passed her by in milliseconds. As if she was travelling quickly over the countryside. A deer ran across her view, a mouse ran into its burrow. Then her view was lifted high into the air, veering down Seras now saw where they were. A disused quarry was laid bare before her. A whole pack was down there, about seven of the furry monsters were littered around the quarry. Rocks were placed carefully in a circle, where two of the beasts were struggling to maul each other. An arena. A few more were stood around the two competitors. Snarling and howling at those inside.
Another two were a little ways off, one was on top of the other… urgh that was a sight she did not want in her memory. Two of the creatures were in mid coitus just off from the arena. As if it was totally normal.
'Uncivilised cretins.' Seras thought to herself. She smiled at Wolfe who was still obediently laying low. Gesturing with her head to follow she raised herself up onto her knees and then jogged onwards, keeping for form low and small. She made no sound as she crept across the landscape. Even though the quarry was still a few miles she was still unsure of that howl. It bothered her, worried that there may be closer werewolves that she had simply not been able to sense she stayed low.
Wolfe followed suit, but Seras' stomach started to knot each time Wolfe made a noise. Which was often, of course to any human he was silent as a mouse. To her he was louder then a clumsy dog with a bell on the collar. A rock kicked, knot, a stick broken, knot, the crunch of grass, knot. He was far too loud. The wolves would hear him coming at this rate. Seras risked looking back at him and bringing one finger to her lips. Shushing him. Wolfe simply looked back at her, confusion on his face. He had obviously thought he was being as silent as she was.
Seras ignored the look and carried on. Her eyes scanning the area, expecting an attack with all the noise he was making. Soon enough they arrived at the quarry, Seras looked over to see the same sight greet her as before. Fornication included. She sneered at the sight, luckily none of them had noticed the vampires so close to them. Seras had made sure they remained downwind. A werewolf's sense of smell was even greater then the vampire's. And if the wind changed for just a second they would have been found out. But that was not the case. Seras motioned for Wolfe to set up his sniper. Wolfe complied immediately. His case was laid out before him, the click of the case opening made Seras twitch and look back down at the wolves. Their hearing was also better then the vampire's. And she cursed the sniper kit for making such a loud noise. Once again they seemed oblivious to the danger. She decided she was done with such risks and took the kit from Wolfe, he was confused that she brushed him away and took his mission away from him. But she was done with all of his noise. She didn't miss the slight look of contempt from him as she pushed him aside. She ignored it. Right now was the mission.
Without a sound she assembled the sniper, as if she has done the operation a thousand times. She had in fact dampened the sound of the clicks and thuds of the rifle in her hands with her own powers. A feat Wolfe could not copy, so decided to do to for him. Wolfe took back the made rifle. Amazed that his master could assemble such gear. She thought that was understandable as he had never seen her with such a weapon. But he should not assume that just because she does not use that weapon, does not mean she does not know how to put it together or operate it.
With the weapon no longer in her hands the sound dampener was gone, she hoped he was done making all of his noise now.
Wolfe took back the weapon from his master, he was still unsure as to why she had taken it in the first place. He was as silent as her! He knew werewolves had better hearing then a vampire's, but if he didn't hear a sound? Then how was he to know? He huffed as he took back the weapon perhaps more forcefully then he meant. His master ignored him. When did she learn to put together a sniper anyway? He had never seen her use one in his life. Why would she? She was always on the front line, the very front line. In the middle of the enemy would be a more apt description. So what did she need a sniper for? He shook his head. He had to concentrate on the mission. There was a quarry before them, he could hear the loud snarls and howls of wolves, but could not see a thing. His night vision goggles were balanced on his head, he could not use them and the sniper scope. The sniper was night vision anyway, so Wolfe lowered his gaze to the rifle. Down below he saw the tell-tale bodies of six…no seven wolves. Two were so close it was hard to tell them apart. He couldn't tell what they were doing and he guessed he didn't really want to know.
Just as he got one of werewolves in his sight the night scope was suddenly pulled off the rifle. He followed it back to his master's hand.
'You don't need this.' She told him. 'Use your third eye, I have shown you many a time.' Wolfe looked back up to her.
'No you haven't master… you have told me many a time.' He was unsure if he should have said that, as a frown started on her face. He turned back to the dark quarry. He felt more then saw her glare at him. 'Please…give me it back. I'll…I'll train with you as soon as we get back…' the scope still did not materialise on the rifle. 'Master…what would Elena say?' That was low, and Wolfe knew it. He turned to his master just in time to see her angry look, and her eyes aglow with crimson. He didn't need any night vision to see that.
Seras was furious that he had used such a low blow. Getting her into trouble with her own master? It was a dirty tactic. She would have never dreamed of doing such a thing with Alucard. She was loyal to him…when she was a fledgling that is. Wolfe was loyal to her, to a certain extent. But Elena always took his side on his training and to become more like a vampire. And he was starting to become more and more rebellious. It was vile, her old master would have never let her get away with such a feat. She contemplated crushing the scope in her hands, it would have been so easy… then he would have finally learned to use his third eye. But a more disturbing thought came to mind. What if he really could not do it? What if he was nothing more then a failure? Swallowing the lump in her throat she pushed the scope back into the rifle. She did not want to see him fail. It would have been another win to her old master. She wanted to be a better teacher then he ever was, but she was failing miserably.
Seras was starting to feel hot under the collar so to speak. She no longer cared about the mission being done quickly, quietly and effectively. Hell no. She wanted a fight. Anything to focus her anger on. Even as Wolfe lined up his sights and his finger was pulling the trigger Seras pulled a grenade out from under her jacket. Glaring at her own fledgling one last time as she pulled the pin out of the life-snuffing metal.
"I see your pup is as much trouble as mine." A deep, growling voice sounded behind them. Wide-eyed the pair of vampires turned around. Just in time to see a giant of a werewolf. The voice was definitely female, deep and scratchy as it was.
"Holy hell!" Seras yelled out at the creature. How could such a beast have sneaked up on them? Even while she was arguing with her fledgling did Seras keep her senses out. Looking for any enemy that was too close. Suddenly she remembered the grenade! She threw it backwards into the air. The small metal object didn't have time to hit the ground as it blew in the air. Seras quickly dove over her vulnerable fledgling just in time, as silver pellets flew out in all directions. Yowls sounded out as the wolves below were hit first. Then Seras felt sharp pains in her back as the pellets burrowed into her own flesh. The silver burned her skin wherever they touched. She ground her teeth together at the burning sensation. Not pleasant.
Seras stood off her fledgling, even as the pain stemmed worse from her painful back. Wolfe was unhurt but was looking up in pure horror at the creature before them.
"Aww, how noble." The female werewolf spoke to them. Seras glared at the beast, it was unhurt from the silver. It was clearly in range, as Seras had been so wounded. But the silver appeared to have just bounced off her fur and fallen to the floor. The female werewolf oddly enough did not attack, even as she listened to the howls and yelps of the others in the quarry. This gave Seras the time she needed to push the silver out of her body, it was slow going as silver still caused her great pain and slowed her regeneration. Soon enough she heard the silver pellets hit the floor and felt better already as her back immediately knit itself back together and healed over. Even her clothes appeared as good as new. With this the beast nodded and began to shrink…no transform to that of a human female. The woman looked to be in her mid-thirties. But she was obviously older then that, perhaps even older then Seras herself. She could tell by the smell. While werewolves were not actually undead and so not immortal. They aged much slower then humans and could live for hundreds of years.
The woman wore a smile on her sharp triangle shaped face, her eyes were fierce. She was an Alpha among wolves. She bore long sleek black hair that trailed down to the floor, yet was in perfect condition. Her body was slender and somewhat pale, she wore a dark royal blue dress, hugging her curves and showing off her assets to the world. A pair of flashy matching blue high heels completed the ensemble. She looked so small and meek compared to the giant muscled werewolf of before. Seras knew it was just an illusion. This was but a mask of the real creature lying just under the skin.
"Bit chilly to be wearing such a getup isn't it?" Seras poked at the older werewolf. This only made the woman smile at her.
"Surely you haven't lost what it means to be a woman have you vampire?" Seras shrugged and smirked back at the woman. "Oh but where are my manners?" the woman bowed low to Seras in mock gesture of respect. "My name is Prue, it is nice to finally meet you… Seras."
Seras studied this werewolf, this Prue with great interest. While Seras was not one to shout out her name to the enemy, many of them knew of her and her name. So she was not surprised in the least that this one knew her. Prue gave her a smile of sweet poison as she raised herself from her bow. "Aren't you interested as to how I know of you, Seras?" She already knew how Prue knew her, why would she be interested?
"Not really. You probably learned of it from some vampire scum bag." Prue appeared taken aback in mock insult.
"You shouldn't call your old master a scum bag." Seras peered at her with a genuine smile and folded her arms.
"You saying you learned of me from my old master? I highly doubt that, he wouldn't let you share the same room with him. Let alone talk to you."
Wolfe listened to the two fem fatales as they battled out with words. He was crouched on the floor just away from them. The woman who had called herself Prue was not fazed by the silver grenade or his powerful master before her. However the proximity he was in, this close to the fearsome she-wolf did not sit well with him. At any point she could just jump close and swipe his throat out. Without trying to draw attention to himself he tried to shuffle further away. Until he heard them both talking about Seras' old master. That stopped him in his tracks. He could not imagine her as a fledgling, he just couldn't place her under the harsh gaze of another more powerful vampire. Suddenly he desired to know what that vampire was like. Was he part of the enemy army? Did she escape him and join Hellsing? If so when? What was he like? Was he a soft master? Or a harsh and cruel psychopath? So many questions left unanswered. He decided to listen in for more information.
"Oh I shared a room with him alright, it was more then that. I have shared his bed for many a night." Her voice rose in slight elation at the supposed memories. Wolfe narrowed his eyes at this information. Seras' old master with her? What would his own master think. He glanced up at Seras. But she never battered an eyelid. She did honestly not look fazed. That is however until he saw her fingers clench just a little bit more then they should have done on her arm. "Just recently he was telling me about his failure of a fledgling as he took me from behind. After tying me to his bed once again. Oh how his poor weak, defenceless fledgling was nothing but a slave to the whims of hellsing. How she is too weak to break her own b-…" She was suddenly cut off from her monologue to a disturbing laugh. Wolfe looked back over to his master to see her holding her sides as she laughed. Her eyes were closed as she cackled into the night. What on earth was so funny? Blood even started to leak from her eyes as she still carried on laughing. "What is so funny!?" Prue yelled angrily at Seras. Wolfe looked back to Prue. Her face was seething, she was obviously not fond of being laughed at.
Seras at first had forced a laugh to bluster Prue, but then she found that she was actually genuinely laughing at her! Her story was so ridiculous! Seras wiped a blood tear from her eye as she was starting to slow down with her laughing.
"Oh…just at your attempt to rile me up! It's so, so…funny!" With that Seras broke out into more laughter at Prue. Seras could just about hear Prue growling at her in-between her laughing. She opened her eyes to see the she-beast, to see her face was absolutely livid. Maybe some of what she said was truth, maybe it was all a lie. Either way Seras just outright laughing at her must have touched a nerve. Her face began to grow more feral in appearance. Fur sprouted as she began to turn. Good, she was done laughing. Even as the blood still stained her face she stopped laughing, leaving only a smile plastered onto her face.
"C'mon then!" Seras yelled at Prue. She curled her fingers into fists and motioned for Prue to attack her. Of course she obliged. With the full force of the giant elder werewolf as a howl broke through her lips, she straight up charged at Seras. As quick as lightning she made it over the gap between them, too quick even for Seras to react and she was shoved off the edge of the quarry. The giant furry beast trailing after her.
"Master!" Wolfe shouted at Seras as she tumbled down into the dark quarry. He heard them tussle with each other but could not hear them. A sudden growl broke his concentration. He froze, it was very close. Looking up he saw two of the werewolves that were once in the quarry close to him, another three on the other side. They were all bloody and full of silver. But they could still rip him apart. The wolves were no where near as big as their mistress. They were only the same size as Wolfe. However that did not detract from the fact that they were ferocious killers. Wolfe glanced about him, he was in trouble. And the only one who could save him was just pushed into the quarry…
Ok there we go for chapter 4. Again sorry been so long. Hope you all like and please read and review!
